I was told off as a child for making up stories—little did I know that one day I’d earn my living by writing them!

To the horror of my parents, I left school at sixteen and held a bewildering variety of jobs: I was a London DJ (in the now-trendy Primrose Hill), a decorator and a singer. After that I became a cook, a photographer and, eventually, a nurse. I waitressed in the south of France, drove an ambulance in Australia, saw lots of beautiful sights but could never settle down. Everywhere I went I felt like a square peg—until one day I started writing again and then everything just fell into place. I felt like Cinderella must have when the glass slipper fit!

Today, I have the best job in the world, writing passionate romances for Harlequin. I like writing stories which are sexy and fast-paced, yet packed full of emotion—stories that readers will identify with, laugh and cry along with.

My interests are many and varied—chocolate and music, fresh flowers and bubble baths, films, cooking and trying to keep my home from looking burglarized! Simple pleasures—you can’t beat them!

I live in Winchester, one of the most stunning cities in the world, but don’t take my word for it—come see for yourself! I regularly visit London and Paris. Oh, and I love hearing from my readers all over the world…so I think it’s over to you!

This was certainley not the best offering by this author.I would have prefered more angst to this storyline than what was offered.I love a Russian hero, but this one was "cardboard". The love scenes held absoloutely no passion whatsoever, almost clinical with no sexual tension.
Next up is Saladin's story, hope that is a better one.

Tiny breasted Erin is nervously waiting to marry Chico. He’s gay, and paying her to marry him so that he can work in the UK. Once they’re wed Erin will have the money to afford a small place outside London, where she can get another job and her son Leo can run around in the fresh air and it’ll all be idyllic and lovely. Except for the fact she’s had to commit fraud, and could go to gaol if she’s found out.

Luckily for her, secret baby daddy Dimitri shows up to object to the wedding. They snog. He then takes her somewhere private so he can lecture her about not denying a son his father.

Backstory: Erin worked as Dimitri’s secretary for years. He was big and blond and had sexy sad eyes, so she fell for him. He started drinking and gambling heavily and sleeping with more and more floozies. His bodyguard left as a protest against Dimitri’s lifestyle choices. So one night Erin visited Dimitri’s apartment, but her planned intervention detoured into a seduction on Dimitri’s dining table.

The next morning, he kicks her out and flees to Russia. Ten weeks later she shows up again, this time to tell him she’s pregnant, but Dimitri’s apartment is all grotty with porno stuff and empty bottles of champagne and a naked floosy. Deciding that Dimitri would be a crap father, Erin resigns on the spot and spends the next six or so years being a nobly low income single mother.

Until her sister decides, on the basis of a few fluff pieces, that Dimitri is a changed enough man and should be informed of his paternal responsibilities. I really liked in this book that it was clear choice, and Dimitri needed to do some work on himself. Often, when a heroine decides she’s not telling the father, it seems based on a mistake, and one that’s quickly cleared up. Then the heroine is made to suffer for being too dumb to fact check, which always seems a little unfair. Dimitri’s excesses make him a tarnished hero … but then, so does his great wealth. He hasn’t gained and maintained a fortune by being a nice man.

Like many secret baby daddies, Dimitri has a dark past and a contempt for mothers. Erin’s impatient with his lecture and stands by her choice. She doesn’t cave and give the ‘oh well I guess now you know I’ll do anything you say, please don’t steal my child’ speech, so I immediately liked her. Instead, she tells Dimitri they need to talk through his introduction into Leo’s life in a sensible adult way, particularly because she’s fairly certain he won’t be sticking around once the novelty’s worn off.

Dimitri’s solution is to take her to Jazratan for a few days. She was going on her honeymoon anyway, so why doesn’t she join him in a fictional middle eastern country, while he negotiates to buy an oil well from a sheikh? Sure, why not.

Jazratan sounds like wicker furniture you slouch on while pushing out the funk on your sax. It has a neighbouring kingdom: Qurhah, which sounds like the sub-genre of fiction into which Henry Lawson’s short story ‘The Loaded Dog’ falls. That’s a reference to Australian literature they made us read because for some reason, dogs swallowing dynamite with predictable consequences is the height of classic Australian comedy. I wonder if they still make children read that story? I hope so. I don’t see why I should have been in the last generation to suffer it.

