I'm a wife, mom, waitress, book nerd, Chapstick addict, and a really bad driver who still believes in happy endings and can't walk in high heels. Writing is what I do when I'm avoiding other things...like cleaning.

I once had big dreams of being a Hollywood screenwriter.

But then I met a boy and got distracted.

Three years later we met another boy, this one even cuter.

The three of us are now living happily ever after in the Detroit area. The Good Life is my first novel. And our house is kind of a mess :)

Such a sweet and endearing, great little second chance romance! Cora and Ben shared one memorable moment back in high school, one that Cora would like nothing more than to recreate with grown-up, single-dad Ben, now that he's back in the picture. Afraid that he doesn't remember her she just continues to pine from afar...until one Halloween night when everything changes!

Ben is a doll! I love that he's such a caring and doting dad to Olive, and has a good relationship with his ex-wife. Although Cora thinks he doesn't remember her, that's one night he hasn't been able to forget either. And he's just been biding his time, waiting for the perfect moment to show Cora how much he really cares.

Even though this entire story takes place during the span of one day there's a lot packed into that day! We get to see what's happening in both Cora and Ben's heads as the day goes on, and I think that helped to really flesh out this story. I found myself really invested in these 2, 4 actually with their girls included, and just loved the thought of them having a happy little family!

What a seasonal delight!

I bought this book when it was released but then life happens. When I was looking for a book for a Trick or Treat Mini Challenge I'm doing, this book popped up in my list. It was a sweet and a little sexy short story that fit the Halloween Theme perfectly. If you root for the underdog and hate the "mean girls" this book is for you!

An adorable novella about a second chance romance between two people who knew one another in high school and how they reconnect as adults near Halloween. A perfect treat for October.

It was cute. Some sexy moments but no actual sexy time. Some things didn’t make a ton of sense. But it was still pretty cute.

A Perfect Halloween Romance about the Girl and Guy Next Door

Lights Out by Jodie Beau is the perfect blend of a spicy and sweet, character-driven romance. Jodie takes the both the girl and guy next door and creates such an endearing romance (with a little Halloween flare) – one to which we all can relate.

Cora and Ben are both single parents who live close to one another and meet up every Friday to walk their six-year-old girls together to school. Ben struggles with wondering if it’s the right time to ask Cora out while Cora dodges the grown up “mean girls” at the school who judge other moms. What the reader finds out, though, is that both Cora and Ben have met before – one night in high school when the lights were out at a party.

Jodie does a great job at taking every day, relatable characters and putting them in positions we all find ourselves. Readers get dual POVs from both Cora and Ben, so you get insight into their thoughts, insecurities and fantasies. The author does a great job describing the main characters in such a short read. We get a little bit of their past, present and future. This short story mainly takes place in one day on Halloween, but the author does such a great job with character and plot description that I was fully invested in their happiness. What great talent!

Lights Out was the perfect fall afternoon read. Readers get a full, standalone story with humor, relatable situations and a little Halloween fun. Definitely pick this one up!

2'5 stars

This is a Halloween romance novella that is actually solid. It follows two single parents who see each other every Friday morning when they are dropping off their kids on school and decide to hang out on Halloween night.

2'5 stars is a middle of the road book for me so not bad. I would recommend picking it up if you're feeling a Halloween story to have fun with. It was entertaining, really short and with a very sweet romance. It just didn't do anything special and there was unnecessary girl hate that I didn't appreciate.
