I remember being fascinated when I found out that Edward Hicks painted seventy or so versions of The Peaceable Kingdom. This short book provides some painterly details about the works of art, discusses some differences in the various versions, and confirms what I suspected--that Hicks had a complicated relationship with peace, thus compelling him to focus on it--or the lack thereof--for the whole of his artistic career.
