Evolved Publishing presents a short story from the multiple award-winning author of White Chalk and The Sugar House Novellas. This story, a prequel to the novel Two Moons of Sera, is the perfect quick break from your hectic day at less than 14,800 words.
Science Fiction, Romantic Fantasy, Short Story
Nilafay spends her time beneath the ocean's surface either swimming in the depths or in the artificial atmosphere of the Domed City. Despite the rules of her amphibian race, she longs to explore the world above. On the day before her wedding to the Sualwet man of her dreams, Nilafay finally wanders too far and learns just what the others had been warning her about.
Pavarti K Tyler is an artist, wife, mother and number cruncher. She graduated Smith College in 1999 with a degree in Theatre. After graduation, she moved to New York, where she worked as a Dramaturge, Assistant Director and Production Manager on productions both on and off Broadway. Later, Pavarti went to work in the finance industry several international law firms. She now lives with her husband, two daughters and one very large, very terrible dog. She keeps busy working with fabulous authors as the Director of Marketing at Novel Publicity and penning her next novel.
In some ways I found parts of this book a little traumatic, but that said, all in all it was a good story with well developed and interesting central characters. In fact it must be quite good as I have already looked at getting the next book in the series. It just depends when I can fit it in, to an already full year. it is certainly worth a read in my view.
Every now and then I want to escape into a fantasy world, and Pavarti K. Tyler’s Two Moons of Sera was exactly the sort of read I would choose. With great world building and a wonderful story, Sera came to life and stayed with me for long after the book was closed. The only thing missing was Sera’s mother’s story: how did Nilafay come to the island, and just why did she not contact her own family and kind?
In this novella, Tyler expands on the world and story of Nilafay: bringing us her story and explaining just why she is always so concerned for Sera. From her early flirtations with the dangers outside the Domed City, and her joy in floating in the sun to the scandal and terror when she is kidnapped and experimented on by a race determined to rule over and discover the secrets the Sualwet keep, this was a non-stop ride.
Tyler’s ability to create descriptive language that brings readers into the world is some of the best I have read: you understand the character through their place and surroundings in ways that are unexpected and wholly unique. Answering questions about the Sualwet and the conflict while whetting the appetite for more, this short story is a wonderful addition to the Two Moons of Sera world.
I purchased a copy of the title for my own personal library. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
Moon Dust is the spin-off of Two Moons of Sera as checked it up after finishing MD. I liked it, the whole thing. Nila's dream and how everything went wrong when she looked forward to all the right thing. Then how after what she endured she returned home and how she was treated by the people she thought were home and how again she escaped. I'm just confused about my feelings for the book, not about the book as I want to read Two Moons of Sera I'm intrigued to know what must happens in the future, want to start reading TMS! And yes the end, I get the title now, Beautiful. This is the first book I've read of Pavarti K. Tyler and would like continue. A good read and a nice way to get into the book series.
I listened to this immediately following Two Moons of Sera. I didn't want the magic to end! This short book provides the back story to Serafay's existence, and is another few hours of the genius that the combination of PK Tyler and Karen Rose Richter provides. The story is constructed with immaculate attention to detail and exquisite employment of language. Every word is placed with infinitesimal care to provide the reader/listener with maximum pleasure. These meticulously positioned words are then given the greatest possible impact through the application of Karen Rose Richter's voice. Once again, the words transform into a musically uplifting sequence. PK Tyler's words and Karen Rose Richter's narration marry to form a harmonious, magnificent story that is a pleasure to hear. Another unparalleled fantasy audio book that I am thrilled to highly recommend.
Sometimes it works out for the better when you first discover a new book series that already has a couple books available to read right away. It cuts down on all the angst of waiting for the next book. Such is the case with a series that I only discovered yesterday. The series I am talking about is the TWO MOONS OF SERA Series. To add to the excitement of discovering an talented author that I had not known about, if you visit her website and sign up for her newsletter, she will send a free copy of the prequel to the series: MOON DUST.
MOON DUST introduces readers to an entirely new world which is populated by two vastly different races.
The main character of this story is Nilafay. She is a Sualwet. The Sulawets live beneath the ocean, most of them residing in the Domed City. They have completely hairless bodies and webbed toes (both of which ensure that they are excellent and elegant swimmers.) They have a regulated society that is despotic and there are very clear class divisions.
The other race that inhabits this amazing world are the Erdlanders. This race is the one that seems to most closely resemble humans. They live on the land and have hair on their heads and most of the men have beards. Because the story mostly focuses on Nilafay, we do not learn as muçh about the Erdlanders as we do about the Sualwet.
As seems to happen when two very different races do not attempt to understand each other, they go to war. In fact, the war has been going on for a long time.
On the morning of her much anticipated wedding, Nilafay makes a decision that will not only change her life, but also the lives of both species. Little does she know that her impulsive decision will have consequences far beyond what she could ever have imagined.
