Except Ye Repent
Fully convinced in my own mind that the doctrine of repentance is the missing note in many otherwise orthodox and fundamentally sound circles today, I have penned this volume out of a full heart. I hope and pray that God will be pleased to use it to awaken many of His servants to the importance of seeking so to present His truth as to bring men to the only place where He can meet them in blessing. That place is the recognition of their own demerit and absolute unworthiness of His least mercies and a new conception of His saving power for all who come to Christ as lost sinners, resting alone upon His redemptive work for salvation, and depending
upon the indwelling Holy Spirit to make them victorious over sin's power in daily life. The pages have been written during a busy summer, as I have gone from place to place trying to preach and teach the very truths herein emphasized. Most of the book was scribbled out in Pullman cars while speeding from one appointment to another. If there seems at times to be lack of continuity of thought, I hope the manifest defects of the treatise may not hinder the reader from getting the message I have endeavored to set forth as clearly as possible, under difficult circumstances. I have not written for literary critics or for theological quibblers, but for earnest people who desire to know the will of God and to do it. And so I send forth this book, in dependence on Him who has said, "Cast thy bread upon the waters: and thou shalt find it after many days." If He be pleased to use it to arouse some at least to a deeper sense of the importance of reality in dealing with souls, I shall be grateful.

Repentance. It’s not something that sounds comforting and encouraging to our poor sin dulled ears. It sounds hard. It is hard. But as Ironside so clearly shows, it is the path back to God. Not to salvation, but back to fellowship with Him. It’s also easy because God enables us to repent and He always forgives. That is why the truth of repentance is amazing, so important. God loves us.
It’s detailed. He shows us through the OT, the Gospels, Paul’s letters, and future prophecy that repentance is an integral part of every believers life from the moment for salvation on. It was a call to personal and corporate repentance, to holiness.
Read it. Maybe, you will be reminded of mercy of God to you when you first turned to Him in faith. Maybe, you will be invited back to fellowship with the Savior of your soul from what ever sin has trapped you. Or, best of all, maybe you will be convinced need to turn from your sin and to the glorious forgiveness offered by Christ. Whatever happens you will be encouraged as only the Word of God clearly explained can.

Classic work of a great pastor and theologian of the early/mid-20th century. The former Moody Church pastor leads us through a defining and practical look at repentance for those that want to be saved from their sins and a part of the daily Christian life. I would not agree with all of the theology here and there are some very outdated illustrations and applications in today's world. Overall, very strong reminder of the power of preaching and living a life of repentance as believers in Jesus. He also pushes back against a lazy teaching and living that doesn't take sin seriously enough. I would highly recommend to read books like this that are not new and bring lots to the table with strong theology.

In this book the author goes through what is probably most of the main passages on repentance in the Bible, explaining how they relate to salvation and the church. I read this book in preparing for a message on Jonah 3, and found it good and helpful. I particularly found his identification of the book of Job as a book of repentance as particularly insightful, and also appreciated his explanation of the relationship between repentance and salvation. I would have appreciated more reflection on repentance in the church, but he did address the idea of group repentance briefly. Overall, a good book to have read and reference.

Excellent book! Very well written and covers a topic that most churches and authors skip in the 21st century - repentance. A relationship with God starts with seeing yourself as you are and repenting of not acknowledging God or being too proud to need Him. Ironside captures many concepts not heard of lately in this time of the grace-only gospel. People need to hear the gospel as God intended it to be heard and Harry Ironside presents it in a factual way (not a fire and brimstone way), without apologies for the truth of the gospel. Except Ye Repent and change your attitude towards sin and God, you won't find Him in all His truth and glory. 8-31-2014. I'm going to read it again.
2016 - reading it again and getting so much more out of it. The need for a change in attitude about sin is so much more apparent than in 2014. I am not a good person that makes mistakes; I am a sinner that was saved by undeserved grace, and is being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. I understand this book more now and need it's message more than ever.

This book is not for the faint of heart! Ironside brings the Biblical definition of repentance to light and challenges the reader to do some real soul searching. This book is not a light read so while it looks small don't let its size fool you. "Unless You Repent" is heavy reading but well worth the time and effort.

Excellent book about a doctrine that many, to their own peril, have neglected. Let it be proclaimed from the housetops and the mountain tops that unless men are led by the goodness of God to repentance of their evil deeds, they shall all likewise perish.
