I'm always a bit skeptical of the idea of visioning and affirmations to change your life, but I really would like to believe it works. This book is good inspiration for such a process, letting go and letting your heart guide you in designing your dreams. The author outlines 10 steps to take, beginning with collecting pictures and words from magazines and advertisements, setting a phrase to guide the process, using your intuition to pick the pictures that speak to you, and then committing to them by attaching them with glue to posterboard or art paper. She also suggests adding journaling to the process, using both dominant and non-dominant hands, to further flush out the ideas that your collage reveals. It sounds like a fun process with certainly nothing to lose except the time you spend. I will definitely try it out.
The first half of the book could have been presented and written more concisely. The latter half certainly has useful examples of what collages and vision boards look like. It was annoying to find that in some cases the author would refer the reader to her other books for further information about something. When I think about how much waffle could have been edited out from the first half and made way for sections from her other books instead, it irks me. That said – it’s a nice book for an introduction to the concept of vision boards but I’d look out for a better book on the shelf if I could find one as vision boards and creative visioning are getting more widely known.
I read parts of this book years ago when I bought it, but I'd never read it cover to cover. I started to think about it - due to a lot of inner work that's happening right now - and I went looking for it. I am glad I did. Capacchione's method for 'visioning' things into reality is something that I realize I've been doing for the past year (at least). And since there are some areas of my life that I would like to see flower what better way than to use her very effective creative techniques to do so? This is an inspiring read. If you are wanting a new job or more abundance or romance or peace, perhaps her techniques will help you too.
Another school book for me and I now that I have read the whole thing I will go back and use it in the workshop manner that it is written in. I had to get through it to write a paper on it though. It is an interesting take on designing your life and a path to help support your reaching your goals by using the tools that designers use. Ya know - clothing designers, architects or cartoonists. It seems a bit fluffy initally but the few exercises I have dont so far have been pretty powerful!
This is a work book on "designing" your life by accessing your heart's desire. I totally love this book and recommend it to anyone who is "searching" or wants help moving closer to their dream life.
Great enthusiasm for our capacity to create ourselves and our own success. It is thought-provoking and brings us back to the benefits of listening to the inner self and gives clear suggestions about locating our inner desires nd wishes. I enjoy Capacchione's teaching style.
The purpose and method of visioning is well illustrated here by Lucia Capacchone. I will use a good deal of what I have learned personally and in my own teaching. My main criticism is that the explanation of the process was a bit long winded and there could have been more time and space for further examples and for the range of applications - hence the 3 stars.
