Wasn’t sure what to think at first but after I began couldn’t stop. It wasn’t the erotic moments that captured me though. It was the story itself and the characters.

We have two people who have fears and don’ t let anyone in. One because of feeling left behind and replaced another because of the actions of her parents. One becomes like stone and the other runs when someone wishes to get close. They live their emotions in horse showing and jumping. this is where they feel safe.

I liked Grant more than Heather I will admit. Grant was tough as stone on the outside but as his feisty witchy sister said he is soft on the inside. He sees the good in people when there is good to be seen. He tries to please others so they aren’t hurt but this has hurt him. He no longer stands up for himself that is until Heather. He trusts her and has a connection to her. She helps him find his voice again. He helps her see that she can open up and that not everyone thinks she is like her parents. Grant doesn’t care what her parents did for it isn’t who she is. this takes awhile for her to see. See that he loves her and wants her. Grant shows Heather who he is on the inside and not what she thinks he is.

Heather is a stubborn, feisty but kind and compassionate woman. She has a problem letting people in. Her and her brother have shut down emotionally due to her dad’s past actions. This has left her alone and distrusting. Her world is her horse’s and trying to beat Grant in that arena. She almost settles for the doctor she works with so that she can have someone but Grant changes this. She is so afraid of making the wrong choice that she runs and allows the voices of her past that told her she was worthless and everyone would walk away to take over. Grant though sticks to her. He doesn’t relent. He is there to support her, care for her and love her. Until she is stupid and tries to push him away.

Miracles though happen and they find each other once more. Grant shows her love and compassion for he is this on the inside. He is kind and caring, patient and wise. One who is there no matter what. this is a erotic, sensual and intimate book about finding the one to open your heart and to trust. A book on finding your voice and yourself and allowing yourself to love and be loved by someone.

The Cover to Covers series by Alexandrea Weis is one of my very favorite series. The books are stand alone with a few characters popping in from other books. I was first introduced to Ms. Weis's writing by reading The Riding Master, which I loved. Her newest book, Rival Seduction, revisits characters from that book. Readers get an update on Rayne and Trent, two of my favorite characters in the series. However, this book focuses on Heather Phillips, who was not in the original book, but is very much like another rider who was not one of my favorite characters in The Riding Master.
In Rival Seduction, Heather's backstory explains her hardened demeanor. Incidents from her past make her feel that she is not cut out for friendships, let alone relationships. When confronted by those possibilities, fighting and running away have always been her go to defenses. The closest relationship Heather has is with her horse. She is a fierce competitor on the horse show circuit, but no matter how well she rides; she is always bested by her rival,, Grant Crowley. They are constantly in competition with each other and seem to have a true hatred of one another inside the show ring, while outside there may be another kind of spark.
Heather is an ER nurse and is being pursued by one of the doctors. After several failed relationships, she seriously considers settling for someone safe, but doesn't spark her soul. When an accident throws Grant headlong into her life, her well ordered world is thrown off its axis. Grant sees through to the woman inside Heather. Realizing that she needs a firmer hand, like a spirited horse, Grant leads Heather in a direction she never knew she needed.
Like all of Ms. Weis's characters, Heather and Grant are well developed and after explaining her past, I decide that Heather wasn't the cold hearted witch I thought she was. Despite his upbringing, Grant is a smart, sexy, down to earth guy, tired of living the life someone else planned out for him. The book is peppered with witty, sexy banter and more than sizzling sex scenes. The plot is well paced and I had difficulty putting it down to deal with real life. Grant and Heather are like oil and water, can they make it work?

I was hired to proofread this novel. The only aspects of the story I influenced were the spelling and grammar. The author was not aware that I would be reviewing the book for the blog. I made that decision because I review every book I read now. If you feel my connection with the book renders my review untrustworthy, so be it, but this is my honest review.

This is the first Alexandrea Weis book I've read that isn't set in New Orleans (I think, there might have been one other one, but I can't remember off the top of my head) and New Orleans still got a shout out. Rival Seduction kind of took me back to my childhood reading The Saddle Club books by Bonnie Bryant. There is a lot of talk of riding, as well there should be because it's part of what the book is about.

