The girl drove me crazy in the first 3 chapters, I was done... I needed a comedy but this was a bit much for me...

The book felt very choppy at first, but then seemed to even out. It was kind of confusing, keeping up with all the terms and characters, and maybe that's why it was kind of choppy. It was a fun story, but I thought most of the characters were really mean. Are girls really that mean to each other? And are "friends" really that mean?

The story is about a BYU co-ed who just graduated from college and was trying to endure a summer of dating. She had been burned in a relationship and was pretty bitter. It was kind of fun to see who she ended up with and how it happened. I think maybe a college student would enjoy it more than I did.

Another book completed in under a week!

This one was way cute. A lot of what happens in the book has (sadly) happened to me at one point or another during single's life.

The one downer I have about the book is that the beginning is somewhat confusing. But I was really into it after the first 50 pages.

The premise or synopsis of this book is better than what is actually in the book. It does have a happy ending, though, but sadly, the main character takes forever to have any character development. She made me want to scream internally, and at times, I wanted to throw the book across the room. I don't think the book is written very well though, but it does reflect what living in Provo Utah, being single, reaching a certain age, and being a member of the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints is like. I am sure there are plenty of 20 to 30 somethings that could relate really well to the main character in this book

Unlikeable characters. Writing was very choppy. Teasing can be flirty but this was way overdone and mean. And she did not end up with the guy I thought ha. But there were some laughs, so two stars.

A compelling argument for why writers should throw out their first novel. This was a vast improvement over "Rules of Engagement," her first book. Overall, the characters were better developed and less annoying, the narrative less rambling, the dialogue more believable and coherent, and the plot less deserving of eye-rolling.
That being said, I gave this book three stars with the understanding that it was good for an LDS novel. That doesn't mean it was a great book. It still had many flaws, but I was able to overlook them much more easily than with her previous book. Foremost among my complaints is that the characters (other than physical description and names) were pretty much identical to her last book. Seriously, are people at BYU THAT stereotypical? (No, the author just failed to branch out and give us new characters). Also, the plot was painfully transparent. I mean, it's chick lit, I kind of expect to see where things are going, but you don't have to go into great detail revealing "the twist" that we all saw coming a mile away. That bugged. And then of course, there was the flirt factor. Seriously, I've been in singles wards...they really don't revolve ENTIRELY around flirting and gossiping, as the author would have us believe. And, I also don't buy the whole "guys are clueless to girls' catty exchanges" idea. The meanness between the main character and her nemesis was pretty blatant, and I just don't buy girls being that openly mean to each other. Cold war, yes. Catty jibes, not so much.
Anyway, I'm nitpicking now (I just finished it, so details are fresh on my mind), but overall, I would say if you feel strongly compelled to read an LDS chick-lit book, this is probably your best choice, but don't expect too much.

This is a great book if you are in the mood to laugh. This is probably about the second time I have read this book and this time around, being about the same age as the characters now, I had a completely different perspective. Since it is in a college setting I was excited to see if there were any similarities between my college experience compared to the book. HA! Nope, no comparison. (If someone had a similar experience, that must have been a blast!) The book exaggerated everything, and can you say drama? Yep, this book was full of it, which made for a very entertaining read. So the funny thing is that it had been so long since I had read it that I totally forgot which guy the main girl ended up with, so it was almost like reading it for the first time lol. If you want a good laugh while reading a ridiculously dramatic (in the best way) and fun story about college kids, this is your book.

This was kind of a crazy college dating story. The main character was burned in the dating scene and was very leery of a new relationship. She only wanted to hang out with guys who were considered "safe", her best guy friend, or guys who have been burned too and not looking for a relationship. She winds up getting involved in a bet with the leader of the girl-haters to see if the most "squirrely" girl would go for a good guy or a bad guy not realizing who he thought the squirreliest girl was. You can tell this book was written by someone young. She even played with some "Pride and Prejudice" undertones. It was a funny book but maybe a little over the top. Ofcourse with what I hear about BYU students it could be a true story...

I LOVED IT! I laughed out loud at least four times (which is huge for me)! I was having a very lackluster day and this book helped me make it through, because I was laughing so hard! I thought it was super predictable, but there's nothing wrong with that! I loved Christian's character, he was so nice, it was hard to imagine that it took "Jacks" so long to realize what a great guy he was. I felt bad for Jacqueline! Here she was graduated, starving and trying to keep an old minivan running for the measly amount she was making at her job. Sheesh! Even Charity was an interesting character. I was hoping to read more about Maggie and Britton though.
P.S. I have no idea what the cover has to do with the book though. Strange!

I thought this was a a great quick read for a funny romance. I absolutely loved the main character and I loved her banter with her guy friends. Plus I found the analyzation over the jerks and nice guys an interesting debate and I liked how the characters demonstrated their points. It created more scenes that really let me appreciate the author's sense of humor as I laughed about the situations that Jacqueline got her self into. And even though it's not too hard to guess the outcome of the book, the funny moments that get you there were worth it to me. So while this isn't the best LDS chick-lit I've ever read, I still really enjoyed it.

I did NOT like this book. Usually the LDS chick books are an easy, sometimes witty, read. But this one seemed so scattered. The main character was all over the place - which some characters are but the reader needs to be able to click with them and follow their thoughts and actions. I just became confused with all the chaos.

This book also had WAY too many LDS puns for me. There were too many scripture jokes or cheesy sayings that are stereotypical perhaps, but real people don't use them. It made me feel fake just reading it.

