A CLASS OF HER OWN by Janice Thompson Delightful, when a determined mother of two, goes back to college Problems arrive when her and her daughter wind up in the same class. Then a die hard bachelor, an their professor, who everyone says is tough. causes Laura to want to quit. She had a dream of getting her degree, when she had children, she stopped, is it to late now. An what about the 45 year professor, could he see something more in Laura. Readers will enjoy, as all of her books are good . Read this in The Heart of Autumn .collection".
I found the main male character through the beginning of the story to be self-centered and annoying. But as I read further, I found that he was not a practicing Christian. Then the early part of the book made more sense. It was a story of redemption and forgiveness for all the involved characters. The interactions of the characters became endearing.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and am going to read the series next. I highly recommend Janice Thompson and her novels. They storylines are great and the spiritual aspect is uplifting.
What a truly good book. I like how a widow with children returns to school to get a degree. The reaction of her teen age children is quite an eye opener. Well written. Highly recommend!
It is very hard for Laura to pick up the pieces of her life after the loss of her husband. She has a daughter and son that need her but there are days she can't seem to get motivated. I loved when Laura decided to go back to school to get her Associates degree. She finds it hard to work and take classes but her determination kept her going. I did find it very funny when she runs into someone she knows in her class. Would it be awkward to be in college and find yourself sitting next to one of your children? The tension between mother and daughter was written with great emotion and realism.
Andrew Doughtry is a great history professor with some emotional baggage of his own. Andrew and Laura seem to clash a lot but it makes for some funny moments. I loved their interaction and attraction that slowly develops between them. Laura is still trying to deal with the death of her husband. She is angry at God. Can she find her way back to God? Will she forgive her husband for leaving her?
I loved this story for several reasons. I loved how the characters struggled with their relationship with God and how the author gave them feelings of anger, hurt and unforgiveness. We all have times when we become angry with God . Some of us walk away and never try to reconcile with Him. We allow our pride to take over and our hearts to harden. The story is about starting over, learning to forgive and letting go of anger. I couldn't put this book down because it really spoke to me and showed me areas where I had not forgiven yet. I encourage everyone to pick up a copy of this wonderful story of starting over.
"He showed me that unforgiveness is like a prison. It holds us in its grip until we can't breathe."
I have no idea why I ordered this one from the library. Honestly, I don't. It showed up on my hold shelf, and I thought, "I *ORDERED* this???
Laura is a widow with two of the most obnoxious BRATS for children. She wants to go back to college (we're never told why - she has a good job at a bookstore, but I guess she wants money?). Her kids laugh in her face, and are just evil towards her the entire book. Needy, jealous, petty, and mean. Horrible teenagers.
Meanwhile, she meets this guy who asks about a history book she's carrying, and she admits that she's afraid of the class, because she heard the professor is really tough. Naturally the guy *IS* the professor, and from that deduces that she's a lazy bitch and deserves to be embarrassed, criticized in front of the class, and more.
The whole thing was just MISERABLE... fighting between family. Fighting between him and her. Just... not kewl.
I gave this books 4 stars. Because I feel now matter how bad the book is it should never get lower than 3 stars. Someone worked hard on that book. But with that being said this book was really cute, but it was a little slow at the beginning. I didn't really get into until like halfway through. But again the book is really cute.
A tender story which I loved. I could relate to Laura going back to school later in life. It is not easy. The way the story deals with grief and moving on was exactly right. I loved the inspirational theme and as always the way Janice weaves all the elements of the story together.
What a joy to read about a "coming of age" story where age is no matter. I could relate to the main character as a widow and everything she felt and went through. What a happy ending.
I wasn’t particularly delighted with the narrator, but I liked the book and laughed out loud a couple times! Their awkwardness was especially endearing!