I also wonder whether I’m being culturally insensitive in mocking Kendrick’s fictional middle eastern kingdoms. It’s not intentional – I’m more trying to poke fun at what I’m assuming is her pulling scrabble letters out of a bag approach to naming countries.

Anyway, I have a feeling that Sheikh of Jazratan may have his own book. And that there’s something going on with a hotel chain, because its name came at twice. It wasn’t Chatsfield, so maybe I’m wrong.

After Jazratan, Dimitri whisks Erin and Leo off to Russia, so he can prove that he’s viable father material. I didn’t know this, but outside Moscow, there’s an almost mythical secret gated community of the super-rich. I thought that was London.

Dimitri and Erin continue to misunderstand each other about intimacy, and resist their uncontainable desire for each other. Erin is a skinny brunette with tiny breasts, and isn’t Dimitri’s type at all. But she’s the best he’s ever had. Erin has no basis for comparison, what with being a single mother she hasn’t had the time. True love, even when you’re pretending you don’t believe in it, would seem to suggest she doesn’t need to bother. Dimitri is inevitably going to be the only one to push all her hot buttons.

Kendrick has reduced her typical hero’s god of all he surveys arrogance in Dimitri. And Erin isn’t quite as dazed and worshipful but with a feisty streak as Kendrick’s normal heroines. I do like Kendrick’s over the top stuff, but I really enjoyed this one too.

Wow, this is one of the rare HP books where I felt like the hero was really slimy. I am judging, but it's how I felt. I mean, this dude was pretty sleazy the way he was living his life. While playboy heroes are part and parcel of HP books, he takes it to the next level. I'm not a big fan of keeping paternity from a father without a very good reason, but in this case, I supported Erin's decision 100%. The way she sees him the last time before she walks out out of his life, when she comes to tell him about the baby, eww! It was perhaps fair that she did question whether her decision was to some extent based on her feelings of being rejected by Makarov. I felt for her that she fell in love with him. I'm not sure there was much to love about him. At the end of the book, I think he had realized that a wife and a child was the life he wanted, but his treatment of Erin through the book wasn't what I desire/expect/appreciate in a hero. He never earns my respect. It's sad, because I do love my Russian heroes, but this guy doesn't make my list by a long shot. I liked Erin. I wish she didn't become such a walking bag of hormones for him though. I did like the tidbits about Russian culture that add a lot of depth to the story. I had just found out about dachas just prior to reading this book, and it shows up here as well. Three stars is a tough rating, but hero fails my Litmus test, so there you have it.

I don't even know what to say about this one.

 photo Tony-Stark-Shakes-Head-Iron-Man_zpse76iqzpp.gif

The one good thing I do have to say about it is that the technical aspect of the writing was decent. The plot was well paced and the writing wasn't bad. The downfalls of it was the characters and their development. Dimitri was a straight up asshole. There are sexy dickheads and then there are just dickheads. Dimitri falls straight into the plain ol' dickhead category. I kept waiting for him to be redeemed even a little bit but he never was. That was just his gross personality. That snag made it hard to connect with Erin because I just didn't understand what she saw in him at all.

As for Erin's personality, it wasn't great either. She was basically a doormat. I feel like the author tried to make her out as a strong female lead with her past choices. She left Dimitri's employ and hid a baby from him for her own perfectly good reasons. Those were decisions that tricked you into believing she might have a back bone. But nope, she doesn't. As soon as Dimitri comes back into her life she turns into a spineless jelly fish. She lets him walk all over her, use her and treat her like dirt. All because of his weird mommy issue's.

Christmas at the Castello was just kind of boring. It didn't feel like it had a real issue that the couple needed to work out. It was just a happy, bubbly feel good romance. It was too lovey dovey for my tastes.

Not a bad effort in bringing together two estranged people with a secret child. Dmitri wasn't as likable as Erin. It took him too long to redeem himself, and the explanation for his behavior was at best watery. There was a lot of effort in underlining how different Erin is from his party girls; from her physical appearance to her personality. The narrative was smooth and crisp and kept me interested. There are a few loose ends. For instance, Erin's sister and their relationship after Tara's actions was never really addressed. Overall, a decent read but not one I would re-read.

