Following the tragic loss of his family, young Will takes to the dangerous roads of thirteenthcentury England and beyond as he seeks his fortune and fate. The call came midmorning, the day after Christmas. A dark crime had been committed in the lands of Sir Robert. Along with many others, young Will accompanied Robert to the scene, but nothing could have prepared any of them for the horror and carnage that awaited them. Following the loss of his family, Will-a blondhaired, goodnatured boy in thirteenth century England-sets off on his own, hoping to leave the pains of the past behind. On his brave voyage, he makes many friends but also enemies that intend to rob him, kill him, or lead him astray. Will keeps to the path of his destiny. He soon finds himself forced into the world of brave knights, battles, and mad adventures across the expanses of northern England, Ireland, and the Near East. For the first time in his life, Will must fend for himself and use only his strength and goodness to stay alive. He seeks a bright future following his dark past, but first he must learn how to be a man.

The Swineherd, by Jack M.Heitz, is my one hundred and fifty-second book that I have received and read from Goodreads. This is my first book that I have read from this author. What I really enjoyed about the book was the size of it.
The story takes place in England, during the thirteenth century. The main character of this book is William Barrow. At the beginning Will is in the fields looking after the family's pigs. Will smells smoke and sees his whole village burning, and he sees his father and mother brutally murdered. Will is laying in the high grass watching and he is seen, he is almost killed himself. When he comes to, he buries the whole village. Will decides that theirs nobody else left, so he sets off on his own.
A few days later he comes upon a man who is being attacked by some Scott's. The horse takes a spear thrust into the back of the front legs. The horse goes down and the man's legs are pinned down under the horse. Will jumps into the battle and saves the man's life. Will finds out the man's name is Sir Robert, he is a knight and a Lord. Sir Robert asks Will to join his men. This is how Will becomes a knight down the road.
Will becomes a knight and gets involved in battles and adventures all across Northern England, Ireland, and the Near East.
This is really a great book to read. Anybody who likes England with knights and battles, this book is for you. I would like to thank goodreads and Jack M. Heitz for picking me to read this book.