This book is very detail oriented. You'll get a complete rundown of exactly what each person looks like, what houses look like inside and out, and even what the jumping courses look like. By about the seventy percent point in the book, I found it a bit tedious, which is actually a bit odd for me because I usually enjoy great attention to detail like that.

One of my favorite aspects of the book was the relationship between Heather and Grant. I like my romances to build up to a relationship between the main characters, especially where there is angst and animosity involved and this book had those in spades.

Overall I give Rival Seduction 4 out of 5 stars because the story gripped me and kept me turning the pages, but felt a little tedious at times.

**** 4 Cranky Stars ****

Heather Phillips is a tough as nails show jumper that will not let anyone stand in her way. Not even her biggest competition Grant Crowley. When an unfortunate events lands Grant in the ER where Heather works as a nurse, these two rivals are forced together in a way neither of them are looking forward to. That is until the forces that be decide otherwise...

This is the first time I have read something by this author. The plot was very unique and I enjoyed all of the characters. It did start out a little slow for me, but 20% or so in it picked up and I was able to devour the rest in one sitting.

This book has a lot of steam too it and not all the vanilla type either. That aspect of the book was enjoyable to me. I liked the sassy nature of the two main characters and enjoyed their banter.

Overall, this is a good light read containing a great plot that will keep you engaged throughout.

I must say I really enjoyed this book. Heather is a tough and determined woman who pushes everyone away emotionally. She has no problems of thinking Grant, her rival on the circuit, is arrogant. But when pushed to spend time together she sees more to him. I must say to read how they interact throughout the whole book was a blast to read. The growth of the characters, the oh so hot sex scenes, and well written story, make for an amazing story.

4.5 stars---RIVAL SEDUCTION is the sixth installment in Alexandrea Weis’s contemporary, adult Cover to Covers erotic romance series. This is ER nurse Heather Phillips, and wealthy Texas cattle rancher Grant Crowley’s storyline. RIVAL SEDUCTION can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty as can all of the installments in Weis’s Cover to Cover series.

Told from dual third person perspectives RIVAL SEDUCTION follows Heather and Grant’s acrimonious relationship on the competitive horse jumping circuit. Heather has continuously placed second to Grant’s first place wins over the season, and with it comes the animosity between winners and losers. Grant’s reputation as a manwhore, both in and out of the bedroom, is the stuff of headlines and gossip news, and Heather wants nothing to do with the man who plays a lead in all of her fantasies and dreams. When Grant is injured while working on the family ranch Heather is hired by Grant’s father Tad as Grant’s personal and private nurse. What ensues is Grant’s pursuit of Heather and the potential of a promise for the future for two people whose history and past lives are filled with heartbreak and betrayal. Grant’s success hides a the broken heart of a young boy whose mother walked away without looking back; Heather’s family history is rife with scandal, addiction, and the fall out of a criminal past.

The relationship between Heather and Grant begins as competitors on the horse jumping circuit wherein Grant continues to best Heather in each successive event. Heather’s anger at her inability to succeed finds our heroine lashing out at friends, family, co-workers, and Grant Crowley. As Grant continues to pursue Heather in the hopes of a sexual relationship, Heather’s past and her personal perception of the events finds our heroine pushing away the people that she loves. At times, Heather comes across as acerbic and angry with a tendency to quickly lash out but her family history finds our heroine on the defensive for something that is out of her control. The $ex scenes are erotic, passionate and seductive. Grant and Heather like to play a little rough in the bedroom.

Rayne Masterson and Trent Newbury (The Riding Master #2) play secondary and supporting roles throughout RIVAL SEDUCTION as Trent is Heather’s ‘riding master’. The addition of this couple adds cohesion to the series by way of familiarity and history. We are introduced to Grant’s father Tad, and Grant’s sister Gigi, as well as Heather’s brother Stewart-a researcher in the cardiology department at Baylor. The characters are relatable, engaging and charismatic. The requisite evil(s) presents itself byway of Grant’s soon to be ex Vanessa; Dr. Ben Eisenberg who pursues Heather for something more permanent; and Heather’s inability to see the potential for a future with Grant.