Claimed for Makarov's Baby was an interesting tale. I received a copy through NetGalley for review. It is the story of Dimitri Makarov who worked many years with Erin as his personal assistant. They had an excellent working relationship and Erin was the best PA he had ever worked with until they made the mistake of having a one-night stand together. Dimitri had been living a hard and fast life, gambling, sleeping with a lot of women and drinking a lot. Erin was a bit in love with him and always worried about his lifestyle, especially the company he kept. Even his own bodyguard disagreed with his way of living on the edge. Erin walked away from their working relationship but later finds out that she is pregnant and because of circumstances that are wildly out of control, Dimitri is unaware that he is a father. He somehow finds out six years later right when Erin is marrying someone else. Dimitri shows up to claim his son and persuade Erin that she is making a mistake. What ensues is a story that explains why Dimitri had been living his life on the edge, how they ended up where they were, with no friendship, working relationship or any semblance of a relationship. I enjoyed the descriptions the reader gets of the brief glimpse of Moscow and the area outside of Moscow. I also enjoyed how their son interacted with others. It all makes for a good, interesting story.

Christmas at the Castello was also included and it was a great novella. It was the story of Dara who is an extraordinary event planner and her husband of three years, Leo. They are visiting the family castle for the holiday and it turns out that Dara is keeping a secret. There is some history here that might seem like the reader is coming into the middle of a story if they have not read the first story that includes Dara and Devlin, Resisting the Sicilian Playboy. Christmas at the Castello takes place 3 years after that story. Dara is extremely busy with her successful events business and traveling with her husband for his business. But, she is also spending a great deal of time at an orphanage that they have donated money to previously, and without her husband's knowledge. Christmas at the Castello is the follow-up to some devastating circumstances from Dara's life that Leo helped her through. It has a great ending and makes it a more satisfying ending to Dara and Devlin's story, though Resisting the Sicilian Playboy did have a good ending.

This was a descent book. I really liked the fact that Dimitri wanted to be a good father once he found out he was a dad.

Erin worked for Dimitri as his secretary. They shared a night of passion. She ended up getting pregnant. She knew her boss never wanted to be dad. Erin did what she thought was right. She quit her job, and moved away without telling Dimitri that she was pregnant. The book starts out years later when he found out he had a son. Erin was seconds away from saying {I DO} . During the wedding, the preacher said, If anyone person present knows of any lawful impediment to this marriage, he or she should declare it now. That part of the ceremony normally is greeted with only silence. For Erin it was greeted by Dimitri's booming voice.

This what SK can do when she gets it all working correctly. A fabulously emotional and credible story with engaging characters, sufficient angst and a beautiful journey to a happy ever after.

It’s interesting that I had just read His Defiant Mistress which was a very similar story. H/H have sex, heroine gets pregnant and hero discovers he’s a father several years later and is determined to play a big role in his son’s life. I found that book very disappointing and didn’t like either Laura or Constantine - the h/H.

This one, however, is brilliant. Dimitri is a jerk to start with, but he’s able to reveal that he’s not all bad and that there is the capacity for emotional growth. He starts as being interesting and as the story moves on, he becomes likeable and I grew to love and understand him.

Erin is a warm, caring woman who will do everything for her son but has a pragmatic, carefully considered attitude towards life in general and to Dimitri in particular. I really loved this couple and was so happy with the way they ended up together. This is a fabulous story with a totally satisfying flow and is beautifully written. Well done SK. 5 stars.

Romance story at its best! It's a definite page turner and better when being curled up on your couch in the evening. Erin is looking for a better life since one night with a handsome, diviner wealthy Russian playboy changed everything. Erin thought she could resist Dimitri, but she couldn't and neither could Dimitri resist Erin. Now she must make a better life for her and her son Leo. If she doesn't keep Leo a secret she might just loose him. Erin decides maybe marrying a friend she doesn't love, but who needs her help will give her a good home for her and her son might be the answer until Dimitri shows up asking questions. Erin wants to run, but now must face what her future holds for her and her son, the one deciding will be Dimitri. Very good romance novel. I highly recommend this book. I won this book for free from the Goodreads Giveaway First Reads.