And the word "garbage" was used way too many times. I know, not important, but it really got annoying.

Kept seeing this book on hold at the library so I checked it out. This lds romance takes place right in the dating scene of byu. I was a little confused at times while reading this book, as there are many references I was unfamiliar with (although definitions are provided at the beginning of the book), such as squirrelly girl, back-burner boy, bitter girl, etc. The book is written from the main character's point of view and does jump around a little bit and I would sometimes think 'what's happening?' or 'why is she doing that?', but I guess it's just because she is so squirrelly.

While sticking with the same type of formulaic characters used in her first book, Meet Your Match still manages to be funnier and slightly better than Rules of Engagement. Perhaps I found it better because the situation of the main supporting character, Christian, rings true to my ears. I found the ending just as predictable as her last book, figuring most of it out about 1/3 of the way through. Overall an entertaining book, this should be required reading for females and how to NOT approach dating and relationships.

I actually only read half of this book, but I just could not bring myself to waste any more time on it. "Meet Your Match" is so scattered that it's almost painful. I don't understand the main character, or empathize with her at all. She is so incredibly self-deluded that I don't know how she has any real relationships. Also, the fact that she goes through the book perpetually hungry but never eating. . . I don't know why, but that really bugs me. She spends her time literally running from would-be suitors and flirting with her "just friend," Christian.

Yes, it's time for another review. This was a cute book, although I have to admit up front it was very choppy if that is the right word. She was all over the place and it was hard for me to keep up with her. She is a single adult and writes about her adventures in the SA world trying to meet her eternal companion. But by the end of the book I was reading fast to see who she would end up with, so overall I thought it was really cute.

Ummmmm. Pretty cheesey. It is all about a group of young adults in a BYU singles ward. Maybe if I had gone to BYU I might find it more interesting but. . . The author wrote from an interesting perspective. She would talk in first person but make comments to the reader as if a friend. Interesting style. Had alot of singles ward lingo that was sometimes hard to follow for me. I never quite got into that thing during my term served in the singles wards.

This story was cute and fairly light hearted but the self inflicted catastrophes became greater and greater until they were pretty much painful. I skipped through about the last fourth of the book and read the end. It made me deeply grateful not to be in a singles ward or dating! For those who are still dating and in singles wards it would probably be one of the most hilarious books ever written!

This was given to my sister by a friend of hers, along with several other books she no longer wanted. I can see why she got rid of it. What I can't believe is that I even finished it. Ugh. Hard to follow, awkward writing, unbelievable plot, confusing jargon (I had to keep flipping to the glossary to understand what in the heck she was talking about), and only relevant to those familiar with dating at BYU. I know it's been over 10 years since I graduated, but am I that out of touch?!

Main character was really annoying... her bad attitude and whiny nature bugged me, but the book had good voice and a fun story. The boys in the book were great and the main guy...THE guy was a doll. Not a super quick read, but fun, silly, and a little sappy and nicely clean. :)

Update: Liked this less the second time I read it. Very contentious dialogue that often got under my skin. You could tell the author thought herself very clever.

I thought this would be a fun little quick-read but unfortunately I found it VERY painful. There were a lot of inconsistencies and it jumped around more than I liked. I also had a hard time relating to the story because the heroine was not like me or anyone I know. I kept hoping it would get better and then was just grateful that it was over. I was disappointed because I like the occasional LDS fiction "fluff" story as a light change of pace and this just didn't fulfill the need.

Oh man, this book is so cheesy, over the top, and unrealistic... and I simply adore it! The quirky characters are ridiculous and lovable, the love story frustrating and adorable. I love the crazy narrator, and the sense of humor had me laughing out loud. There were a few times I got a bit lost in the narration and had no idea what people were talking about, but the rest of the time this book was immersive and delightful. I'm definitely glad I read it ^_^

I laughed so hard. The banter between the main character and the he-man woman hater is so hilarious. Love this author. The only thing that bothered me was how completely CONFUSED the main character was. I couldn't really get inside her head - her thoughts were all over the place. Realistic maybe, but hard to follow as a reader.

I'm too old for this book. It takes place at BYU, which I never attended, and their is so much text messaging type lingo that makes it sometimes hard to follow. The main character's thoughts are garbled and the banter between the characters goes so fast, it's almost hard to follow. I'm still not sure if I liked it or not?

This was hilarious, I want to read more of her books! It kinda reminded me of the Hale production of Pride and Prejudice...you know, the singles ward and all. I think it would make a pretty good movie actually :) A good fun read- I don't know if it would be funnier if you were actually experiencing the whole dating game/singles ward, or if like me, you've graduated!

great book for teenagers that fantasize about meeting "the one" This book is about a wager to see if the "jerk" or the "good Guy" can win the girl. Little did Jaqualine know that the girl in the wager she was making would be her or that she would really want the good guy to win her. Wow, I'm so glad that I'm married and don't have to play the dating game ever again.

The main character was so annoying that I found it difficult to root for her. This one did not remind me of college life like Rules of Engagement did. It was also set in my previous Stake, but the made up slang (no, BYU students do not talk like that) and the annoying characters made this one just ok.

The story was cute, but the writing was so choppy I nearly stopped reading it. Maybe I'm just too old to appreciate this book the way college students might.
I don't know why anyone would want to be friends with the main character so I found it hard to root for her. There was some witty dialogue though (if you could tell who was saying it), my favorite being the 'Boat' comparisons.
