Documenting her fairy tale romance with Elvis Presley, the author breaks her oath of silence and reveals her secret love affair, pregnancy with Elvis's child, and agonizing breakup with the King. Reprint.
well this is by far one of my all time favorite books. this book lets you into elvis's world which not a lot of people came into. and you can see that joyce loved elvis and he loved her right back even through he was still married to priscilla. i as well read priscilla's version (elvis and me) and i feel priscilla made him into a bad person. even through he was a rockstar. but joyce makes him into a lovable human being who care for others, worth a read.
Reread March 12, 2019 It will always be a 5 star read for me This was one of the books that I have reread often, actually it's the only book I've ever reread. Joyce Bova writes us a novel that can be seen like a movie inside our minds. If you read this, you would understand when I say we were taken on a rollercoaster ride. We were strapped in. We were there for the first meeting. The meeting with President Nixon and the start of when the drugs were becoming more of an every day thing. To the point Joyce couldnt take to see the man she loves wreck himself. I always felt that Joyce was sincere about her feelings and was truthful throughout the whole book. I really wish there was more on her. I'm a big Elvis fan but out of all the women he dated and was surrounded by I felt that she truly loved and cherished Elvis and wasn't there for the fame or money. She's one of the only people that didnt go into show business after he died. She didn't need to tell her side of the story but I'm glad she did. She was my favorite and always will be.
Oh, God. I wondered about Priscilla's "Elvis and Me" whether she was flat out lying or whether her story was perhaps a case of truth being stranger than fiction. Similarly, I wonder if Joyce Bova's account of her affair with Elvis is a result of her simply reading Priscilla's memoir to glean some details of what a relationship with Elvis might be like and telling it to her own ghostwriter, or whether it might make sense that Elvis really did just sort of lather, rinse, repeat his relationship with Priscilla with Joyce Bova. Also similarly, who cares. I came for a trashy Elvis story, and I wouldn't trade the trade the three tipsy hours I spent reading this on the flight home from Nashville.
This book will show you all sides of the King. The hold he had on everyone From his Memphis Mafia to Priscilla and author of this book. The real Elvis that eventually brought down his own demise.
BORING, self centered, egotistical. I hated the picture she painted of Elvis. Don't wasted your money. Sorry I did. Could not finish this fabricated book!!
I truly wanted to like this book, but it is so filled with untruths and self gratifying nonsense that I found it ridiculous. Why would a man like Elvis Presley put up with all of the denials and excuses that she conjured up in her mind in this book? How did this little nobody keep her clerks job in Congress with so much absenteeism? How could she have an abortion while carrying Elvis' child without having the love and respect to tell him? He should have been part of that decision. Their sex life was nothing to write home about. She got a very jaded view of life while taking all of those pills, yet criticized him for the same behavior. I adore Elvis Presley, but do not waste your time on this horrific novel of lies
Don't know if the whole story is true ,when though the way she writes about Elvis is not flattering. He comes across as manipulative, selfish and controlling. What bothered me as well was the way he popped his placidyls, and offering it to his girlfriend too.
Such a sad story. The ending was really quite heartbreaking and poignant. I did not however like Joyce as a person. She struck me as remarkably vain and the sort of person who coasts by on her good looks alone. I was astounded that she wasn’t fired from her job and I hate the fact that she had no problem with being an adulteress.
How do writers remember these things for 20 years? For me this is an incredibly sad story. p. 39 "Why me?". "Why not you?" Same question that Elvis asked of the universe/God. p. 41 ...he could not accept another person not doing what he wanted them to--and at the exact moment he wanted it done. p. 47. ...he knew he w as just a 19-year-old poor, white trash kid from down south...
Joyce Bova is a name that may not be known to every Elvis fan, but she was one of the most significant women in Elvis's personal life.
I would encourage every Elvis fan to read this book. It is the remarkable story of his intimate relationship with an intelligent and resilient woman who shared a special connection with him. It also gives us a lot of insight into his life and times and solves the mystery surrounding his famous trip to Washington to see President Nixon.
Joyce is someone who had the good fortune to attract two good men into her life, one of whom was the King. PS Her sister Janice gives her some great advice at a birthday lunch in The Monocle restaurant. (People with high-profile partners take note!)
Do I believe this book.....No, not really. For one thing, Elvis was very inhibited about his body. He would never just lie there naked as is stated in the book. He was very self conscious of him not being circomcised. Even if it was just the guys around him, he wouldn't let them see him naked. He'd put a long shirt on then change his pants. Also, everyone knew that you NEVER went with one of Elvis' girls. However, Sunny and Joyce dated. It was an on and off situation however they did date and that was a definite no no! She also had no problem being with a married man who also had a daughter! So much fiction!
