Sent Devotions for the Season

Rate this book
As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them . . . —John 17:18 God sent Christ into the world as our Savior. That’s what Christmas is all about. In turn, Christ sends us into the world. But do we really understand how, where, and why we are sent? This five-week, churchwide Advent study challenges us through story, art, and Bible study to discover what it means to be Christ’s hands, feet, head, and heart. Centered around a DVD with 8-10 minute videos created by a group of dynamic young pastors, Sent is appropriate for adults and youth. The study includes a Participant Book, a Leader Guide for adult small groups, a Youth Study Guide for students ages 13-18, and The Children’s Leader Guide for use with kids 12 and under. A companion book, Devotions for the Season, offers four weeks of personal daily reflections. Devotions for the Season offers four weeks of daily reflections that provide a perfect addendum to the Sent Advent study. It also functions beautifully on its own. The reflections, prepared especially for use during Advent, include Scripture, personal insights, daily challenges, and prayers.

Advent Devotional

This is a good devotional for the Advent season. It touches on some key topics and has the potential to open up different perspectives for the reader.

This devotional works alongside of the book and DVD study SENT. The devotional, like the study, is divided up among five authors. It works. It is not disjointed, but instead is five different voices working at the larger theme of what it means that the God who sent us Jesus at Christmas now sends us to serve and live for him in the world. One of the best qualities of this Advent devotional is that it does not get bogged down in traditional Advent stories and approaches, but instead pulls scripture from different locations and does indeed work with Advent not as a story to be rehashed, but as a key to a faith to be lived.
