Superhero
The writing was fine. What never clicked for me was the compulsion to have a secret identity and live like a pauper while fighting crime, with the result you are late all the time, and more successful parents don't lend a hand. The rationale for why the MC struggles so hard never came across. I kept thinking over and over, why is she struggling so hard to maintain a false identity? If it's a parody of the working poor, it hit, but also missed. I wish Princess Jones success. I wanted her MC to succeed, but doing it just because it's always been done that way before? Why put yourself through such hardship? What do you get for spending all your free time patrolling parts of the city after your day job? How often do supers clash before the regular people figure out the are super villains and the government needs to step in?

Fun little story about a super heroine. Her power is not really active - I guess you would call it super healing, kinda like Wolverine without the strength, blades etc. Her life is as ho-hum as her power, hanging onto her job, hanging onto her apartment, no money to do anything, no romance and her closest friend is her fish.
Not much of a story either.
Not real good, not real bad either so 3 stars!!!
Will I read #2 - if it is cheap.

Not my favorite.

A day in the life of a D-list superhero. Audrey is sort of a sad sack, Murphy's Law type. Misfortune smiles on her, and, while she takes the hits and keeps coming, she's fairly graceless about it. Which is real. But not something I want to read on the page. (Compare this heroine with Karen in SJ Delos's So Not A Hero, and Audrey looks even less attractive.)

I might have overlooked it except that there's no real plot going on in this story. There's a bad guy. It's a superhero story: gotta have a bad guy. But the bad guy's plot just sort of happens around Audrey in the same way that emergency sirens just sort of happen around traffic. It doesn't involve you more than the need to make way. I think I might have wanted Audrey more engaged with the bad guy plot, or for the story to go full-on with the day-in-the-life story with an actual plot there even if it's as mundane as "will Audrey make rent this month?"

Princess Jones is a great author. I simply completed her most recent book, called Super. It was a speedy, comical and exceptionally enlivening read around a whimsical superhero named Audrey. Audrey condemnations, is never prompt, and gorges on garbage sustenance. She isn't the most mindful superhero. She can't even make it to the laundry on time to get her superhero outfit. Audrey is adorable, however, notwithstanding her sluggishness and mocking mind. What's more, at last, Super winds up being a story about tolerating our loved ones and understanding our actual potential. Those are the things that make every one of us superheroes. Princess left this totally open for a spin-off and I can hardly wait to peruse the further enterprises of the grandly insuperable Audre

Down on your luck Super with a mix of what real life alter ego would bring.

IE: No lovely pay grades ala Batman or even Clark Kent level. Essentially if the Super in question had a regular 9 to 5 job like the most of us.

I loved the characters and the humor. Will definitely look into buying more from her at some point.

Download the sample and see what you think. I for one love this take on Supers. Makes them seem more on level with how we would react to having powers.

First, this is nothing like any of the other super hero stuff I've read. If you're looking for an action movie or a something like that, you won't like it. But I liked that it wasn't the same as everything else. The main character is one of those people who just can't get anything right. Some of the other reviews have mentioned the plot wandering. I noticed that, too, but it wasn't as big as a problem because I was having some much fun reading it.

This is a fun and exciting little book, and when I imagined Rebel Wilson as our 'super' hero Audrey, I couldn't stop laughing, and found it very hard to put down the book.
I got my copy free from amazon.ca and there were a few miss-spelled words, words passed by the auto-correct dictionary. which would have made this 4 star review a 5.

Rounded from 3.5

Good but slow. Interesting protagonist, with a distressingly relatable life, takes a long time to notice the villainous scheme under her nose.
An oddly light hearted novel.
For fans of off-beat supers, or under employed millenials.

A humorous story about a looser with weak superpowers, a walking disaster who screws up anything. 3.7 stars.
