Knowing the Bible

Ephesians: A 12-Week Study

Rate this book
A tremendous resource for those wanting to study and teach the Bible with an understanding of how the gospel is woven throughout Scripture. --Bryan Chapell, Pastor, Grace Presbyterian Church

The Knowing the Bible series is a resource designed to help Bible readers better understand and apply God's Word.

These 12-week studies lead participants through books of the Bible and are made up of four basic components: (1) reflection questions help readers engage the text at a deeper level; (2) "Gospel Glimpses" highlight the gospel of grace throughout the book; (3) "Whole-Bible Connections" show how any given passage connects to the Bible's overarching story of redemption, culminating in Christ; and (4) "Theological Soundings" identify how historic orthodox doctrines are taught or reinforced throughout Scripture.

With contributions from an array of influential pastors and church leaders, these gospel-centered studies will help Christians see and cherish the message of God's grace on every page of the Bible.

The letter to the Ephesians is a source of great encouragement, clearly proclaiming the mystery of the gospel and the supremacy of Jesus while applying that theology to practical living. Made alive in Christ, believers have received a bountiful inheritance and lavish blessings from God, fueling us for holy living.

In this study, Eric Redmond opens our eyes to Paul's teaching about God's astonishing grace--grace that enables us to walk in love, holiness, and wisdom as we become imitators of Christ.

Grateful for a workbook to break these chapters into sections. I have been teaching from this and very quickly felt unclear on how to use this as a companion. I am not sure who the audience is…there are many helpful paragraphs on the significant doctrines covered in Ephesians, but the question meant to guide the reader through the passage are very confusing (often run on sentences with multiple questions). It is as if the questions were not edited or thoughtfully considering the reader. I had to spend more time encouraging the students to get into scripture and not be discouraged by the lack of direction and help expected from the workbook.

I am curious to see if other editions written by other authors feel the same as this one?

I've used other "Knowing the Bible" study guides in a group setting, and I have to say I liked those studies better than this one. While I found the notes at the end of each section to be helpful, the group discussion questions were often too wordy and difficult to decipher. Sometimes they seemed to be written more to impress than to communicate clearly with the study participants. A study of this type should emphasize clarity and understanding, and our group was often remarking on the fact that this objective was often missed.

Read this one with our ladies’ Bible study group and really enjoyed working through Ephesians. Some of the questions were a bit flat and in my opinion, did not dig in as much as I was expecting. But still a good study and I loved the sections at the end of each chapter that talked about “Gospel Glimpses”, “Whole Bible Connections”, and “Theological Soundings”.

Sparked a lot of good discussion but there were lots of questions that didn’t make sense and took a while to decipher.

Questions are redundant. Often require the use of ChatGPT to answer as they are quite difficult. Overall, good study book to understand the book of Ephesians and comprehension is solid.

I didn’t have a problem with the content, but I found the questions to be confusing and mostly unhelpful.
