Very careful to portray an unbiased, factual, historical, and scientific report of these topics. Tries to avoid drawing any speculative conclusions or taking any stance. Since it was written in 2006, does not include more recent brain research findings and theories. Ends up sounding like an extremely dry and out of date text book. Would be better titled: History of views on Meditation and Hypnosis, 18th-20th century.
This book is very helpful in subject matter. Learning about the mind in a way which reveals the history of it and is generally smart in information format, this a good book to reference for a course such as psychology. Going into a class with the knowledge of this book helps to understand yourself as well as those around you. Giving detailed explanations about the inner workings of your brain while at the same time captivating the reader. The pictures help with the general aspect of the subject as all of them are relevant and precise. I choose to give it three stars as it was fascinating but sometimes run on. Oh well.