RIVAL SEDUCTION is a well-paced, engaging and provocative storyline. The characterization provides all of the necessary tools to get up close and personal with Grant and Heather, as well as providing information about the people and places close to their hearts. The storyline conflict follows several paths but the major battle between Grant and Heather is Heather’s inability to let go of the past-a conflict within Heather’s heart and mind. While Grant’s reputation precedes his introduction to the reader, his present actions do not parallel his history with women in the past-we do not ‘see’ his manwhoring ways. The epilogue fast forwards the storyline approximately one year wherein we get a glimpse at Grant and Heather’s future, family and love.

RIVAL SEDUCTION is my favorite COVER TO COVERS installment thus far.

description

Love is worth the effort…

Heather Phillips was tired of coming in second behind Grant Crowley in the show jumping competitions they both enjoyed. Yes, he was rich… and handsome… and talented. That didn’t stop him from being arrogant and totally unappealing.

“My kind?” He closed his eyes. “I know you think me a heartless bastard, Heather, but for the sake of argument, can we try to have a conversation that doesn’t descent into name calling?”
“I make no promises.”

Well, perhaps not entirely unappealing. Thrown together unexpectedly outside of the show ring, Heather begins to see a side of Grant that she thought didn’t exist. Over their mutual love of horses and suddenly-realized attraction to each other, Heather wants to believe a relationship might be possible.

“For the first time, what was on the inside of Grant Crowley was becoming just as appealing as his good looks and tight body.”

This is the second book in the series I’ve read and the stand-alone entry reminded me of how much I enjoyed the first. The love scenes are hot but the story is gentle as Grant and Heather battle their inner demons and family issues in this well-written romance. Heather is independent and isn’t afraid to speak her mind, whether to Grant or his opinionated father. Grant has a lot to be proud of yet there is an inner vulnerability that peaks out once in a while that is almost as appealing as everything else. Together they have to figure out if the attraction they feel is love and worth the effort to let go of old hurts and insecurities.

I love a story that has me laughing and misty in equal measure. Family and love are what it’s all about and this book has both!

“The fire in his eyes scared the cr@p out of her. She knew he was capable of real rage, she had seen it in the show ring, but never had she expected to be in the line of fire. His hands gripped her arms, pulling her against him. His fingers were squeezing into her robe, crushing her flesh.”

4 stars. This book was good, different but good. The story was overall a good read. The characters were fun to read about as well.

Strong willed, independent, and competitive as hell, Heather Phillips isn’t going to let anyone beat her in the show ring … that is until Grant Crowley started taking away her blue ribbons. A wealthy cattle rancher with an attitude and taste for beautiful women, Grant is the only person who ever made Heather feel second best. Yet she is determined to beat him, no matter the cost. I don’t want to give too much away with my review. But I will say it’s a pretty good read. It sucks you in and you don’t want to put it down until it’s over. Heather and Grant are a feisty couple, but I loved reading about their love story!! Good book overall!!

If you love characters who are very head strong, sassy, sexy and even a little sweet then this is the book for you. Heather, has had a lot of things that happened to her and she’s still healing from it. She is against relationships and would rather have fun than commit. I know normally it’s the guys who have that problem but in this…both have commitment issues. Heather and Grant are competitors in horse racing. Grant is always coming in first because Heather refuses to relax and have fun. Even though they fight a lot, they have mad respect for each other and when the two of them get together, they explode!! They actually help each other heal and overcome all their issues to become better people. Heather, regardless of how Grant feels about her, is still closed off and it basically takes his jerk of a father among other things to get her to see how much he really means to her. I loved the sassy attitude from Heather, she put Grant thru hell and back, but it was so worth with how well they worked together. Both of them were able to put aside their differences, fall in love and because of that they became better people. I so enjoyed this book! Granted I kinda got annoyed at Heather but if I was in her shoes I’d probably be the same way. It takes a very special person to open our hearts to love and the possibilities that follow. You have to open your heart in order to be truly happy!

This was my first read by this author I enjoyed it.

