Warriors of the Lathar #2

Claiming Her Alien Warrior

Rate this book
In a race against the clock, she must betray his trust to achieve her mission… But fooling a Latharian warrior comes with a price.

A guest of the Lathar, Jane Allen hasn’t forgotten what she is: a hard as nails marine major. Tasked with finding a way to beat the technologically advanced, biologically superior warrior race, she needs to find answers for her superiors… before they arm the nukes and give the Lathar an excuse for war. Because the little green men aren’t so little. Or green… they’re large, ripped, scarily-attractive alpha male warriors hot enough to make any red-blooded woman weak at the knees. Especially one particular warrior with black hair and a sexy growl she can’t resist…

She’s his… she just doesn’t know it yet.

Karryl K’Vass has wanted the little human warrioress, Jane, from the moment he saw her. But she’s a tricky one, evading his claim even though he knows she desires him. His campaign for her heart is stalled when duty calls him away; a mission into a dangerous part of space to gather intelligence on the Empire’s enemies. A beautiful stowaway is the last thing he needs, even if she does make his body burn. He’ll finish his mission and get her back to the safety of Lathar Prime…

But no plan survives contact with the enemy. Reptilian mercenaries, a crash landing, and a case of amnesia later and they land in the clutches of their enemies who think it would be better if Karryl took a long walk out of a short airlock…

description They were less little green men and more large, ripped, scarily-attractive alpha male warriors hot enough to make any red-blooded woman weak at the knees.”

Why yes, I am partial to an alien and particular big hulking brutes who are more akin to Thor than Marvin. And when you combine said brute with a stubborn kick-arse woman, then you know you’re in for some explosive action. Shall definitely be checking out more from Mina Carter.

Claiming Her Alien Warrior is book two in the Warriors of the Lathar series by Mina Carter. Theirs action, danger, suspense, and a little memory loss.

Both Jane and Karryl are stubborn warriors. I enjoyed their romance. Jane is an older heroine in her 40’s. I liked having a more mature/worldly women in this installment. Karryl has to work hard to dig into Janes defenses and get her to let him in and see that they are meant for each other. I liked his determination and the fight Jane put up. Their romance was fiery.

The secondary characters are interesting. We keep meeting new Lathar warriors. Not all of them are nice and honorable, but the same can be said for the human race too.

The only thing I did’t care for is that we don’t get a closer/resolution on Earth and Jane spying for Earth. That was the whole start of the story, then it went a different direction and never finished that plot line.

Claiming Her Alien Warrior was a thrilling and exciting read. I’m looking forward to continuing the series.

“4,5 badass female warrior”- stars.

Funny, badass, entertaining and captivating writing.

I really liked Jane.
She was such a strong character, and her alien hunk?

Super stubborn and totally alpha male material!
Such fun to read about.
The storyline was good, not overly exciting, but when you mix such two stubborn main characters in with the story, you sure are in for a ride.

This book was so boring, I had to stop reading it at 30%. I just couldn't make myself care about the characters. The chemistry was non-existent, the background about the planets/technology/etc. were so poorly explained, I couldn't picture myself in the scenes.

The heroine, Jane, is freaking 43 years old! WTF! No, I don't have a problem with autumn romances, or whatever, but it's just weird to think about. The hero ages much slower, which means that by the time they've been together 15 years, she'll be able to buy dinner with them using her senior discount! I am NOT into cougar stories.

Poorly written, boring, and the plot was developing slowly and laboriously. No thanks.

Kaaryl K Vass a Latharian Warrior has wanted to mate with Major Jane Allen since his people captured the human women from the space station. Jane refused his attempts to mate with her. At times she downright embarrassed him in front of the other warriors. I like strong women who can defend themselves, but Jane was just "To Hard". She acted more Manly then Womanly. There is nothing feminine about her not even her looks. The story lost it romantic appeal and just didn't like Jane. I would have liked less action fighting scenes and more romance.

3+ stars. Not as good as the first one, partly because it was shorter, compounded by additional action scenes crammed into too few pages.

The writing is better than the first one, and the women still kick ass, but too many trope-challenges here.

I'll read the next one cuz they're fun.

Chase them at arm’s reach until they catch you...

Good lord, I really love SyFy Romance. Who can resist bigger than life, technologically advanced aliens with a barbarian warrior superiority? Not me. Karryl K’Vass is the epitome of just such. He’s big and absolutely swoon-worthy even for a no nonsense, kick ass marine officer. Major Jane Allen has been doing everything she can to avoid falling for the big brute. Her only saving grace from being claimed is her pending divorce. If it weren’t for the fact that she hasn’t signed the papers yet, the claiming would be a done deal. To top that off her damned superiors have ordered her to spy on the aliens. Jane’s no spy. She’s a soldier through and through.

