1820-The Essex, a whaling ship, is destroyed by a creature that was reported to be a bull sperm whale.

1842 - Herman Melville, one day author of Moby Dick, sees something in the water as his ship sails through the Galapagos Islands.

2015 - Richard Chase, a freelance writer, is invited on a scientific expedition to find a rare and unknown creature.

Richard cannot know what lies in store on the long journey between Los Angeles and the Galapagos Islands. If he could have ever imagined what awaits out there then nothing could have convinced him to board that ship.

What's out there is like nothing he could have ever imagined.

There is something out there that is very old, and very terrible. Something in the DEEP.

This work is the product of a twisted mind. This book is not for the faint-hearted.

*** WARNING - This is a horror story. It contains graphic depictions of some intensely unpleasant scenes. The author never set out to shock or upset readers with the content. The author has simply tried to be as true to the story as possible. The result, however, has shocked and upset some readers. Readers are asked to bare this in mind before deciding to embark on this voyage. ***

This second edition has been released to correct significant errors in editing and formatting. Many thanks to the customer who took the time to make these errors apparent.

Quite a good, short read. The author instils a growing sense of unease and rising panic in the reader which totally hits the mark. The story grabs from the outset and gradually unravels the hopelessness of the situation. Suspenseful and gory.

I read the kindle version and should point out it's littered with grammatical errors but not to the extent it spoiled my enjoyment. However, it may put some readers off.

The four stars rating does not signify that I liked this book. It merely reflects the appreciation for the technical expertise of the writer. This has got to be one of the best written horror and psychological books I have ever read. That being said it is disgusting. Cannibalism, rape, murder, and torture are just a few of the insane things that a supernatural being forces the characters on the ship to do to each other. I have a strong stomach, I like horror, and off kilter stories, but this one left me feeling dirty.
