Before the outbreak, Sahara was a high school teacher living alone in a small Alabama town. She saw her life as nothing more than endless days of teaching children Shakespeare and nights reading paranormal romances. She was happy with her life, as quiet and mundane as it was.
After the outbreak, Sahara becomes a warrior traveling across the country in search of sanctuary. She spends her days and nights killing zombies, searching for food, trying to maintain her sanity, and if Daniel has his say, finding love.
How will Sahara help those who are left find safety and stability in a world full of nightmares? Will she stop resisting the man she loves and open her heart, knowing that he may not live through the next second let alone the next year? Join Sahara and her people in a fight against creatures set out to devour them and the unknown threat controlling them to find out.

When the zombie virus went wild, no one knew, was it a government experiment gone horribly wrong, a terrorist’s chemical attack? Aliens? All the few remaining survivors knew were that they were Resistant and humanity is now mere food for the infected. Citizens were warned to hunker down, make a fortress of their homes and to wait for rescue, but who was left to rescue them? Take a different look at the zombie apocalypse through the eyes of the female heroine, Sahara as she lives and details her life after the world as she knew it went mad. Welcome to Jennifer Lynn Reynold’s riveting tale of death, destruction, survival and hope for a new future through love. Welcome to Resistant an apocalyptic romantic tale.
Page one, meet Sahara, whose life is less than thrilling or excitement filled, and that is exactly how she liked it, even after the zombies overtook the streets, she remained locked away in the relative safety of her home. Then they came, a military type unit, taking over her home, and settling in to wage war and find survivors from their newly commandeered command post. But first, came the humiliating examination of her body, the testing of her blood and the final okay that she held an antibody that made her resistant. Her biggest thorn in her side was the devastatingly handsome Daniel, who confused her like no one else, playing ally one minute, drill sergeant the next and ice-cold robot after that.
Times change, people change and Sahara has become a warrior who stands side by side with Daniel, who knows he will do anything to protect this incredible woman. She has his heart, he has hers, but, of course, survival comes first and the game of aggravate, retreat, push and pull begins as their battle of wills becomes the foundation for so much more. Is it true? Where there is love there is hope for a better future?
I am giving a standing ovation to one of the best zombie romances I have ever read to Jennifer Lynn Reynolds! What a combination of the gross, the dangerous and the sigh-worthy heat as this story unfolds. I loved Sahara, a self-admitted couch potato who remade herself into a true survivor, a true warrior. Daniel, totally an alpha hero with a heart, and a lot of patience! Romance lovers, take a walk on the dark side of fantasy, it is completely worth the danger. Zombie lovers, there is enough hardcore action and heroics to satisfy your need for blood and guts. Ms. Reynolds has combined two of my favorite genres and come up with a real gem! Her work is well-written, fast-paced when necessary and gently engaging when not. The romantic heat comes slowly, and oh, the many interruptions get humorous. A great read with wonderful dialogue, some snark and attitude and some well-defined characters! Highly recommended.

My Thoughts - Story I often wonder why I keep going back to this genre and I think I figured it out. There is action, there is a story that keeps unfolding. Yes, the author may spend a lot of time with feelings and some erotic moments, but it’s not all consuming throughout the book. Like, I’ve tried to watch porno’s in the past…and my partner would get pissed at me cause I would sit and watch the whole thing…why? Cause I was waiting for a story to unfold.
That is why I keep coming back to this genre.
And again, I wasn’t disappointed in a jam packed book full of death, life, love and action. But just one little peeve I had about this book…I was getting frustrated at Sahara and Daniel with their ignorance how the other felt.
Re-Cap Sahara is a boring high school student who is plain and a bit overweight – well, that is until the government makes a mistake and zombies arise.
Locked in her house, safe from the outbreak, Sahara’s quiet life is suddenly trashed when military men take over her house. Finding out that she is immune, these military men want Sahara to travel with them to laboratories that will test her blood and try to find a cure.
