Innovation is no longer a nice luxury to have, it s a prerequisite for survival in today s hyper-competitive global economy and if you don t know how to produce meaningful innovation you will fail, it s that simple. Innovation isn't just about designing a fancy looking new gadget, it s a frame of mind that great innovators use to see, think, and do things differently than the rest of the pack. "Next: Reinventing Your Future Through Innovation" teaches what this type of thinking looks like, as well as how to build an innovation machine from the ground up, and gives leaders or aspiring leaders the tools needed to uncover latent capability, talent, and resources for turning great ideas into commercially viable products and services."
Thanks for taking a minute to get to know a little bit about me. As you might have picked up on, I’m passionate about innovation, sharing and learning. I like to have fun with it and make it useful for you. As you get to know more about my perspective on innovation, you’ll see that it’s both a mindset and a lifestyle; one that I hope you’ll embrace with me!I suppose now I need to spend a little time telling you why I’m qualified to talk to you about this subject and help you with your innovation efforts. I grew up in upstate New York (yes, it’s really cold here in the winter) and it’s also where I attended college. I received a Bachelor of Science in Management and Business from Skidmore College.
From there, I did what many business majors in upstate New York do, I moved to New York City to try and make it big on Wall St. This was my first lesson in the negative effects of following the masses. All told, I spent seven years in financial services in capacities ranging from real estate investment banking to institutional asset management and retail advisory services. They were all great experiences in different ways, I learned a ton and I wouldn’t go back and change any of it, but at the end of the day it wasn’t where I was cut out to be.
At that point I decided it was time for graduate school, so I packed up my things and moved to Virginia Beach to attend Regent University. I completed my MBA there and it’s where I first started learning about innovation. Of course, I had heard the word before, but that was the first time I learned what innovation really is and from there I was hooked!
As I neared the end of my Masters degree, the Dean of the business school offered me a job. I thought to myself, I may never get an opportunity like this again, so I went for it and I’m sure glad I did. In my time at the university, I designed continuing education certificate programs for the professional development of adult learners and I also managed customized corporate training and leadership development programs for organizations ranging from small non-profits to multi-national corporations throughout the United States. During that time I also completed my Doctorate in Strategic Leadership at Regent University.
In the Fall of 2014, I co-founded SBS Strategic Innovations, LLC. It’s a boutique consulting firm serving the needs of small and medium size organizations. I oversee the innovation and leadership development area of the firm. The other partners gave me the title of CEO, but I think that’s because I was late to a teleconference one day. I’m not big on titles, but I love engaging with people and helping them learn and grow, both professionally and personally. That’s why I’m also an adjunct professor for the School of Business and Leadership at Regent University.
In what seems to be a diminishing amount of spare time, I enjoy spending time with friends and family, traveling and exploring new places, writing (yes, more of it) and a good round of golf.
Now I want to learn about you! So let’s connect. I’d love for you to share your story, learn what brought you to this site in the first place and of course, help you in any way that I can. It’s time to find a better way forward and make innovation the next great tool in your skill set. Are you ready to join me?
