Reboot?
So just when it looks like Kirkman has used up everything in the cliched bag of tricks, he pulls out the Hail Mary of comic books...Time Travel.

description

This is one of those issues that if I say much of anything, I'll spoil it.
Read it yourself.
I liked it, but I have to say that I'm glad Kirkman wrapped this one up.

I am totally frickin' serious, folks; there are SPOILERS below!

*******

OK, anybody who gets anything spoiled from this now has only themselves to blame.

This volume of Invincible was amazing! Invincible is always great, but this volume? Blow the walls of your house down while you're sitting in it incredible!

The arc is called 'Reboot' so, understandably, a lot of people were concerned that Kirkman and co. were going to do a Big Two and reboot the Invincible universe. I didn't worry; after 120 issues I trust these guys too much for that.

In the aftermath of Robot conquering the Earth, Mark is given the chance to go back in time to directly before he gained his powers and make changes. Who wouldn't be tempted? Especially in the Invincible universe where countless thousands, if not millions have died in various catastrophes that Mark has the ability to prevent if given the gift of foreknowledge.

No brainer, right?

Wrong. Making these changes comes with a price. An absolutely HUGE price that Mark would have to pay if he changed history. He would be saving countless lives but to do so would mean his wife would never fall in love with him and, as a result of that, his daughter would never be born.

Which choice would you make? Do the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the one?

Which choice does Mark make? Well, like I said, it's a no-brainer, right? He's a superhero, after all; commited to doing all he can to protect others...

I'm not going to tell you. That's one spoiler too far. Read the damned book already. If even half of all the Walking Dead fans also picked up this book, Invincible would be the best-selling superhero/science fiction comicbook on the market; a position it well deserves.

I know I'm repeating myself endlessly when it comes to this book but IF YOU ARE A FAN OF SUPERHEROES YOU SHOULD BE READING INVINCIBLE!

It's unfortunate that only a fraction of people who watch and/or read "The Walking Dead" are aware of this title, as this title surpasses "Waking Dead" in almost every aspect (IMO.)

And this is the best volume to date of this stellar series.

If you're at all a superhero fan, do yourself a favor and pick up this title! (But start from the beginning, as the stories continually build on each other and refer backwards to previous storylines/characters.)

Consistently the best long-running superhero comic out there. In this volume, Mark and Eve continuing raising their daughter in space. Halfway through a major turning point in the series occurs.

Shittttt I'm all caught up! I'm both happy and sad. Because now the waiting game begins. Also the fact it's almost over for good (13 more issues) but I still love to be all caught up.

So Mark gets to go back in time and fix his mistakes. He learns a few things, especially about Robot, but this is mostly a what if volume. Not a throw away though, just another big lesson for Mark to learn. Another big change, another choice, and we can't even fully say if it's the right or wrong cause we can never have that choice. It's brave, and I loved it.

The ending catches you off guard a bit and I was like "Oh fucking shit" and now I can't wait for Volume 23, which should be out in March. This series is f'ing amazing. Please, if haven't read it yet begin now!

In a very real way, I think I may have liked this volume better for just the ideas presented, but in the end, it was just too short. Time travel, doing things over with full knowledge of what is to come is very powerful and strange and ... tragic, too.

The choice at the end was freakishly horrible. But if that wasn't enough, the cost... oh the cost...

This volume was all about giving Mark time with his family. They relocated to a new world, with the hopes of leaving Earth's conflict and all Viltrumite threat behind. This volume was about Mark's choice to stand behind Eve and Terra, to be present, to be reliable. Yet, one more intergalactic adventure happens and tragedy ensues.

The volume starts by showing us Earth's conflict between Rex Robot's and the last rebel superheroes standing against him. It's really fast paced and it just puts you right in the middle of the action.
Then, we go back to Talescria, where Mark has taken a new job assisting the Coalition of Planets. Him and Oliver are sent to investigate Thragg's last known location. There's a beautiful moment between the brothers where Mark tells Oliver how he will always care and worry for him. He's the older brother, so it's his job. And I gotta say, I missed those kind of moments SO MUCH. For too long, Mark's life revolved only around Eve and his job as Invincible. Sadly, Nolan, Debbie and especially Oliver where just background characters for Mark's story. But we finally got a bit more between them and it just made me smile.
Of course, in classic Invincible fashion the peace cannot last long.
While in reconaissance in this alien planet, Mark encounters a creature down in some caves. This creature send Mark back in time, precisely the first moment of the entire series.
Reboot?
In this new timeline, Mark has the chance to make better choices. To save thousands of lives by being proactive and taking different decisions.
But he's burden with immense responsiblity. He knows that this cosmic creature is giving him a chance to save lives, but can he sacrifice his present for that? Can he keep on being a selfless hero?

The last few pages of this volume pack a punch, especially the last one. It also drastically changes the scenario for the ending of the whole series.
Gosh, give Mark a break :(

Incredibly amazing! I need the next volume. Being faced with a choice like what Invincible faced... how difficult. How very very difficult.

Mark and his family set out to make the best of it.. on Talescria! Meanwhile Thragg roams free! Boom! Reboot! No joke. What a daring plot twist, but surely it can't be permanent, can it? 8 out of 12 for what could end up being a great story or a very bad deus ex machina!

