Very informative, if a bit dry. Does a decent job of penciling in our canine companions throughout the course of human evolution and the development of civilization where before there was largely a blank space in my mind.

This book is a solid and extensive history of our closest, most beloved companions: dogs. From evolution, to our first contact, wars, religion and mythology (and so much more), it’s all there.

It took me forever to read this, since I only read bits and pieces in between other books, when I had nothing else to read. It went along very quickly while I was actually actively reading it. Can't say that all of the topics are relevant, anymore, since it was published in 1996. Some of it I've heard before, some of it deals with things we now know more about than we did back then. Either way, all of it is still interesting, though the beginning and ending perplexed me quite a bit.