This story had a surprisingly beginning! The main character was in the process of getting married when her ex boss stopped the wedding and takes her aside to tell her that found out that she gave birth to his son and now he wants to claim his son and her! It is good to see that he has changed and become a better man. Wanted to give more stars but I did not read the attached story.

Boken hade potential med en spännande historia men karaktärerna var platta. Kändes som Dimitri gick från idiot till en okej kille på en sida! Hur gick de till? Det fanns ingen kemi mellan huvudkaraktärerna. 1,5 stjärnor.

I really liked this book because the man's background and troubled past was dark and mysterious. The truth behind why he chose not to love was understandable and was not a far reach. I also like how the female had a strong personality that wasn't easily persuaded by his charms and the sexual attraction they had with each other. This was a really good read!

This is part of the secret fatherhood kind of books. The guy was a hot mess and his PA was in love with him but could not bear the mess he was making of his life. The Hero is uber rich Russian oligarch who was living dangerously and was just not into serious relationships. Plus he was a hottie you just know ladies are everywhere. One night something happened with PA and the boss. Boss regrets it, tries to sweep it under the rug by putting serious distance . You know the drill. PA will quit. She makes a life far from the oligarch. But she has a secret. She has a child that He does not know about. You just know when he finds out he will do anything to claim what is his. The hero in this book is familiar because he happens to be the ex boss of the hero in another book. The story was okay. Enjoyable how the Hero tries to get a grip of his sudden father hood and the feelings he has for the PA. I think they are a good match. The Heroine was truly must have loved Dimitri Makarov because she always looked out for him even when he was in path of destruction phase. She truly cared and loved him.

While the story was predictable, Sharon Kendrick is a better writer than most in this genre. Although the reader knows what to expect, it is interesting to see Dimitri, the Russian billionaire, almost hit rock bottom as he tries to become a better person. Of course, Erin still loves Dimitri but knows how powerful he really is and is cautious. Dimitri succeeds in proving to Erin that he is a better man than he was before. Fantastic scenery and locations helped move the book along towards happily ever after. The surprise was "Christmas at the Castello", a bonus novella, that I liked even more than the main story. As a huge fan of Christmas stories, you will enjoy this sweet 'extra' and another family that finds its way together just in time for the holiday!

I enjoy reading Harlequin Presents sometimes - they are shorter stories so I get to the HEA that much sooner. Tho Erin Turner has kept a secret from Dimitri Makarov it was for some very good reasons, but even she has been contemplating that it might be a good idea to let him in on it - then her hand is forced. I do like that from that point she is very straight forward as to what happened and why she had kept that secret. The story starts in London, includes a visit with a Sheikh and then to Russia. I would have liked a bit more interaction with the cause of 'the secret', but overall enjoyed the story.
The book also contains a short story that appears to be an epilogue to an earlier book by a different author. Tho I hadn't read that story, this one did a good job of catching me up on the storyline. Enjoyed this one too.

This was my first harlequin book so I wasn't sure what to expect. I was entertained on a boring flight by the antics of our heroine and hero. But, not sure I needed the erotic nature of some of the scenes. In fact, I don't think the story needed them either. Guess that's the formula that sells. I did enjoy catching some of the London scenes and the dacha/villa description. Moscow didn't seem to come through as my experience of Russian cities shows.
Christmas at the CASTELLO is a good feeling novella. The back story comes out soon in a full length novel.

I loved this book. I sometimes feel as if the women in books who don't tell the father they have a child aren't doing it for the right reasons but this time it felt believable to me. And I loved the slow build back to the relationship.

I didn't care much for the short story though, it felt completely out of context after the novel and I didn't know the characters. Why would you put that there?

His chance at happiness disappeared without a trace. Dimitri will find her no matter what it takes. Erin sees no other way to leave the past behind. So she escapes all the heartache and tries to move on with her life. I received an ARC of Claimed for Makarov's baby in exchange for an honest review. There was no surprise factor with this story. It was a concept that has been presented before so I knew what to expect.

This is not the worst book by this author.Just passable if you need to relax with something to read.
I'd expect of her, after writing several books about arabs, to at least get some things about them right.
There is a person in the story named Saladin. The problem is, his real arabic name is Salah-al-Din and she ought to know it, not use the westernized version of it.
