Starting your new life is fun when your best friend is trotting by your side. All alone except for her loyal mutt Lupin, 18-year-old Suguri moves from the countryside to the big city to find a career and a new life! In her first job at a pet store, she meets an assortment of quirky dogs and even stranger owners!
Suguri bears witness to the full circle of life when she deals with the sad reality of a young puppy passing away, as well as the glorious birth of a litter of corgis! Meanwhile, a photo-op at the Woofles pet shop brings out all the regular customers and their dogs in full costume!
I really like this series for all the different dogs. I feel like I learn something new about canines in each volume.
Art-wise; I like all the dogs and each character is well-defined and different. I don't like the panty shots though. I think they're pretty unnecessary fan service.
Plot-wise: There's a few jokes here and there and Suguri is always a bit over dramatic. The reserved closed-off Minoru has been introduced, but I think his story line is a bit under-developed. I hope he comes back and we're allowed to explain his story some more. I'm tired of Suguri's innocence being sexuaized and sometimes her cutesy innocence can be annoying. I love the dogs though,so I'm going to continue the series.
Inubaka is Volume 9 of a series of Magna graphic novels. The author and art is by Yukiya Sakuragi. The story line provides accurate information on dogs and the breeding of dogs. In the story the reader is witness to the full circle of life through the birth of puppies and later death. The information was intertwined with a story about a young girl who is sent to a breeding farm to learn all she can about dogs. My daughter who is very interested in dogs read it in one sitting. The topic is appropriate for pre-teens. There is drama, adventure and comedy throughout the book. The art is comical, and sometimes a bit racy, I thought.
This is definitely one of the cutest in the series, yet also the saddest. Suguri goes to work at at breeders at the insistence of Teppei. There she learns about birth, death and where the puppies actually come from that they sell at Woofles.
I really liked the Bernese Mountain dogs and the Corgi's. But the death of No. 8-chan had me tearing up. I couldn't imagine taking care of puppies and having one die on me. The author depicted Suguri's saddness perfectly. Can't wait to read the next one!

Still Crazy for Dogs! In this installment, Suguri gets dropped off at a dog breeders so she can experience where the puppies from Woofles Pet Shop come from. There, she is floored by a good looking guy about her age who has no interest in people - only dogs. I can't blame him, as he looks after Great Pyrenees and Bernese Mountain dogs - so cute. It turns out he has a checkered past, much like Suguri, in which a dog saved his life.
In this volume Suguri goes to a ranch where they are breading puppies. She learns how the ranch is operator. She meets a new guy Minoru that works on the ranch. At first these two don't get along but as time goes on she finds out more about him and how he cares for the dogs.
Also in the last chapter Woofles has a phot-op for all of the regular customers and their dogs.
Interesting book! Loved how Suguri got to see what goes on when puppies are born and how to take care of them. I work at a pet store too, how come I don't get to do stuff like that? Beats dealing with customers! ;)