Stuck with Daniel, who Sahara finds herself attracted to, they meet obstacles and find love on the road.

Full review to follow! For now, this book was my first post-apocalyptic book and I LOVED it! I had no idea zombies could be this intriguing! (Okay, it wasn't the zombies so much as it was Sahara and Daniel!!). I'll post more later on why this book had my full attention and why I think everyone needs to read it!
****A few little spoilers****
Okay, so update! This was my first zombie book (like I said). The beginning had my stomach turning! Like when the dad was snacking on his child! OMG!! But I couldn't stop reading! It was SO GOOD!
The zombies start attacking and Sahara is holed up in her home for a month by herself. (I probably wouldn't have made it that long, I would've been hysterical!). Sahara is a STRONG woman who takes care of it all by herself!
After about a month an "army" of people show up, test her for immunity to the virus and she is basically forced to go along with them!
This whole story, I honestly couldn't stop reading. I expected to like it, because I've read and enjoyed Jennifer's work. I didn't expect to be quite so enthralled and care so much about the characters!
As the story progresses, so do the characters and their interactions. I won't ruin too much, because you definitely need to read this yourself! You will NOT be disappointed!! I promise!! THE ENDING, OMG, the ending! It's amazing!! I LOVE Daniel and Sahara!! (Charles too!!) Perfect ending to my first zombie book! Thank you, Jennifer!!
I was entranced with this novel. There a many different takes on what happens when there is a zombie outbreak and this was no different. I thought the way everything came about was interesting and the characters in the story were very relate-able. This can be felt with Sahara our heroine in the story- you can feel her unsureness of her own-self at times and there were a few moments when I wanted to smack some sense into her but having dealt with my own self esteem issues i could relate to how she was feeling. There were some moments when i was not exactly sure what was happening with the zombies as they were acting in a strange manner part way through the story and that made me wonder. I also found some very steamy moments between the pages, but that came a bit later into the story. Over all i think it was a great read that moved at a good pace and brought elements to the ZA type stories that I had not seen before and that made the story even better. I was sad to see it end as I felt there could have been more to the story but that's just my opinion and wanting lol I was given an arc copy in exchange for an honest review
The world knew the zombie outbreak was coming and most fortified their home to hopefully keep the zombies out as walls and chain fences went up around homes. The thing they weren’t sure about is where the virus came from. Was the virus released on the population by the government? Was it an accident? Was it an experiment gone horribly wrong? Or could it have been aliens?
I liked how realistic Jennifer made the virus seem. I liked how the characters knew how to prepare for the outbreak from watching TV shows like The Walking Dead or watching George A. Romero’s movies like Night of the Living Dead or even the Return of the Living Dead movies. Most were not preppers they were just movie buffs or zombie buffs and some even read a horror book or two with zombies.
Our main character Sahara lived alone and was a high school teacher. She lived what she would probably call a plain ordinary life. She went to school to teach then she came home and sat in front of the TV probably until it was time to get up and start everything all over again. Sahara admitted to herself that she was just a couch potato so after the zombies came she was ok with being alone.
Then one day the military people showed up on her doorstep looking for survivors. Sahara gave them the use of her home as a base camp sort of thingy as they looked for other survivors in her neighborhood. They also checked her out for bites and tested her to see if she was immune to the virus.
When the group was through checking out the neighborhood they ask Sahara to go with them to their base camp instead of staying there alone. Sahara takes them up on their offer to go with them.
At his new place Sahara was taught how to fight zombies and she also went out with Daniel, Charles and others on missions looking for supplies and finding other survivors along the way.
There was this one hot dude in the group that Sahara was attracted to but she was too shy to do anything about it but I think this guy Daniel may have been too as it took them awhile to get to know each other and for the first one to make a move but when that first move was made sparks flew and often.
I have read a lot of zombie and apocalyptic books not to mention all the movies and TV shows I’ve seen but I don’t believe that I have ever came across anything close to Resistant. The world that was created for Resistant and the characters were all so realistic and convincing to the point where you might be able to believe that a zombie virus outbreak could actually happen.