Heather-Determined, feisty, sassy and very independent ER Nurse. She rides horses and enjoys having relationships without strings and all the feelings.

Grant-Egotistical, cocky, jerk. He's runs his families cattle ranch and investments. He also rides horses and is ok with living life to do what he has to make his dad happy.

Until they share a kiss. Everything kinda changes. I will admit for me it started kinda slow and I started to catch myself skimming through pages and reading ahead to find out when the pace changes. At first their intimate moments seemed to be missing passion. I didn't feel the connection from Grant. It was almost like he wanted to try and push to see how much she could handle. To me at first when they had sex he almost came off angry. Then all of a sudden he seemed to be more passionate and caring and not so harsh.

The ending of the book was a perfect way to end it!! With just a few things that seem to bother me(not much as I finished and quite enjoyed the book) I'm glad I finished the book and I would read more from this author. I would recommend this book it was a good story with a great story line.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️4 stars⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Rival Seduction gave us a book with a strong female lead Heather that I absolutely loved.. I LOVED having a strong, determined woman, someone who has fears that hold her back but she stands up for herself. Being an ER nurse and a competitive horse jumper at events, Heather is a strong independent woman who won't let men rule her. After a family past has left her scared to open up, she is not opposed to 'sex only' with certain men but no relationships, they are lucky to even get a friendship from her.

Grant Crowley is known as a man whore, had his fair share of woman, set to take over the family ranch he has his eyes set on Heather, but his father has other ideas, can a marriage of convenience stop Grant from going what his after?

I struggled with this book to start with, I found it to be abit over descriptive, but once you got past all that, I enjoyed seeing how Grant was going to break Heather down, if he was going to succeed, as she was so sure of herself. But sometimes we need to change our mindset and realise we aren't our past, we can be happy.

Even though this is part of a series, I never read the other and can be read as a stand alone.

This book had me hooked. I read it in a day. Alexandrea did an amazing job of writing a book many can relate to. Whether it be the reader is afraid to fall in love or show people who they really are.

Heather is a nurse who also show jumps. She has had a difficult life that has caused her to build a fortress around her heart to keep from being hurt. Any time someone gets to close she pushes them away or she runs. She does not believe she can find love. That soon changes when a VIP comes into the emergency room and she is hired to stay with him and make sure he does not over exert himself to soon.

Grant is a cattle rancher who show jumps. He is the heir to the family ranch. His life has been complicated. He loves his family but they are estranged in many ways. He has never fallen in love because the women he has been with often bore him. This has means that he has a reputation that may cause issues. When he finally falls in love there are many obstecles he has to fight through to get her.

Follow Grant and Heather as they fight to gond love they deserve.

Stubborn and arrogant was her first impression of Grant Crowley. Then she looked into his eyes and saw fire and ice. Yep! Heather could fight the attraction all she wanted but this man with just one look, could turn her insides into knots.
'
I love this kind of stories where the alpha male appears to be cold and controlled but is keeping his true soul hidden behind the mask of coldness. Like Heather, it does something to me.

They are both stubborn, holding to their control in fear of being hurt. Although from different experiences, they both have experienced the ultimate betrayal by a parent who would not show weakness or affection.

I read this book in one sitting because I could not put it down. The competition, the attraction, and the passion just oozes from these pages.

I love the directness of the writing. No nonsense but with all the clear description of all the emotions is just for me. This love affair is definitely one to remember!

I really enjoyed this book. I could not put this book down, it took my less than two days to read it. Heather is a strong, competitive woman in and out of the show ring. She is a competitive horse jumper and she has always been number one until Grant shows up. He beats her in every competition and she is determined to beat him. Great is a hot, sexy man who is used to getting what he wants. Heather's day job is a nurse in the emergency room. One day Grant is brought into the ER and Heather is his nurse. After that day things change for them, and they realize the could be great together in and out of the show ring.

This is a great love story. From the moment you see Grant and Heather arguing in the beginning of the story you want them to be together. You hope that Heather can get over her past and work toward a future full of love. This is the first book I read by Alexandrea Weis and I cannot wait to read more of her books.