In this volume, Mark has a chance to go into the past and prevent the many, many terrible events from transpiring - at the cost of his daughter's existence. As a parent, I have to say I'd make the same choice he does.

The perfect reboot?

Back in the day the single issues had a little headline saying: ,,A superhero universe so well constructed it doesn’t need a reboot?“
And the answer to this question is yes. So I dont really understand why they had to do this little reboot thing here. I get that it’s supposed to be a parody of sorts, but I feel like it’s just taking you out of the ongoing story and it doesn’t serve a purpose that couldn’t be achieved with a simple timeskip.
Of course it’s nothing major it’s just three issues that are a fun read in itself so it’s not that bad.

Invincible is the best superhero comic book in the universe.

This are accelerating here as Mark confronts his brother, tries to come to grips with some powerful enemies and problems and holds his relationship to Atom Eve together tenuously. A beautiful page-turner where Thragg is starting to decimate the forces of sanity!

This was a cool volume as we focus on whats happening with earth, heroes opposing rex and losing lives and then coming around and then the stuff with Mark on that world to find Thragg but he gets pulled back in time and relives his life, defeating villains as he knows the future and he defeats them and even stops Omni-Man and goes on a quest to save people but then the beings who sent him ask if he is ready to sacrifice it ...his daughter and all for this life where he can save so many more and he is like no and he gets back to his time and its intriguing the sequence of events that follows and jus shows Mark's love for Terra. Its becoming such a cute arc about a father trying to save his daughter.

Invincible Vol. 22 Reboot? collects issues 121-126 of the series written by Robert Kirkman with art by Ryan Ottley.

Mark and Eve are settling in living on an alien planet and raising their daughter. Thragg has survived his fight with Battle Beast and continues to grow his army. Mark is thrown in to the past to the day he received his powers and is forced to relive his life knowing everything that is going to happen.

This was a fantastic arc that was impossible for me to put down. The reboot was great twist that will set-up a lot of great new avenues to take the end of the book. There are only three volumes left and I really don't know how the book will end. I think the inking got better than last volume but it still doesn't seem to be at the level it used to be.

I still enjoy this comic, but it increasingly feels like just about every possible storyline has already been played out. To send Mark back in time is really just a variation on when he was trapped in another dimension by that mad scientist guy (blanking on the name right now). It is also quite clearly a delaying tactic to keep from getting to the inevitable fight against Thragg. Artwork continues to be topnotch, but I really feel like I'm ready for this title to wrap up.

Feels great to dive into the Invincible universe again after not reading any for a year or more. It's such an easy read with great characters and always an exciting story to delve into. The only complaint I’ve ever had with Invincible is that it moves way to fast, but on the plus side that means you never get bored.

In this volume we see distress caused to Invincible by accidentally going back in time to relive his hero life. It's not all that he dreamt it would be.

Another very nice volume in this excellent comic series. If you are looking for a more adult comic to read and enjoy here it is. Kirkman started here and went on to write the Walking Dead. Very nice read and good art. Try something different and pick up volume 1 today. Very recommended

The hypothetical scenario Reboot proposes is interesting, but it feels like Invincible is really just running out of ways to make Mark suffer. I'm also not entirely convinced a lot of things about this volume work that well. For example, I don't love the way Nolan was treated (it felt like fan service) and the resolution is wrapped up too fast, even if it's logical.

INVINCIBLE at this stage is so much better than where it started and so much better than it has been so many times in between. There were — and still infrequently are — pitfalls in the story.

But I loved at least this volume and believe it should have been longer.

I can't help but feel like this volume exists simply to prepare the reader for the fact that this ending is not going to be puppy dogs and rainbows.

This really felt like a volume buildup volume with a very interesting 'mini-journey'. Although I do feel like Kirkman could've done more with it, it's still good.
The ending was pretty shocking and I'm really interested in where this series is going!

This volume had a very interesting premise - what if you could go back in time to when you were younger, but still had your memories of later years? And what would you be willing to sacrifice in order to make a better world? Multiple characters wrestle with this concept throughout the series, but this volume shows Invincible dealing with this question in an unexpected way.

Personally, I would have preferred if they'd kept this main story line going for at least several more issues before spinning it off in a different directions. But it was a satisfying Invincible story.

This was a very interesting and sad volume. Mark was thrust into the past and when he came back life moved on without him. His daughter isn’t a toddler but approx a 5-6 year old. That was heartbreaking to see Mark’s reaction. Overall the volume was very good. The art was phenomenal and the story is fabulous. I could read this all day.

This was much better , we at least got back to the main pressing matter of earth, but alas the book discarded the idea soon enough, instead we found out why a future in the Allen planet may not be the right option. My major issue was, we spent a whole book dealing with the past event, the payoff to that was good since we start to again see why Mark isn't the purest of heroes but he is deep down just as vulnerable as every human out there

Just 3 more to go now. This series continues to surprise me in every single volume. At this point I can't even count how many times Mark goes away to do something and comes back to find out more time has passed than he realised☠️☠️

4.5/5.

This was cool seeing how Mark played the new timeline differently, although I was a bit disappointed that the weird light creature that caused it wasn’t explained. It also did feel like a bit of a plot convenience to advance the timeline a bit. Still a cool volume though.
