Love on a Deadline: An August Wedding Story by Kathryn Springer

MacKenzie “Mac” Davis returns to her hometown of Red Leaf, Wisconsin, and takes a job at the weekly newspaper writing about social events.

When Hollis Channing, Mac’s high school nemesis, returns to Red Leaf to marry her celebrity fiancé, the editor asks Mac to cover all the festivities for the newspaper. Picture Perfect Love:

Picture Perfect Love was a sweet romance. I liked the second chance love story and even though it was predictable, there were a few surprises. :)

I grew to really like the characters. At first, I wasn't crazy about them; but, as the story went on, I could see why they acted the way they did.

All in all, a great read. Just what I needed to read, as I was in the mood for a sweet contemporary romance.

I Hope You Dance:

I Hope You Dance was okay. The romance was WAY too quick and the story kind of boring at times. I feel like the only conflict in the novella was their disagreement on having kids someday and even that wasn't that big of a deal. All in all, it wasn't terrible, but I didn't love it.

Love on a Deadline:

Love on a Deadline was a really cute read and much better than the first book (Love at Mistletoe Inn) in this second set of "Year of Weddings" novellas.

I liked the characters and how Mac had feelings for Ethan in high school, but certain circumstances caused them to never get together. This story is kind of their second chance at love.

While the ending isn't the happily ever after you expect, it was still sweet and I liked it. I also enjoyed the other romance story in Ethan's sister's wedding -- I really liked that couple!

All in all, a fun read and I recommend it if you have a couple hours and want to read a light, romance story.

Normally I am a huge fan of Happily Ever Afters, but in each one of these stories I wanted the heroine to boot the hero to the curb and leave him there. I know that forgiveness is divine and all that crap, but come on!
The heroines were good strong characters before they reached the end of their story, so it's the only thing that saved it.

Average of 3.5 stars...each story individually rated below.

Picture Perfect: 3 stars. This one didn't grab me...just so-so. I think the reason behind Ash breaking the engagement was pretty weak. And the fact that he made Jenna take all the financial responsibility from the fallout of their wedding that HE walked out on?? Practically unforgivable. It was hard for me to like him because of that in their past.

I Hope You Dance: 2-3 stars. Insta-love (spoiler: as in they not only fell in love, but were engaged within a couple weeks). Not my thing.

On a Deadline: 5 stars. By far my favorite. Loved this one...a girl's first crush returns. Always a fun storyline! No insta-love and plenty of romance/banter. My kind of story! Mac wants nothing more than to escape the small town that held embarrassing memories from high school for her. She moved back home to help take care of her dad after he had a heart attack. Now she's just putting in time doing menial pieces for the local paper, waiting for a real article that she can submit with her resume to a large paper in Milwaukee. It will be her ticket out of Red Leaf and onto doing what she loves. Then Ethan Channing, her high school crush, returns home. In high school, Ethan just saw Mac as the kid daughter of his football coach. But when they reunite, it's a different story. This was a fun, clean love story.

Romance, clean, Christian elements
This was a lovely compilation of novellas. I enjoyed reading each one, each had a different story line that was so varied, but still fun HEA. Picture Perfect Love my Melissa McClone, was a story about forgiveness, and neglecting to make something right from a long time ago. Jenna and Ash's story, their past, and the hurts and healing that happened for them as Jenna is convinced to photograph Toby and Amber's wedding, even though Amber was the one to cause Jenna so much hurt in the past. Ash's realization, his past and present mistakes, his finally realizing where his heart had been for so long, and Jenna's generosity in forgiving him for his past and present mistakes, and the healing that they both experience was a lovely read, and of course, a lovely new beginning.
"I Hope You Dance" by Robin Lee Hatcher was a lovely read. A sweet fall, and while it was quick, the feelings and genuine hearts she portrays made for a beautiful story. Skye and Grant were a lovely couple, both falling even before they knew what was happening. RLH describes their fall so beautifully, and with such surprise and anticipation that makes the quickness of it all the sweeter. Again, two genuine, honest hearts, not realizing they were looking for something. Grant's realization at the end, that helps him understand a glimpse of the future, was a lovely resolution.
"Love on a Deadline" by Kathryn Springer, was again, a lovely read. Mac and Ethan's past, as it mingled with their present, made for a beautiful fall. I loved how she pulled the history from all of the characters to build to the forgiveness, hope and another lovely HEA. Loved the house, the small town, the characters who had matured and grown over the course of time. Mac and Ethan's story, mingled with Hollis and Connor's story was another lovely read, and perfect way to end the 'summer' novellas. Small town charm, and beautiful hearts.