I was fascinated by the world that P.K. Tyler has created. She has done a great job of world building and in generating interest in the MOON OF SERA series. I plan to read more and I cannot imagine that anyone reading it would not want to read on and find out what happens next.
This novella is well written with vivid characters and a well thought out plot. I rate it as 4 out of 5 Stars
I received this Novella for an honest review. This is actually a prequel to Two Moons of Sera, in this short story you get a look into the world of the Sualwet. On the eve of her marriage to the man she loves Nilafay goes to shore to explore just once before she settles into her new life. Unfortunately she wanders too far and find out just how true the warnings she's received about about the Erdlanders may very well be true. I very much enjoyed this story, I actually read it before reading Two Moons of Sera and if you haven't read Two Moons yet I would recommend the same as this is story tells you how Serafay came to be. Nila's strength and her determination to protect her child are the two things that endeared her to me. I loved the authors ability to pull you into a whole new world at times I almost felt like I was swimming in the sea with Nila. After reading this I had to immediately start on the next book so I could dig more into their world and find out what their future held. To me this is not a standalone as it's the start of the story but it's not a cliffhanger.
So many short stories leave me feeling unsatisfied because there just isn't a lot of space to get to know the characters and weave an interesting plot at the same time. As I was reading this, I became immersed in the story but I was doubtful that the author would be able to produce a satisfactory ending in the time that was left. I was wrong. The ending came at the perfect moment and did not disappoint. The narrator did a good job on both the female and male voices, with the exception of Sera. Sera sounded strangely out of place, almost like a cartoon character. But I like a female narrator who can voice men without sounding ridiculous (and vice versa) and this one can. I enjoyed this and will probably look for some of the longer books by the same author. This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of AudiobookBoom dot com.
It's very interesting. I loved the story. It's the kind of story which will touch your heart and you won't be able to forget it in a hurry. It's novella so I wasn't expecting this much emotions, in this short book the author has said a lot. It's sad and happy both at the same time. After I closed the book it took me a while to decide how I feel about it, which is not an easy feat for an author. But P. K. Tyler has managed to do that. The story is about a fantasy world. Nilafay lives in Doomed City under the ocean but she loves to explore the world above water. She is curious about other creatures who live above sea. But due to the war they are not allowed to leave the ocean. Nilafay ventures to far from home, the result isn't what she has hoped for.... It's an interesting & entertaining read. I quite enjoyed it. P.S. I'd like to thank the author for providing a review copy of this book.
The story concerns a female sort-of mermaid (the biology gets a little mixed up in the story) and how she is supposed to marry another sort-of-mermaid.
There is a war going on between those who dwell on the land and those who live in the sea. (Nothing is said about the cause of the war or the types of weapons used.) Nilafay, the woman, is captured by some guys that live on the land and she ends up doing something with one of them that causes her major problems later.
The parts about the mermaid society reveal a very class-oriented situation, very discriminatory and very intolerant.
It's okay as an introduction into the series but as it stands leaves many, many questions unanswered.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I am thoroughly impressed. This is a lovely short story that involves love and pain spanning different species. From a deep pain comes deep joy. The world that this is written in is so descriptive and visual, you can see every aspect of it. I loved the main charachter in this and how she had the courage to do what she believed was right.
I would love to read more from this author, very impressed
Fantasy isn't one of my favorite genre's but this was a short, sweet and fun story to read. The descriptive writing was amazing. I felt like I was seeing everything as it was happening. I felt like I could feel what was going on, the sea, the water, the sand, the people everything. It was a fun, easy read. I enjoyed how not everything was easy for her.. how things were bad.. and things were good.. Overall this was a very enjoyable story and I am excited to see what happenes next.
PK Tyler's writing is very emotive, her descriptive words flow easily like the water in the story. The reader is right there, feeling every gentle breeze. The storyline pulls you in, to the point where nothing else matters. Excellent and beautiful from a very talented author.
This was an interesting story about a naive young sualwet ocean dweller.Nilafay is kidnapped and endures mistreatment by the sualwets enemies. She struggles to endure and make a life for herself.I really didn't like how naive Nilafay was.The narrator used a whiney voice to portray her which I found incredibly irritating.I received an audiobook from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Moon Dust is part of the Two Moon of Sera series by Pavarti K. Tyler. It´s a59 pages short story about Nilafay and why she is so concerned for her Sera. When you like Science Fiction and Romance Fantasy yore gonna love this short story. Thank you P.K. Tyler
Nilafey usually swims under the ocean and she is intended to marry. She wants to have an opportunity to see what's going on up above, even with being warned. Of course she finds out the hard way, that the rumours are true. Beautiful story, loved it
Good story! It does just what a short story in a series should do, makes you want to read more. Nice character development, interesting storyline. I will read more by this author!
I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review. This was a quick read. I really enjoyed the story and the various characters. I definitely recommend.