4 STAR READ!!

Heather is an ER nurse and loves her job, but she absolutely loves riding her horse and competing even more. The only problem that she has is with Grant. Grant keeps beating her out of her blue ribbons and wins, and she wants to beat him so bad. She cannot stand him and thinks that he is arrogant and cocky. She doesn't like to get close to anyone and always pushes people away. Grant is a wealthy cattle rancher and is the heir to his family's ranch who loves to show jump. He has never fallen in love because there is no time for that, until he meets Heather. After an injury brings these two together, they both get to see the different sides of each other. What will happen between these two. Will feelings come in the way for those blue ribbons? Will Heather use Grant's weaknesses to pull ahead?

Well this is the first book i have read of Alexandrea Weis but I am now a fan. This book was just one that drew you in to the point that you were in the story with them . Heather is a nurse , also a show rider with the love of horses , had been competing all her life . Now at her age the one thing she wanted was the blue ribbon only problem is she can never seem to beat the one person she needed to . Grant always out done her and she couldn't stand it but she also didn't like the way she felt every time she was around him . When a accident happens Heather is forced to take care of Grant and she is starting to see him different that how she thought he was . But there was one problem Grants father was trying to get Grant to marry into another cattle family to keep the Crawley's on the top . But can two broken soles be good for each other ?

Heather and Grant's story is so much more than a competitive ride to see who's best..right from the start I could feel sparks flying.
Heather is strong and determined, competitive and independent..or is she? There's another side to her, one she tries to keep hidden but never quite succeed in doing so.
Grant..at the beginning I thought he was too cold and cocky for his own good, but after he ring his story, as well as Heather, I understand better why they are that way.
They both need to protect themselves and at the same time hopeless to stop what's growing between them.
Will Heather fights her demons and see what Grant means to her? Will Grant be able to get through to Heather and many other failed?
A great story!

I really enjoyed this book it was a great read from start too finish.

Meet Heather she is a super tough lady with allot of grit and determination. She has always pushed everyone away emotionally.

Heather has no problems at all except with Grant, her rival on the circuit, he is such an arrogant man. But when fate has other plans and pushes them together to spend time with each other Heather starts to see much more to him than she could have ever thought or imagined.

I Loved how they interact with one another throughout the whole of the book it was amazing too read. And the growth of the characters the way they change was just so beautifully written, and hot hot sex scenes...... they are swoon worthy.

Rival seduction is a lovely sport romance. Story is well written, good plot development. Who would thought that writing about show jumping will bring such good love story. Both characters interesting and well develop. It was nice for a change that heroine had had commitment issues.
I loved the develop of the story their rivalry to explosive romance.
It contains light elements of BDSM.
Great short love story with HEA.

Grant and Heather are competitors in horse jumping and Heather is frustrated that he keeps beating her. When Grant is injured Heather becomes his private nurse their attraction grows. Both have ghosts in their closet, will they be able to overcome them and stay together? Great Read, the characters have lots of depth and the story is wonderful and steamy. I was hooked from beginning to end.

Independent reviewer for Paranormal Romance and Authors That Rock, I was gifted a copy of this book for my review.

Heather keeps coming in second to Grant. She WILL beat him, she just needs to work harder. Grant has an accident and Heather is pulled in to nurse him, but something changes, happens, occurs, that makes Heather see Grant in a totally different light. When things with Grant get serious, can Heather overcome her fears?

This is the first book I've read of Weis' and so the first in this series. But from what I can gather, each book concentrates on different couples, with recurring characters. SO can be read as standalones. I didn't feel I was missing anything, and Heather and Grant's story is complete.

Its a good book, but not, for me, anyway, a great one. Its told ENTIRELY from Heather's POV< and that put it on a point down from the start. I always want to hear from both main characters, you know I do, and I didn't get anything of Grant here. THIS point, and this point alone, is what made me give it 4 stars and not 5.

Don't get me wrong, its well written, with Heather's emotions coming at ya in all the right places. You feel for her, when she realises she has no friends, to talk to, because, that would give them some ammunition for one reason or other. You feel when Grant asks her what he did, and you feel when she gets the news that was given, but not (if you see what I mean!)