There's not much more romantic than weddings and it was fun to see a photographer, dance instructor, and newspaper social columnist get their HEAs, especially as each role plays such an important part in many other brides happy endings.

Each story is short and sweet, with strong female leads, but the heroes were a little aggravating. Since they are novellas, the romance was a tad bit rushed for my taste and it would have been fun to see the stories and characters fleshed out more. This type of collection is perfect for moments when the reader is short on time, to catch a snippet of love here and there. LOVE ON A DEADLINE was my favorite of the set.

Content: Christian elements; mild romance

Review:
This book has 3 cute love stories about Summer Weddings by 3 different Contemporary Romance authors set in June, July and August.

Each story had its own individualness to it which was enjoyable to read and perfect for Romance-a-thon this month!!

DNF. 10 mentions of God in the first couple of pages... yep, I’m done.

I’m not against characters being religious, but bible bashing camouflaged as a book is just not on.

All three of these love stories were super sweet. Kathryn Springer's story was my favorite but I didn't not like any of them. I also loved the Christian element in there as well.

Picture Perfect Love: A June Wedding Story by Melissa McClone

When image becomes everything, it’s up to love to refocus the heart.

Photographer Jenna Harrison wants every bride and groom to look picture perfect on their special day. But her own heart is still broken, the unworn wedding dress hanging in her closet a reminder that relationships aren’t always as perfect as they look through her camera lens.

Attorney Ashton Vance is the one that got away, but he wrongly blamed Jenna for ruining his political aspirations. Even if Jenna can forgive him, dare he hope for a second chance at her love?

My thoughts: PICTURE PERFECT LOVE is the first story I’ve read by Melissa McClone. I enjoyed PICTURE PERFECT LOVE and it held my interest all the way through. I didn’t think much of Ashton though. He accuses Jenna of betraying his trust, but yet over and over he betrays hers. I don’t know if I would have forgiven him quite as easily as she did. I had to admire how she handled herself around him and his sister, showing forgiveness, yet standing firm for her rights.

There were some things I didn’t like. Letting the bride’s brother pay double her going rate to photograph his sister’s wedding. If she truly forgave them, then she wouldn’t have done that. She seemed a bit mercenary, with that and with another issue. I did like how she found a good church and friends who supported her, both spiritually and in friendship and love.

If you like contemporary romance, you’ll enjoy PICTURE PERFECT LOVE. 4.5 stars.

I Hope You Dance: A July Wedding Story by Robin Lee Hatcher

Can two left feet lead to one perfect romance?

Grant Nichols is a genius in the kitchen and a klutz on the dance floor. But his friend’s wedding is shaping up to be a shindig the likes of which Kings Meadow has never seen—including dancing. Lots of dancing.

Former rodeo queen Skye Foster is offering dance lessons for the wedding party. Grant and Skye are no match on paper. But when they step onto the dance floor, they create a melody all their own.

My thoughts: I HOPE YOU DANCE is the seventh book in the second Year of Weddings series by Zondervan. Skye is a dance instructor for weddings and is big with waltz’s and two-steps. She is also a rodeo queen and dreams of marrying a cowboy. Grant is a cowboy, loves country music, but he cannot dance.

My first impression of this story was hokey. The characters were somewhat flat, the story was predictable, and there was no meat to the story. The only conflict was over the issue of kids. Robin Lee Hatcher is a hit or miss author for me, and I’ve missed her series lately some of the secondary characters were introduced in, but this story stood alone anyway.