My favorite TV show just happens to be The Walking Dead so I would so very much love to see the Resistant on the big screen as a movie or better yet as a TV show as a TV shows would last longer. When you are reading Resistant you can see it playing out in your head like a movie.
Resistant is a fast read and will draw you in from the first page and for a few hours you will be lost in this world not knowing what is going on around you until you have read that last page. Oh and that last page was so wonderful leaving you wanting more from this world and characters.
I so highly recommend Resistant to all fans of zombies, a virus outbreak, The Walking Dead, Night of the Living Dead and so much more. Do yourself a favor one click your copy of Resistant today and enter the zombie apocalypse for a horrifying ride.
Disclaimer: I received an ARC from Ms. Jennifer Reynolds in exchange for an honest review.
I seriously have no idea how to start my review for Resistant. Awesome, fantastic, tremendous, awe-inspiring, astounding, perfect, omygod-its-freaking-awesomely good, or im-so-gonna-marry-this-book-right-now-if-i-can splendid, are not enough.
It’s heart stopping and ‘watch your back there’s a jump scare in between those lines’, good.
This is the first zombie apocalypse book that I have ever read and why on Earth did I only start reading in this genre now? I like watching zombie movies, but I love zombie movies that have sense, not just pure jump scare and non-sense running. I liked Resistance because it’s like World War Z. It has a resolution. At the end of the book, there’s hope. There’s tomorrow. And that’s what made this story awesome.
I fell in love with Sahara the moment she appeared on the book. She’s not perfect; she doesn’t have perfect blonde hair and perfect toned body. She is your average teacher. Ms. Reynolds’ books will never give you perfect heroines, you’ll surely relate to them. That’s one thing to love about this author. Sahara’s scared, but she wants to live. I like how she uses her brain to survive. I could totally see myself in her though she is ten times braver than me. I admire her so much I was so engrossed in the book because of her.
I loved all the characters too and I loved it more that Ms. Reynolds resisted the urge to kill off characters in this kind of books. A lot of authors find the kicks in killing characters off their books. So all through out the book I was keeping an eye out to unnecessary killings.
The plot is so good I almost didn’t want it to end. I want to see more how they built a life. Have they completely gotten rid off the virus? There are absolutely no dull moments in this book. Every turn is action packed. There’s sex. There’s love. There’s friendship. It’s jam-packed! This is worth your money and time. Well, Ms. Reynolds’ books always are worth of our investment.
I could go on and on about this book and it’s still not enough. Best way to go about this is to grab your copy and read it. Be lost in it and get back to me and tell me I’m wrong. I dare you. *winks*
And to you, Ms. Jennifer Reynolds, I just want to remind you how amazing you are. You are such an inspiration! Thanks for giving me the chance to read Resistant!
I was given an audio copy in exchange for a honest review.
First of all I have to say that I'm in love with Sahara. I found her to be an amazing point of view. She captivated with her personality from the beginning and I found myself not being able to stop. The story line flowed nicely and everything kept up with a fast pace. My favorite part was near the beginning when they woke her up and she was throwing shade left and right while not wearing pants. That is the moment when I knew I found my heroine. I loved the world that Reynolds built. It was a different take on the zombie outbreak and I really enjoyed it. It has qualities that you are familiar with but are different as well. I was overall extremely impressed and look forward to reading more from this author since this is the first work I have read from her. I would recommend to this to my zombie and dystopian loving friends.
Now let's talk about the narrator. The narrator did such a fantastic job telling Sahara's story. I was blown away with how well she captured the emotions behind each word. I know I'm going to be a huge fan of the narrator and will follow their career. I really enjoyed all aspects of this novel.
