WHEN NO ONE CAN BE TRUSTED...
For five years, Hannah Stuart has taken refuge from the horrors of her past inside Kenninghall, the hundred-year-old Washington estate of her dear friend, Milo Biehle. But now, Milo has died, and in his will he has left the reclusive beauty everything, including possession of three mysterious letters that he warns her will change everything...

NO PLACE IS SAFE
For the letters are more than an inheritance; they are evidence of dark crimes--a tangled web of secrets and lies that the powerful would kill to protect. As Milo's long-lost relatives and business partners arrive at Kenninghall, Hannah can't be sure who can be trusted and who can't--especially when it comes to the rugged, intense Yates Lang, a man who seems to be hiding his own dark secrets. Now, with danger closing in, Hannah confronts the letters' shocking revelations of murder, sin, and depravity, each word a chilling proof that those we love best are sometimes far from innocent--they can be perfect evil...

I live on Vancouver Island in the moody, green, and rain-washed Pacific Northwest. So when I'm seriously story challenged (too often!) I often walk the beach and commune with the stunning and multi-talented Mother Nature. (Make that beg for inspiration!) If that doesn’t work, a few minutes thinking about the quirks and foibles of human nature usually does the trick.

I dislike cooking.
I dislike nosy people.
I dislike too many rainy days in a row.
I dislike snakes.

And the only word I hate is hate.

I love reading, writing, my sons, my sister, my twin granddaughters, my Rhodesian Ridgeback, Boon--and most of all my first and last husband, Tim.

You can follow me on Twitter, if that's something you tend to do. @EC_Sheedy I also mess around on Tumblr. That's here: http://ecsheedy.tumblr.com/

PERFECT EVIL is a notch above some other contemporary romantic suspense books I have read this year. Ms. Sheedy manages to take sex, lies and letters to another level. And let us just say that I probably would not have picked up the book if I had a more in-depth understanding of what it was about. The subject is outside my comfort zone.

That said, the author takes the touchy taboo subject of human trafficking and makes it hmmmm, less squeamish? Many of us including myself would like to ignore the fact that there are people in this world who deal in human slavery. Truly evil people. PERFECTly EVIL people.

At the opening, we learn that Hannah Stuart lost a husband and young son to a vicious murder five years before. She was 'adopted' by an older man who empathized with her plight. He is dying. Soon she finds out that Milo Biehle has willed her his estate along with some problems.

Several people enter her life at this time but who can she trust? What does her alienated stepdaughter Libby want? What is Morgan Greff looking for? And, lastly, why does the handsome, intense Yates Lang seem interested in her?

With the exception of a tiny secondary story about a lawyer that could have been easily deleted, the pace of the storyline moved quickly. The suspense was fairly good even though I figured out who was who before the author explained it. If nothing else I came away with a better awareness of the awful plight of many woman and children that are 'sold' to others. People without souls. Perfect Evil.

"It was too cruel, this life. First love, then mistakes and unthinkable losses, leaving nothing but broken souls adrift in a bleak and empty wake. Alone. Always alone." So many bones in the closet in this one. At first it was slow going just getting to know the key players but once the plot thickens, you can't stop. Turn after turn, I just couldn't believe where it was going and what was being revealed, layer by suspenseful layer. Hannah is a broken soul who found comfort in Milo after a tragic event in her past. They share an intense friendship but after he is gone, the horrible truth is unleashed for Hannah to rectify per his final wish from his deathbed. When Yates is given an interwoven case to untwist, that is where it all starts to come together and get interesting. Right off the bat he comes off as an angry SOB but as you get to know little parts of his life and he comes to Hannah's rescue, you can't help but fall for him too. Even though this was a little off the beaten path of my usual reads, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great blend of mystery, suspense and romance.

This book is what I call a "find." It's a page turner that never lags for one minute. It has just the right number of characters, not too many, not too few and it has surprise after surprise after surprise. If you like multi-dimensional characters and an endless number of twists and turns, I think you will love this book. Going looking for more from this author right now!

Perfect Evil by E. C. Sheedy

This was a good story.

The description of the book I am listing below is from the back jacket of the book. I'm adding it because I believe the one on the Goodreads page does not depict this story.

This book is romantic suspense at its best.

Reclusive Hannah Stuart, who has withdrawn from the world after a personal tragedy, inherits a fortune when her friend and protector, Milo dies.

Sly and evil, Morgan Greff needs the letters Milo wrote before his death and will stop at nothing to get them.

Hannah almost succumbs to his charms, when Yates Lang, womanizer and investigator shows up.

Despite the reluctance of both to enter into a serious relationship, they find they are falling in love.

Together they have to find a way to stop Greff.

I loved the romance scenes. This author is a master at them.

This sort of started slowly and seemed to improve as it went along. Hannah loses her best friend and it turns out he's left her 3 cryptic letters to open after he's gone........this then opens up a whole load of confusion within her life and it's pretty hard to know who she can or should trust.
There were a few jarring punctuation mistakes but nothing horrific.
I'd certainly read other books by her.

WASN'T A BAD BOOK BUT NOT TO GOOD FOR ME. I HATED THE HEROINE HANNAH SHE WAS SO WEAK HER CHARACTER JUST TURNED ME OFF. AROUND 90 SOMETHING PERCENT OF THE BOOK SHE SORTA STARTED TO GET SOME SENSE. THE STORYLINE WAS GREAT BUT HANNAH SPOILED THE BOOK FOR ME, I WANTED TO SLAP HER ALL THROUGH THE BOOK. THE ROMANCE SCENES WERE WELL DONE, I REALLY HATED ALL THE VILLIANS THEY WERE REALLY HORRIBILE.

This is an older book I have had sitting around for awhile and I must say I had no idea what I was missing. I was engaged with the characters from the start and really enjoyed the plot. I must say it is one of the better books I have read in awhile.

Just awesome. There was so much going on in this book that it was hard to keep track, but it made it go fast and be awesome. A few editing issues but nothing that took away from the story. The hot scenes were HOT.

Not a very good read. Hannah is way too clingy and dependent to really be a heroine. It takes her almost 3/4 of the book to finally get a backbone and the minute something goes wrong, she goes back to her old ways.

3.5 star - confused damsel in distress. It was interesting enough to keep your attention, but kind of predictable.
