A night that starts out as the best night of David’s life goes terribly awry when he and his new fiancé Julie unwittingly wander into dangerous gang territory. When David attempts to help a dying man—and ends up shot in the head—paramedics rush him to the hospital, fearing that they might be too late. But when a brilliant neurologist uses a daring new treatment on David, saving his life and erasing his wounds—it erases his memory, too, and leaves him with amnesia. The gang isn’t about to forget David, however, and will stop at nothing to kill this witness to their crimes. When they attempt to ambush David, he barely escapes and flees into an alley. Just when it seems like he’s about to be shot for the second time, a strange, vagrant-like creature, covered in trash comes to his rescue… Garbageman. Who is he? And why does he want to help David? A fast-paced and thrilling novel about a crime fighter made of the things most people throw away, Garbageman will entertain and delight fans of science fiction, horror stories, and medical thrillers.

This story is in the class of, "superhuman must deal with clouds of bad guys", i.e. set with modern society that includes one element of fantasy. In this case the superhero is, er, a pile of garbage. If nothing else, that is original. At one point, hopelessly outnumbered, our main characters are pursued by a huge number of gangsters and they take refuge, or so they think, in the municipal garbage dump. No escape? What follows is one of the most unusual action scenes I have read. The bad guys are carrying serious firepower, but what is the point of shooting up a heap of trash? The descriptions that follow, while clearly impossible, are highly entertaining. This is the author's first book, and the start has the odd technical defect. There was a sequence of simple sentences of the sort subject, verb, object. The problem is this leads to jerky text. Fortunately, the style picks up, so bear with it for a short period. The author also inserts his emotive comments occasionally, and this is not to be encouraged. The conversations also verge on the cheesy at times. The characters are difficult to describe because the real hero is, er, a pile of trash, but the real people are reasonably realistic. I found the level of description just right for me, and structurally, the story was well-put-together. It was certainly a pleasant non-serious read.
On a good day, while David and his Fiance are having a wonderful dinner together, what seems to be like a banger attack happens and they approach the crime scene. Trying to rescue a wounded victim, David receives a headshot and his Fiance, Jullie gets kidnapped. Still struggling for survival, David his rushed to the hospital and during treatment, a smart neurologist implements a new treatment technique. The treatment works fine on David but leaves him in a poor state where he finds it difficult to recall his past life: Not even his kidnapped girlfriend. It would be a complicated one for the gang if a witness is to be left wandering around the city. On account of this, a reward is set to anyone that can capture him alive or dead. In spite of this, an ambush is set to capture him. David is about to get a second head-shot while wandering around but barely escapes into the alley. But that's not good enough to protect him from the gang. Luckily for him, a strange creature comes to his rescue. Garbage man written by Erick Dean has these in detail. This is a typical story trying to teach us that the good we selflessly do for others directly or indirectly comes back to us.
I was mesmerized from the beginning of Garbageman. It is hard to believe this action-packed, psycho-thriller came about because Erik Dean was doodling during a phone call (I wish I had greatness come from my doodles!). David is a shy man and after five years proposed to his girlfriend, Julie. Little did they know their life would take a major turn for the crazy. They shoot David point blank in the head and left to die. Julie is kidnapped by one of the worse crime lords in the country. An experimental drug used on David makes this a game changer that turns ordinary men into superheroes.
Eric Dean keeps the action coming in Garbageman. I could not put this novel down, so fascinating was the unique plot. I would consider this more of an adult read as some events are sensitive. I was excited to read there is already another novel in this genre from Dean. Looking forward to reading Crytic.