Karryl has wanted Jane since he first realized the petite warrior holding the lines at the space station they took was a female. She is nothing like the female he imagined he would mate, but she is everything he wants. Jane is bold, brash and not at all afraid to get right in his face. God, he loves her fiery demeanor. The only problem… all indications point to Jane spying for the Terrans… a severely punishable offense. It’s going to take every wily manipulative move he can make to outwit her at her own game and win her in the end.

Claiming Her Alien Warrior is a fantastic short read. I’m looking forward to catching up to the others in the series that I haven’t read yet. If you’re like me and like rugged, take charge, alpha males and the powerhouse females they claim as their own, then you’re going to really like this one. Karryl and Jane fit the bill to the T.

So, the difference with this book is that it was released in one book instead of broken up. Considering its Mina Carter it doesn't matter which way because when she does serials she puts them out pretty quick. However, I did like that this was all in one book. I liked Jane and Karryl from Tarrick's books. I thought it was funny that he wanted a nice and meek woman who obeyed him. Ha. He so didn't get that! Jane is tough and she's an older woman and knows what she wants. She's totally independent and kick ass. I liked her but she had SUCH a stubborn streak! Karryl was just sweet and VERY persistent on wanting to mate her. This was interesting and both actually kinda got in trouble. Jane because she was caught as a spy which actually hurt him and changed his view of her. He thought her as a soldier and someone who was honest and honorable and that kinda changed after he found out it was true. I felt bad for him. However, he got in trouble with her because after they crashed after escaping she lost her memory and he used that to mate with her. They were perfectly matched and the sex was scorching! Dayum! I wonder who is gonna be next? Laaryn maybe with Jess? Hmm...I wonder who would get lucky enough to have Kenna for a mate lol. She's a chatterbox! Love this series!

I love Karryl! He is that bad assed man who knows it but, is not afraid to love and be loved. However, Jane is slightly constipated in this area which makes for some funny and interesting tension.

I dig this world and all the little details surrounding it. My only issue is that the subplot with the Humans and Jane's mission was not resolved and kind of dropped off halfway through the book. What happened? Even if it wasn't fully resolved some more information in this area would have been nice.

Thank goodness this story is all in one book. I so much appreciate that over chapter releases like the first story.

Good book for me.....which I scarfed up in one evening. I look forward to more in the series. ((hopeful look))

Claiming Her Alien Warrior is unintentionally funny, so bad it's almost good. Emphasis on the almost. Heavy on the:

- insta-love
- fated mating
- infantilisation of women as needing to be protected at all costs, even against their will
- shitty, domineering behaviour and IMHO, dubious consent (if consent is given based on a lie, then it is not consent)
- sanctimony (but I suppose a true warrior would rather lose than be even the most useless of spies)
- possessive rubbish
- penis size, as if being split apart is somehow appealing
- iffy grammar and syntax
- excess tropes because aliens and fate aren't enough, we have to have amnesia too

At least I got to practice my facepalms, I suppose.

This was such a fun and entertaining read. It‘s short and quick which makes it perfect for one evening.
I like the science fiction setting and the world the author created.
Jane and Karryl are a great match. Their tension is good and I enjoyed their banter. I was already a fan of this couple in the first book and this didn‘t disappoint. Both are fierce soldiers and Karryl loves the fact that his woman is strong.
Overall an entertaining alien romance.

In a fun twist on the aliens-abduct-brides trope, the warriors of Lathar abducted human military women from a space station. Marine Major Jane Allen is is the least docile of the anything but docile group. Karryl is great because even though he wants to do the whole 'protect my woman' thing, he goes with it and accepts that she can not only protect herself, but him.

Read as part of the boxed set Warriors of Lathar, Volume 1.

It was a beautiful story!

The characters are wonderful and cute, they are both badasses and strong. This woman is older then the others (in her 40) and he is like laughing at it saying he is in his 60 so they are kinda a match made in heaven.
They challenge each other but also love each other.

It was kinda predictable especially in the end but overall I really loved it and I can’t wait for the healer’s story.

We got to see, in the last book, Karryl, the Lathar warrior, desperately trying to woo hard-as-nails military commander, Jane Allen, but she was constantly spurning him. This little battle of wills continues in their story. Jane is trying to be true to herself, but balance her duties as a military commander and the orders she's been given to spy on the Lathar. Karryl is trying to balance his masculinity with the humiliation of being spurned by the woman he wants, and whom he wants to coddle and protect, despite her insistence that she can take care of herself. Karryl and Jane end up out in space together where he does see that she can care for herself, but that she also has a vulnerable side that wants him.

