"JANG, CHIEF OF THE DANI" is the sequel to "Jang of the Dani" and continues the story of a young man growing up in the remote Baliem Valley in western New Guinea. Jang's father has joined the 'Freedom Fighters' who are trying to gain independence from Indonesia, leaving Jang to rule as chief of the Dani tribes. Foreigners are influencing his valley and Jang seeks to discover what he can learn from them and how his people might benefit from the contact without losing the best aspects of their own culture. He travels to Australia to study the language, customs and lifestyle then returns to the Baliem with a vision of guiding his people to a better life.
