A charming little book about special forces actions around the world. Seems to be aimed at the juvenile market, but may be robust enough for many adults. Unlike many other books on similar topics, this one has maps and diagrams for almost every episode, so military enthusiasts and wargamers will find this useful for scenario development. We follow the development of modern elite forces like paratroopers and commando/rangers from the 30s into WWII. Then there are the many raids and actions in WWII, then postwar and then airforce and naval special forces. All the stories, if written a bit in the "Boys own" style, are entertaining and informative. A fun and simple read for any level of reader.

Not much to say about this book, except that it was only ok.

Limited details on all of the campaigns was backed up with unsubstantiated conjecture by the author. Howq you could write such a book and limit yourself to no more than 3 to 4 pages on some of the most significant military actions of the 20th century, I do not know.

Definitely a book for those with no knowledge of the military, who get bored of reading anything after 3 pages.