This was a bit better than the first one in the series, but I still had a few issues. I really liked and appreciated that Jane is as bad-ass as she is. I mean she can handle herself in a fight and actually impresses Karryl with it, who compliments her before he knows who it is he's just seen fighting and then immediately attempts to protect her as though she can't handle herself as soon as he does. And to the detriment of this story and their romance, it doesn't feel like Karryl wants that side of Jane. He does indicate that he likes her feisty spirit and that she can fight, but it's the vulnerability and neediness that he seeks out and craves - he wants her submission. So much so that he lies to her when she has amnesia so that she'll come to him without her prickliness. And she does. She ends up in his bed a completely different woman - open, eager, completely trusting and willing to submit without internal struggle. This felt completely and totally wrong to me...maybe because he didn't have to work for that trust or that he wasn't willing to be a decent and honorable sort and not take advantage of her situation. And IMHO Jane wasn't angry enough at that abuse of trust. And maybe because she doesn't hold onto her anger (uncharacteristically) and ends up submitting in their next bed session, I was sort of able to let it go, but it still bugged me that she let that go so easily. And also bugged me how hypocritical he was to criticize her honor for being a spy when he was wasn't honorable enough not to lie to get her into bed. Maybe if this book had been longer and they'd had the time to really delve in to that, I would have enjoyed this book more. This definitely had the potential to be better than it was, but then that's just me and my reaction to dishonorable heroes. YMMV.

Karryl🐺🍆🌋 Happened!

Major Jane Allen💋 is involved in first contact with the alien warrior🐺🔫🔪 race known as the Lathar. She is in the middle of a divorce and although the Latharian Warriors🐺🔫🔪 are Ultra Hot, Ultra sexy, she is going to keep her distance. Jane's in her early 40s and she thinks she's too old to fall in 💘love again.

The Latharian Warriors🐺🔫🔪 attacked the base ship she was on and captured everyone on board easily. They made the human women all guests of the 👑King.

All of the Latharian Warriors🐺🍆🌋🔫🔪 are completely fascinated and by the human women.💋The want to go to 🌎Earth and get lots more human women💋 for mates!

Karryl🐺🍆🌋🔫🔪 is one of the huge warriors that captured Jane💋🔫🔪 and he knows at once she is his mate.

Jane,💋🔫🔪 being the tough marine she is, resists him as hard as she can. They have some intense adventures together before Jane💋🔫🔪 finally realizes Karryl 🐺🍆🌋🔫🔪is The one For her, too and The one she loves.💘
YEHAW! Ride em Bareback🍆, Cowgirl!🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎

The writing in this book, especially the writing of the sex scenes, is exceptional, fresh, and exciting! It's been a long time since I read a book as well written as this one. Highly recommend to alpha alien romance readers!

Jane is no solider to mess with. She was not going to be “claimed” as the Lathar wanted. But she does have her eye on Karryl. Karryl has been trying to break through Jane’s wall. As much as he pushes to get her to accept his claiming, she keeps him at arm’s length. Then he is sent on a mission and she is not going to be sitting at home waiting. NOPE! She stows away.

These two are the cat and mouse. Karryl (cat) trying to get Jane (mouse) to realize that they are mates. Jane fighting it tooth and nail. But perhaps with a reason. Well a small one anyway. The big issue, UGH her commander back on Earth. But I love that even when he finds out about her past and what is going on with her, he still is drawn to her. And once Jane finally lets her defenses down, it becomes hot and steamy. Almost like angry love making but with some kink. Things do take an emotional turn and I had to hold back tears. You’ll love this one.

Oh, Karryl. OH, Karryl. You have it bad and you're really not choosing the best path to woo Jane to your side. I mean, you don't do terribly in the beginning, but she's a lady who has no problem holding her own against any man and she REALLY doesn't like being lied to when it happens.

Which is a teeny bit ironic because Jane's not telling all the truth either.

But let's ignore that for the moment and focus on the thrilling ride Karryl and Jane end up on. A crash, amnesia, sexy times in a very cold place, and danger lurking around every corner. Okay, maybe not EVERY corner, but there is danger and Jane without her memories is a Jane who can't defend herself which is tricky.

I'm digging these aliens and their search for their special someone.

This series is improving with every book. Very unusually it is a stubborn heroine who is causing the problems and I loved the twist with Jane being married.
The women from earth who opted to stay with the Lathar are finding themselves the interest of the warriors who do not understand them at all.
Jane is still an enlisted soldier though and is put under orders to spy on the Lathar.
Earth, being stupid, plans to use nuclear weapons against the Lathar with no thought to the consequences as usual.
I loved this story between Jane and Karryl. Jane is so stubborn and it is nearly right to the end before she gets her head out of her butt.
But I do love that these women are strong, capable and able to kick butt as good as the warrior males.
