A coup in the Kremlin brings hardliners to power, men determined to take back territories lost with the fall of the Soviet Union. Billions of euros are flowing into Moscow from an unknown source, fueling a secret military buildup.
Director Elizabeth Harker sends the Project team to the Balkans, where the Russian-backed president of Macedonia is suppressing a popular movement threatening to become a revolution. It looks like Moscow is meddling once again in Central Europe. But the reality is not what it appears to be.
Nick, Selena and the team are caught up in a devious plot that takes the world to the brink of nuclear war. Who is funding Moscow's militaristic adventures and why? Can the team find a way to stop a confrontation between Russia and the United States before it starts? The stakes for Nick, Selena, Elizabeth Harker and the world have never been higher. If they fail, civilization will be destroyed.
I like Barbados rum, old, fast motorcycles, playing guitar and books by authors like Michael Connelly, Robert Crais, Alex Berenson, Craig Johnson and Lee Child. I write action/adventure thrillers. WHITE JADE is the first in a series featuring the PROJECT, a small, elite counter-terrorism unit. There are currently 23 books in the series. href="http://www.goodreads.com">ale...
Mr Lukeman brings various strands from previous novels in the series together in this one. AEON, definitely not quite dead and buried as we thought, still trying to wreak havoc and destroy the world in a final act of vengeance; Valentina, Serena's Russian half sister, being deployed to the same places for more or less the same reasons as The Project Team, and Lamont sticking with Nick and Co following his attempt at retirement. The Deception in the title is very apt, as the use of misinformation leads towards global misunderstandings. A very fast paced and readable novel with lots of twists and international action. Quite a few twists and turns are involved, as is a very tense finish. Whatever will he come up with next for his intrepid group?
Deception, betrayal, explosive action. The Presidents covert team The Project, uncovers a plot to dupe Russia to enter a conflict they cannot win against America. A nuclear warhead is launched....High octane action as in all of Lukemans project book series. A fantastic read!!!
"The Russian Deception" by Alex Lukeman is the 11th in his popular "Project" Series. I have enjoyed all of the Project Books, and I have slowed up in my reading of them so I don't run out of the books. Sure as with many action type books, you simply have to suspend credibility a little, and just enjoy the story. If you are looking for a new series to try, I would certainly recommend Lukeman's series. However, I strongly suggest that you begin with the first book so you can appreciate the character development more.
Our two main characters Nick and Selina have finally gotten married and are honeymooning on the islands, when things start to really go wrong and they are called back into action with the Project. "The Russian Deception" leads us right to the brink of WWIII, as in an internal coup, the Russian President Gorovsky (his death attributed to heart failure) is assassinated. However, there seems to be a powerful, mysterious presence behind these happenings. (Thus, it is best to read the series in order, so you can appreciate what is happenings!)
Sure, this story was a tad far-fetched; however, so are many of the action/ adventure books that give so many of us escape and enjoyment, like Fleming's iconic Bond, to Reacher, Jason Bourne, Baldacci's amazing "Camel Club" series and others. So why not just suspend reality for a while, relax, read, and enjoy the ride. That is far more enjoyable to do. I really love this series and recommend it to you.
This excellent addition to the Project series opens with the assassination of the Russian President Gorovsky, his death attributed to heart failure. In Kauai, the honeymooning Nick and Selena Carter get a call from the Project Director Elizabeth Harker ordering them home. It's quickly determined that a coup has taken place and the team is sent to Macedonia as reporters and crew. Once again they follow the breadcrumbs while the enemy seems to know their next move before they do. And WWIII is "just a hair trigger away. "
Alex Lukeman's books keep getting better and better!
Gutenberg is still alive, and the Project team has been sent to question him and then eliminate him. Nothing goes as planned. It is good to see the old team mates back together again. Alex Lukeman takes you on a compelling journey to Gutenberg in Germany and his involvement with the Russians, to a possible World War III. Read this to see what happens. Happy reading! 😊
When it comes to complicated plots, tense edge of your seat drama, wonderfully delineated characters and thrills galore, Alex is a master. His research is deep and geographically astute. Although it is fiction, The Russian Deception comes as a warning to us all about clashing geopolitics (then and now) and the constant need for peacemakers to win over warmongers.
Alex Lukeman continues the series with bad guy vs good guys, and provides another interesting read. His locations are very descriptive, characters are well developed and (most) are likable. He is able to provide emotions which are completely believable, and leaves you waiting for the next book
Such a well written (and researched) book that flows well and is easy to read. Full of action, fast paced and some nice tension in places. SOme nice play on US vs Russia Tensions and the role of Nato, and a couple of characters from previous books written in to an ongoing theme well. My only criticism is that it was a little short - could and should have been 100 pages longer.
It is always nice to meet up with old friends.Nick and Selena are back at it trying to save the world from decimation by the Russians this time. Let us hope they succeed! Jack de Golia was a terrific narrator.I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Russians who want power trying to get land back that was once part of Russia. Fast action while the Op team is there stopping them. Given audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion
This was a cracking read, Cold War in the 21st Century! There has been a coup in Russia and they are planning a great deception to rise to their former glories. This book grew on me more as the story developed. I would however suggest ensuring you read these books in order as one sub-plot in this book would have provided a big spoiler to the previous book. I do love how these books are put together and great to see a large part of the story take place in lesser known countries , Macedonia and Albania. Do give this series a try, at the last time of checking book 1 is still free on Amazon.
Nick and Selina are honeymooning on the islands and crew are resting up after a stress few months. When things start looking funny to Director Harker. So the Director pulls in her team and sends them out to investigate only to find things are worse and not what they appear, but when are they ever. By the time they figure out the whole plan will it be to late to stop nuclear world destruction, or will Selina's Russian 1/2 sister spy help out, to save her country as well?
Alex Lukeman is a mastermind of writing these awesome books. They are action packed, suspenseful, and keep you reading well past your bedtime or in my case since I had the audiobook with the awesome narrator Jack de Golia kept me listening well past my bedtime and time to go in the house and at work and and and. Mr. Lukeman writes of all these cool things happening, Mr. de Golia makes you feel as if you are there experiencing them. They are a awesome duo I hope stay together for a long time. Please Please Please I really enjoy being part of The Project.
The Russian Deception is the latest book in the Project series. The Project is a very secretive group within the U.S. government. They are called in when no one else can do the job.
The Russian president has been killed and another seizes power. Egged on by the false promise that NATO will no respond to their invasion and absorption of the countries they had lost, they begin their attack.
Selena and her Russian sister meet for the 1st time. Valentina comes to the rescue of her sister. An enemy thought dead has his sights set on destroying the Project team.
I love the project series. With Nick, Selena,Ronnie and Lamont, this new mission was ordinary for them. Save the world. Stop a war but this time led Selena meeting her sister face to face. A major page Turner and it leaves the reader wanting more and wondering what the next story will bring. Love it. Lineman never disappoints.
This book, number 11 in the series wasn't as good as,previous books, it dragged on in the middle and jumped around with too many people. Still I do look forward to the next chapter in the Projects lives.
An interesting and a good read. A lot of what this author writes about is fiction, but the reader can see where it could very easily be real. Again, the team is tasked to find a person or persons who wants to control the world. In this case, it's an old foe, who is still trying to control things, only this time, with revenge on his mind. There is another twist that keeps the reader wanting more. This time, you wonder, what will happen to the team. Looking forward to reading the next installment.