Ms. Hatcher’s writing is impeccable, and fans might really love it. Also those who love the Year of Weddings series. A quick read, I finished in a little over an hour. 3 stars.

The last thing Mac wants to do is reconnect with the person who made her life miserable when she was a teenager . . . unless it’s spending time with Ethan Channing, the bride’s older brother—and Mac’s first crush.

My thoughts: I love these weddings of the years novellas and this is one of the best ones this year. I enjoyed getting to know Mac and Ethan and having Mac get to know her high school crush all over again. I also loved how Ethan's sister, Hollis, changed from the mean rich girl that made fun of Mac to a sweetheart who had a lot of love and courage.

LOVE ON A DEADLINE only took a few hours to read, and it was a satisfying read from start to finish. So many novellas feel unfinished, but this one didn't. Plus the characters had enough depth they became "real".

If you like contemporary romances, then pick up a copy of LOVE ON A DEADLINE. You'll be glad you did. 5 stars.

4.16 stars for the collection

Kiss the Bride: Three Summer Love Stories, consists of three individual stories written by three different authors. All three stories are about the various people that help make weddings memorable...the wedding planners, the dance intstructors, and the photographers.

Picture Perfect Love: A June Wedding is written by Melissa McClone. The story is about Jenna Harrison, a wedding photographer known for her beautiful pictures. Jenna can make the bride and groom look perfect, even though her own life is far from it. Jenna was engaged to an attorney, Ashton Vance, the man that broke her heart and blames for for ruining his career in politics. Lately, circumstances have them together quite often, and because of this, they actually begin to form a friendship. She wants to forgive him and finally have that happily ever after they dreamed of having, but the question is will it ever happen?

This is a great story about forgiveness and second chances. The story was a quick read, and had characters that I felt were realistic. I liked Jenna, but had mixed feelings when it came to Ashton. In all reality, I would have preferred to see her with a different guy, but as we all know, we can't always choose who we fall in love with. I did enjoy the friendships she had, and loved the support she received from them. Overall, this was a good story that held my attention throughout. I would give this story a four star rating.

I Hope You Dance: A July Wedding is written by Robin Lee Hatcher. This story is about Grant Nichols and Skye Foster. Grant has a major problem...he is totally lost on the dance floor, but needs to learn how to dance before his friends wedding. Skye is offering free dance lessons to the wedding party, and Grant decides to take her up on the offer.

Although there was actually nothing wrong with this story, I didn't connect with the characters in this story the way I did in the other two. I can't really say why I feel that way...I guess it might just be the fact that this story didn't have the substance of the other two. Once again, this is just my personal opinion, so please don't let that stop you from reading this book. I have read other books by Robin Lee Hatcher, and I usually love them. This one was more of a lukewarm read for me, and because of that, I would give it a three star rating.

Love on a Deadline: An August Wedding Story is written by Kathryn Springer. This story is about MacKenzie Davis, also known as Mac, and her first crush, Ethan Channing. Mac accepts a job at a newspaper in her hometown of Red Leaf, Wisconsin. She will be writing about social events in town, and is asked to cover the wedding of Hollis Channing, her high school nemesis. Hollis made Mac's life hell in high school, so she is dreading this assignment. The only bright side is she will be able to see Ethan again.

All of the stories were a fun read, but my favorite was Love on a Deadline. I liked that it took place in Wisconsin, my home state. Anytime you read a romance novel, the ending is typically predictable. However, in Love on a Deadline, I loved the characters, and especially liked the fact that Hollis grew as a person, and wasn't the bully Mac expected her to still be. The romance between Mac and Ethan was genuine and heartfelt, and loved their journey of getting to know one another all over again. This is a definite five star rating for me.

Overall, this was a great book filled with fun and interesting romances. I enjoyed the selection of stories, and felt they were a good fit for this book. You can read the entire book in one sitting, or if you prefer, one story at a time. Each story took about an hour to read, so that's nice if you just want a quick story. I would recommend this book, and will be looking for more books by these authors.

