The US is in chaos after being plunged into darkness by an EMP event. Mankind descends to the lowest level of conduct. Starvation and death stalk the unwary and unprepared. A small group manages to survive and fight back in the hope of saving the American way of life.
The way all the neat artillery just fell into the hands of the good guys made it seem as if weapons do indeed grow on trees. I enjoyed reading this, but it's kind of simplistic, and needs much better editing. The dialogue, as such, was stilted and poorly done. But with practice and polish I expect the author will improve. After an EMP wipes out the power, the characters focus on surviving and trying to make it to their secluded farms bordering Louisiana and Mississippi. One thing I found surprising was the talk of how cold it was. I've been to that area in the dead of winter and it was usually pretty mild. After making it home, our heroes find out that the EMP was caused by nukes, and the USA has been invaded by Russians. Results: enjoyable, but needs a lot of editing. Longer than a lot of books in this genre, which are often too short, but much of the length is from repetition.
Enjoyable post-apocalyptic book but not without flaws.
The world as we know it is turned upside down when an EMP hits the US. 2 men lead survival efforts in the aftermath in the Mississippi valley area. The premise of this book is familiar but the story is interesting enough to recommend. The luck of the main characters is rather much... Man is prepared, man saves woman and they fall in love... In a weeks time! The other beef I had with the plot is that the major blame of the demise of the US was communist members of the army and government. Maybe I am naive, but I cannot imagine that the numbers of true communist supporters that would join foreign legions in attacking civilians and peers would be a very small number, not sufficient to bring down the government.
The writer shows how important it is to be prepared for almost any event. Especially a life altering situation as an EMP. I would like to see a book on how someone survives an EMP in a large city like New York City, if possible. I would recommend this book. You do not want to put it down, until the last word.
What a wonderful read. This talented author has all the right storytelling instincts to make a very entertaining and thought provoking novel. This book has bad guys, good guys and women, and the conflicts they encounter. I like the strategies involved and the tremendous conclusion. I highly recommend this book.
This was a good story about a surprise EMP attack on America, but only for a small part of the U.S. The ending begs for more info about the Chinese and Cuban attack and could turn into a great series.
Well written, fast paced, good character development. No cussing, thanks for that. Very intense. EMP messes everything up, people working together to survive, but when not left alone strike back. Looking forward to more from this author.
I have been reading a lot of books like Mitchell's Mountain and am a believer in the second amendment. The right to be armed can never be taken away. A few bad apples can't stand for the rest of us. Just say No to taking our guns.
I found this to be one of the most entertaining reads in a long time. Could not put it down. I will not attempt to spoil the details but as a special note: you will love the characters!
