Big Nate Graphic Novels #12

Big Nate: The Crowd Goes Wild!

Rate this book
Aspiring cartoonist Nate Wright is the star of Big Nate, the daily and Sunday comic strip, which has been nationally syndicated since 1991. Nate is 11 years old, four-and-a-half feet tall, and the all-time record holder for detentions in school history. He's a self-described genius and sixth grade Renaissance Man. Nate, who lives with his dad and older sister, enjoys pestering his family and teachers with his sarcasm. To draw Big Nate, Peirce relies on memories of his own childhood and the experiences he collected teaching art at a New York City high school. Peirce occasionally turns his pen over to his creation, and readers get to see life through Nate's eyes as he doodles his adventures in his notebook.

Lincoln Peirce is a cartoon artist from Portland, Maine. He lives with his wife and two children, and occasionally gives lectures to students about cartoon creating. Peirce writes the comic strip "Big Nate". Peirce's comic strip, Big Nate, is featured as an island on the famous children's website, Poptropica. Big Nate appears as the first cartoon on The Maine Sunday Telegram in the comics section.

He studied art at Colby College in Maine were he began cartooning. He also studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture before teaching art and coaching basketball at a New York highschool for 3 years. In an interview with the Washington Post, Peirce stated that his last name is pronounced "purse" and is not a misspelling of "pierce."

Lincoln Peirce was a member of the "Surviving as a Print Cartoonist" Panel at the Maine Comics Art Festival with fellow cartoonists Corey Pandolph (Barkeater Lake, Toby: Robot Satan, The Elderberries), Norm Feuri (Retail, Gill) and with Mike Lynch moderating. On the panel Lincoln revealed he is currently working with some animation and licensing projects including the addition of a Big Nate island to the online game Poptropica.

I love this comic, and I am not happy that my newspaper does not have it leaving me no option but to go on-line to read the strip. This is a good collection. However, I think it could use some editing/organization. The book is a series of strips that have been published in newspapers. In many cases, there are more than one strip on each page and I sometimes had difficulty figuring out where one strip/storyline ended and where another began. I think this could have been fixed if more care was taken not o just cram it all in. However, this is the first time I have read something like this on my Kindle Fire, so that device may be the problem, since I have never encountered this before. This book contains the quintessential Nate—the short boy who envisions himself as a super hero, a Lothario, a brainiac, etc., who gets into all sorts of different situations that are just outright funny. The book is laugh-out-loud funny, but I think most of Big Nate’s strips and other books are also. I think anyone who enjoys a good laugh, who enjoys this strip, or who enjoys other comics will enjoy this one. It will definitely provide a good break from other events in life. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.

I'm reading about "Big Nate goes wild" and it is a very interesting book. The authors name is Lincoln Peirce and I love the series big Nate. He is silly and funny and will make you laugh. I think my most interest in this book is that it makes me happy. I love reading it and I think you would to. Big Nate is the main man the number one. He and his friends Franklin and teddy are always by his side. It's a comic book but it's a funny one. He always gets jealous when he spots his crush hanging out with his not so called friend of his. His name is artur and he is funny. And his crushes name is Jenny. She doesn't like him. And then there is his teacher mrs.godfrey. She is always yelling at him because he doesn't focus and draws. And he says that's he just doesn't like him. He mostly draws funny things about his teachers. He is almost like me in a way. I like reading these comics because I learn from them. I also realized that he is very much like Alvin from "Alvin and the chipmunks." Anyway but big Nate is a good book. And there are more than just one book. So you should totally look up to reading this. I think you'll enjoy it a lot.

I wanted to like this book. Really. But...it's just not happening for me. The lame attempts at humor aren't funny. I even tried pretending I was a second grader- still not funny. I anticipated that it would read like a novel but instead it is a series of comics jammed into book form, one right after the other. Sometimes there is continuity amongst the comics and other times there is not. I am completely failing to see how this comic is at all relatable or funny for elementary students as the content seems more appropriate and understandable for middle or high school students.