My Thoughts on the Entire Collection: Overall, this was a delightful collection. Each story was a quick read full of sweet romance and wedding details.

Picture Perfect Love: A June Wedding Story by Melissa McClone

Picture Perfect Love was a smooth read with a great message on what true love really looks like. I was hooked from the very beginning, although I would have appreciated getting the full backstory all at once instead of piece by piece. Aside from that, I found Picture Perfect Love perfectly enjoyable.

I Hope You Dance: A July Wedding Story by Robin Lee Hatcher

I'm sorry to say that I struggled a little more with I Hope You Dance. I had a hard time getting into this story. There was a lot of backstory and the characters seemed to spend more time doing nothing on the page then doing something. It is, however, a quick read for the modern cowboy fan.

Love on a Deadline: An August Wedding Story by Kathryn Springer

Love on a Deadline was one of those endearing stories that you simply swallow whole. Grant and Mac were easy to fall in love with. I felt like I was right at home with the small town setting. There was an unexpected somberness to the story that I felt like took this simple novella to a whole new level and made me appreciate it even more. Love on a Deadline is one of those stories that I think will stick with me for some time.

Rating and Recommendation: It's not always easy to rate a collection of novellas when the stories earn different ratings. I've decided to stick with a 5-star rating simply because the strong stories are really that good. I don't think you'll regret adding this collection to your shelf and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys Contemporary Christian Fiction and those that enjoy a modern wedding story.

I love these year of Weddings novellas! And this was an awesome collection, not a single dud in the bunch! It seemed that I loved each novella more than the last. All three of these authors were new to me and I loved getting to read their work, I will definitely be reading more of their books in the future!

Picture perfect love by Melissa McClone: I loved the photography aspect to this story, and I am a sucker for a second chance love story. The scenes on the ropes course were probably my favorite part!

I hope you dance by Robin Lee Hatcher: I have wanted to read one of this author's books for quite some time now and just never got around to it, but I absolutely adored this novella! I think my favorite scenes were those between Skye and her horses!

Love on a Deadline by Kathryn Springer: This one just may have been my favorite of the three novellas, it was just soooo good! I loved both Mac and Ethan, and the depth to their story was just so awesome!

Overall, I loved every moment of this novella collection and I highly recommend it!
It's a perfect summer read.

These novellas are so good that I can't even begin to pick a favorite.

Jenna and Ashton's story is rooted in forgiveness and trust. Grant and Skye share a love of horses and the outdoors but their difference of opinion on a crucial issue leads to heartache and soul-searching. MacKenzie and Ethan reminisce about their high school days while scrambling to create a dream wedding for his sister.

I enjoyed the focus on the behind the scenes wedding helpers and I'd love to get my hands on the rest of this series!

All three stories are plenty cute and fun, full of funny moments and sweet moments. My favorite was Love on a Deadline though. Something about Mac and Ethan just drew me in and made me swoon over them several times! :) Yet all three are well worth your time. When you're in need of a quick and delightful love story to while away an hour or two, I definitely recommend these novellas!

Picture Perfect Love by Melissa McClone

Jenna Harrison was left at the altar during her wedding rehearsal, devastating her both personally and professionally. With the help of family and friends, she has moved on. Now, two years later, Ashton Vance is back with an apology and asking for a second chance.

I Hope You Dance by Robin Lee Hatcher

Skye Foster has her heart set on marrying a cowboy and having a half dozen babies. Grant Nichols comes from a family of ten brothers and sisters. He’s happy with his life and does not want any kids of his own. Dance lessons bring these two together.

Love On A Deadline by Kathryn Springer

As a teenager, MacKenzie “Mac” Davis had a crush on the star quarterback, Ethan Channing, but he only saw her as a kid sister. Ten years later, they have both returned to their hometown, and he's looking at her differently.

Kiss The Bride is a set of three summer love stories by three different authors. These contemporary romances are part of the Year Of Weddings novella collection. I bought the book for Robin Lee Hatcher's story and enjoyed reading more about Kings Meadow.

I purchased a paperback copy of this book.