I'm discovering I like the horror genre, more than I thought I did! This is my second Jennifer Lynne Reynolds book. Her handling of the zombie subgenera is superb. She really seems to know what she's talking about, despite the fact that zombies aren't real. (Right? Right?!) There are some very steamy sex scenes, which really isn't my thing, but they didn't take over the story, so I didn't really mind. I only wish there was a bit more dialog, a little more showing & less telling. All in all, I really enjoyed it!
I very much enjoyed this book. Though at times, I wanted to smack the main character over the head for lack of communication, as a whole, I was engrossed throughout. I liked Sahara's strength and the protectiveness of Daniel towards her, even while he acknowledged her abilities. While I was frustrated at times at Sahara's obliviousness to Daniel's feelings, I was happy when they finally got together. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable book. I look forward to reading more by Jennifer Reynolds.
Resistant is the first romance novel I have read. Jennifer did a good job of taking very average people and thrusting them in an extraordinary situation — the zombie apocalypse. I learned much seeing this world from a woman's point of view. The love story between Sahara and Daniel did get frustrating at times, but isn't that the way of many real world relationships. Walmart? Really? How North Alabama is that? Epicenter of the universe, right? Jennifer added low key humor throughout the story, and I'm not sure how she does it. However, she does it well.
I really enjoyed this one. I only wished that Daniel had a POV would have love to know what went through his mind! But overall the story was well paced the characters where great!
Resistant is a post-apocalyptic zombie novel by Jennifer Reynolds. Sahara was a normal high school teacher in a small town. One day, she realized she had begun to prepare for a zombie apocalypse when she subconsciously starting sensing an uptick in zombie fascination. And one day the zombie apocalypse arrived at her hometown. After weeks of surviving, a group of armed people enter her barricaded home, discover that she is resistant to the zombie virus, and adopt her into their group. As Sahara morphs from a high school teacher into a zombie fighting warrior, she also finds love in their group. As they travel, trying to find out how the government is dealing with a problem, they must deal with the trials of living in their new reality full of zombies and crime. Meanwhile, Sahara must come to terms with and learn how to define her relationship with her potential newfound love.
This was an odd novel in that it tied together the zombie apocalypse story with romance. And the zombies didn’t seem like they were really the main focal point of the story. But rather, zombies were just the overall driving motivation for what the group was doing. But the real story ended up being more about people, good and bad. The central driving event in the novel was actually a crime conducted by human beings rather than the zombies. I liked the premise, with a strong female protagonist learning how to become a leader. However, her interactions with other women and the men in her life seemed fictionalized and this made it hard to believe and easy to become exasperated with Sahara. I would have liked to learn more about what is happening on a global scale.
The narration by Margi Stephens was well done. She did a good job of capturing Sahara’s exasperating voice, especially. The production quality was good and I would recommend this story to anyone who likes romance novels set in unique environments.
This apocalypse story about a teacher who survives a “virus” then must learn to live afterwards with the living dead trying to eat them alive. When Zagar’s meets Daniel she is attracted to him but conscious of his good looks and fighting skills puts him In the friendship and comrade zone. As time passes they finds others and grow close trumping not to fall to the horror of their lives in a zombie world.
Loved this book! I really think timing was perfect as it could have been about the pandemic we are living through now. I highly recommend you grab a copy and read it now!
I enjoyed listening to this story. Jennifer Reynolds builds character using the feelings and inner workings of the human mind. She interprets actions with what a character is feeling. Not many authors do that and she does it well.
The story takes place over a number of years. In the beginning people are aware that a zombie apocalypse could be somewhere in the futures horizon. Some people take this more seriously than others. Either way when it happens some precautions have been put into place. It turns out there is a small population who are resistant to the virus. No one really knows how the virus started but they have ideas that somehow the military is involved.
Sahara, the leading lady is an ordinary school teacher who lives a simple solitude life. Which becomes even more lonely after the virus spreads and she is barricaded inside her house alone. It isn't until a group of survivors come beating on her door that she realizes how lonely she's been.
Without giving away more of the story I recommend this book completely. It's entertaining, fun and a bit realistic.