I am a school librarian and my elementary school students say they love this series (it was on the shelves when I arrived here two years ago) although, as I said above, I don't believe elementary students can fully comprehend the "humor" in the book. I would classify it more as a Hi-Lo book. Sadly, it is not a book I will continue to recommend to my students. Previously I recommended it to students based on it's popularity and with the added caution that I had not read the series myself. Ignorance is bliss, I guess. I definitely will not be reading other books in the Big Nate series nor will I be replacing them when they wear out at my library as I don't believe they were intended to be read by elementary students.

Big Nate the Crowd Goes Wild by Lincoln Pierce is an ok book. It is hard to understand sometimes. Other than that it is very good. It is funny sometimes. I personally rate this book a 7 out of 10.
This book was about Nate going to school and having a boring school year and then in summer. In the summer he made a brand new comic and he tried to sell it but it didn't work out. Read this book to find out how the beginning of school went for Nate.
I would recommend this book to people who like comics. Also if they like funny books. If someone wants to read a fairly easy read and a good story then this would be the book for them to read. This was a good book.

The book Big Nate The Crowd Goes Wild by Lincoln Perice. I do not read Big Nate that much but when I do I love it. It would be cool if they made a movie.

Nate and Teddy said that they will study with Francis. Francis had a lot of books stacked up and Nate was wondering where the food was. Later in the book they have a sign that said free water, it was a hot summer day and when people ask him for water he would spray them with a hose. He was trying to sell wrapping paper for his Boy Scout troop but that did not work out. He was babysitting a little boy that did not like sports and he tried to get them to sports but he did not like it.

I recommend this book for people that like comedies.

The book Big Nate: The Crowd Goes Wild by Lincoln Pierce is a fun, funny, exciting book about a kid named Nate who is funny and starts a band. In this book, Nate creates a band called Enslave the Mollusk and they want to join Battle Of The Bands, but they don't have enough money to do it. Even though, they can't do it, Nate stays positive and finds other activities to do, like playing basketball. Even better, Prank Day is coming and Nate has a master prank that no one will expect-setting up a date for Ms. Godfrey, and a clown! What else could be better?

Graphic Novel
Elementary level readers will love the humor as Nate moves through his school year.
Peirce has created a relatable character who tries and says things many students won't in real life.

I know I'm not the intended audience for this book, but I received a free copy from AMP and I keep hoping that I will find the humor in one of these. There just isn't any though. I wouldn't let my kid read it because Nate is rude, mean, lazy, and destructive. He doesn't respect anyone around him and only wants instant gratification. His attitude towards women is gross and harassing, there just aren't positive qualities about this book. The only reason it's getting 2 stars is because I understand popularity has a lot to do with it and I know it works well for reluctant readers. But I don't want to encourage it.

Big Nate is fun to read. He reminds me of people I know with their big ideas and self confidence. Everything Nate tries to do is big....over the top ideas that are funny. He's the leader of his pack ....at least in his mind he is. His friends put up with him and go along at times knowing it's all going to blow up in Nate's face. But that doesn't matter. Nate doesn't give up or stop being who he is. He's jealous of Artur being with Jenny, who Nate adores. He hates Mrs. Godfrey. He loves sports, especially baseball but he isn't very good at any sports. His dad is a constant embarrassment to him and visa versa. Following Nate through his life is surprising, humorous and interesting.

I think this book is great for kids and teenagers because its an interesting cartoon comedy comic strip story. This story tells about Nate an 11 year old self described genius and sixth grade, talented boy who lives with his dad and older sister and enjoys annoying his family and teachers with his mockery.

Big Nate - I was skeptical at first, but my son said it's funny and he's right. There are some good chuckles to be had. Nate isn't my favourite character in the books and I find he's less amusing than the people around him. But he's a good foil and that's why it works.

I really love this book because it has a lot of sports. I recommend it to people who like baseball and football. My favorite parts are the parts when they’re at school because they’re funny.