I did expect Vanessa to make more a nuisance of herself that she did, though.

I did enjoy it, it was a nice easy read, too long for the tub or lunch break, but still could quite happily be a hangover cure.

Lots of horses, and jumping things, not really my thing, but its told well to make it interesting t none riders like myself. I really did like the way Weis portrayed the relationship between Heather and her horse.

4 stars

Heather is a strong ER nurse who is constantly running from her past. Building walls around her heart, she has shut herself off from men and romance in general. It's just easier that way. Instead, she puts her focus into her horses and jumping them in competitions. Nothing can take away the thrill of winning.

Enter Grant Crowley...

Grant is a sexy cattleman who has a habit of getting under Heather's skin. His confidence is appealing to her, but his rumored way with the ladies he dates keeps her from viewing him as anything but a rival. Not to mention he is always beating her in the horse competitions they enter. Before either Grant or Heather know it, their lives are thrust together and they are forced to confront their rivalry and the chemistry that is building between them.

I really enjoyed Rival Seduction! The last several books I've read have had paranormal elements so it was great to come back to reality, so to speak, and read a book between normal people and the raw emotions that they are going through. The author portrays the emotion and tension in a way that easily grabbed my attention and kept me reading. I felt for both Heather and Grant and the issues they were going through in their separate lives, in addition to the issues they faced when confronted with each other. The sexual scenes sometimes bordered on too rough, but that's just a personal opinion. Sometimes horses aren't the only things that need to be broken before they can reach their true potential. Definitely a HOT read!

For mature 18+ readers only due to sexual content.

I didn't know what to Expect when I started reading this book, yes I'd read the synopsis but was totally surprised when I find out it was about show jumping,
I'd never read anything on this subject for quite a few year,
The story started with 2 rivals Heather Phillips and Grant Crowley, both head strong smart and determined to beat each other in the show ring, the only thing the pair of them had in common was to win the Blue ribbon and come top in the class,
That was until the rich cattle farmer gets trapped by his heard and is rush to the A&E department where Heather Phillips works,
Has. Benefactor of the hospital Tad Crowley wants the VIP treatment for his only son Grant, and picks out Heather to nurse he back to health,
Putting everything aside Heather nurses Grant has much has she's allowed to do, but in that time they get to know more about each other and have lots of thing in common,
With both having bad family pasts, love for there horses, head strong and wanting the same things in the bedroom, they soon become more than rivals,
I will admit when I started this book I thought OMG what the hell, but to be honest I couldn't put it down, it reminded me so much of Jilly Coopers Riders,
And I thoroughly enjoyed it,
With rich Texans, Cattle Ranchers, show jumping and raunchy sex scenes this book had it all, with developed characters, steady pace reading, back biting females and jealous men,
I'll definitely be checking out Alexandria Weis other books,

When Lightning Strikes it's a young adult paranormal book. Julie Marin is a 16 year old girl who has one goal in mind to be the best dancer she can be. She has dedicated all her time and energy to to secure a spot at the Academy. It's a prestigious school for dance in NYC. She works tirelessly to achieve her goal foregoing dating and many other fun activities that most girls her age. She is almost attacked leaving practice one day and then again 2 weeks later at a high school dance. But was saved again this time by a new teacher, Mr.Black, whom she feels a pull towards no matter the inappropriate nature.
Julie doesn't understand why her parents have decided to move move out of the city to a remote island. Citing that the recent attacks have proven that it's just too dangerous to live in the city anymore, her parents along with her twin brother Jamie are whisked to the island that her parents had grown up on. Devastated about not being able to even say a proper goodbye to her friends, Julie lashes out but when it comes time to leave. She doesn't understand why everything is so strange on this island, or why her twin brother James has been pulling away from her.
The storyline is so interesting and page turning you can't put it down.  All of the characters were well-developed and interesting in their own way. Life and love for a 16 year old can be complicated enough as it is but when there are magical forces involved things can get really crazy. *there is a scence where Julie is attacked please be advised*

Heather and Grant are competors in horse racing.
