Eines immerhin steht fest: Der Baron von Münchhausen hat wirklich und wahrhaftig gelebt. Aber ob er seine berühmten Abenteuer auch so erlebt hat, wie sie von ihm in seinen erstaunlichen Geschichten erzählt werden, ist mehr als fraglich. Wann immer er von seinen Reisen berichtete oder von den Kriegen, an denen er teilgenommen hat, tischte Münchhausen Lügen auf, dass sich die Balken bogen. Durch Lügen kann man also berühmt werden? Na klar! Aber nur, wenn man so lügen kann wie der Baron von Münchhausen. Und wenn man so gut erzählen kann wie Erich Kästner, der Münchhausens Lügengeschichten in diesem Buch für Kinder nacherzählt.

Erich Kästner (1899–1974) was a German author, poet, screenwriter and satirist, known for his humorous, socially astute poetry and children's literature.
A stout pacifist and democrat, he was expelled from the national writers' guild during the Nazi era, with many of his books being burned in public. Today, he is widely regarded as one of Germany's most prolific and beloved children's book authors.

I'm not kidding when I say I read Erich Kästners books religiously as a kid.
I will reread this one as soon as I'm done with Wuthering Heights
