Dragon Lore #2

To Love a Highland Dragon

Rate this book
A dragon shifter stirs and wakens in a cave beneath Inverness, deep in the Scottish Highlands. The cave’s the same and his hoard intact, yet something’s badly amiss. Determined to set whatever’s gone wrong to rights, Lachlan Moncrieffe ventures above ground—and wishes he hadn’t. His castle’s gone, replaced by ungainly row houses. Men aren’t wearing plaids, and women scarcely wear anything at all, particularly the woman who accosts him with unseemly banter. What manner of wench is she to dress so provocatively?

In Inverness for a year on a psychiatry fellowship, Dr. Maggie Hibbins watches an oddly dressed man pick his way out of a heather and gorse thicket. Even though it runs counter to her better judgment, she teases him about his strange attire. He looks so lost—and so unbelievably, knock-out gorgeous —she takes a chance and stands him a meal. Lachlan’s shock when he picks up a local newspaper at a pub is so palpable, Maggie jumps in with both feet.

She knew something was off, but the hard-to-accept truth bashes gaping holes in her equilibrium. He looks odd, sounds odd, acts odd because he’s a refugee from another era. Her half-baked seduction scheme takes a hike, but her carefully constructed life is still about to change forever. Born of powerful witches, Maggie runs headlong into the myth and magic that are her birthright.

My Rating: ★★★★
VERY GOOD: The characteristics of a 4 star book include: a great story; I loved the characters; and there was an interesting plot and unique story elements; there may have been a few odd things kept the story from being amazing. I would read it again and I would recommend it to a friend.
This book was provided by the author for an honest review.

My Thoughts:
To Love a Highland Dragon was a mix of two of my favorite fiction elements — hunky Higlanders and shapeshifters, specifically dragon shifters. The story opens with Kheladin the dragon waking from a very long slumber. Not knowing how long he's slept, he shakes off the vestiges of his slumber, and, in doing so, is surprised to see a vast amount of molted scales fly off his body, proving that he has been asleep for years. Roused by the dragon's movements, his human bond mate, Lachlan Moncrieffe, laird of Clan Moncrieffe, is fully awakened. In an effort to figure out the way of things, Kheladin cedes power to Lachlan, allowing his human form to take shape. As he explores, Lachlan quickly discovers that he is not in the "when" he left when he first entered his slumbered. His castle is missing, replaced by row houses, and his new surroundings are totally unfamiliar. Lachlan encounters a sassy spitfire, Dr. Maggie Hibbins, almost immediately after departing the cave. A seemingly serendipitous encounter turns out to be much more because fate has orchestrated the couple's introduction. Lachlan and Maggie quickly discover their unbridled attraction for one another. But, ominous forces seek to destroy their relationship before it even has a chance to begin.

I really enjoyed this story because it brings together many unlikely characters — gods, goddesses, witches, and dragons — and artfully meshes myth, legend, and fantasy, creating a highly enjoyable tale.

I absolutely adored Lachlan, Maggie, and even Kheladin. Think you've read a dragon shifter story before and they're all the same? Wrong. Gimpel did something in this book that I've never seen done quite in this manner and I really enjoyed it. Most shifter stories have the man/beast combination as one entity with the human being sentient and the beast driving the human's baser emotions and desires. What Gimpel did in this story was much different. Both Lachlan and Kheladin were sentient individuals who formed a mate bond. They each had their own thoughts and opinions and articulated them either verbally or telepathically. Now, you might think that this would make for a confusing story but that just wasn't the case. To Love a Highland Dragon flowed beautifully with each character playing the perfect role. The addition of the gods and goddesses who adapted very human mannerisms and demeanors added another layer of vivid detail to the story. The dragon Rhukon and his cronies, Conner and the Morrigan, provided the much appreciated intensity and drama. To Love a Highland Dragon was definitely not your average girl meets boy...err dragon shifter...and they fall in insta-love and live happily ever after. No, this story was edgy and unique and more than a promising beginning to what I hope will be a new paranormal series for Gimpel. Bravo!

To Love a Highland Dragon quickly became my favorite Ann Gimpel book to date. The characters are fully developed and the relationship between dragon/mage delightful! If you're a fan of Scotland, dragons, or just plain old-fashioned romance, this book is for you!

Somewhere in modern day Scotland a dragon shifter awakens from a deep sleep. His cave is intact and yet things are not as they should be. Many years ago he had agreed to share his life force and body with the mage Lachlan Moncrieffe.Poor Kheladin has somehow slept for over three hundred years and the world is an inhospitable place. Lachlan convinces him that he should take form and seek out answers to their questions. Why did they sleep so long and does their evil adversary Rhukonstill exist in this time.
Lachlan is horrified as he explores the surrounding countryside that so much has changed and by chance is found by Maggie who is spending a year working on a psychiatry fellowship nearby. Her appearance is a shock as this new world allows scantily clad females to roam in public! Even more surprising is her sassiness and confidence, a woman quite unlike any that Lachlan has ever before encountered. Maggie is intrigued by this stranger and feels drawn to him. In an effort to understand him better she offers to get him a meal and tries to unravel this oddity of a man. His dress and behaviour hark back to much earlier times and his reactions awaken suspicions in her that maybe Lachlan is exactly what he appears to be, a man from a different time!
Trusting in her instincts Maggie sets out to help Lachlan. Their mutual attraction is off the charts but Maggie is a woman who has always guarded her heart. Luckily for Lachlan Maggie comes from a long line of witches and although she tries to deny her heritage her innate instincts prove invaluable. It quickly becomes apparent that Rhukon the fabled black dragon has also survived into this modern time and his actions are affecting the environment . His hatred for Kheladin and the body he shares with Lachlan has not diminished and time is not on their side.
This was completely different to any other dragon shifter book I have ever read. Both Kheladin and Lachlan are separate individuals and truly sentient. They just happen to share a body that through ancient magic can transform them into their true selves. It's not a case of a man with an animal inside ,its truly " one flesh" . Either one or the other appear . I'm sure others may have tried this concept but Ms. Gimpel has succeeded in making it simple to grasp.
Lachlan is one very sexy man! His libido is definitely unquestioned but its his depth of character that springs from the page. His unselfish actions make him a hero to truly drool over and his playful counterpart Kheladin just adds to the mix. I loved the character Maggie as she's full of life and unafraid to stand up for what she believes. She has overcome a harrowing childhood loss and continues to help others.Myriad characters abound. From cantankerous witches to irascible gods this story has it all.
Yet again this talented author has written a book that's a deight to read. The writing flows so easily that it would be a crying shame to miss it.
Definitely recommended!

I LOVE DRAGONS! I have loved dragons before I met Lachlan/Kheladin but they are THE EPITOME of why I love dragons.

I was provided a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

This book is the first in Ann Gimpel's Dragon Lore series. In this first book we meet Lachlan who is a mage and a Scottish Laird - in 1683 he was the Laird of Moncreiffe Castle. As he wakes in modern times, in his dragon form known as Kheladin, he is uncertain as to where and when he is and what exactly is going on above him. As he emerges from his lair in his human form he realizes his castle and all he had known is gone and his first priority is food and personal care. I can't even imagine how hungry and unkempt I would be after sleeping 328 years!!

Fortunately, Lachlan runs into Dr. Maggie Hibbins, who decided to take a walk along this deserted area for the first time ever. Our Maggie is a Psychiatrist who also happens to love the history of the area and quickly realizes that Lachlan may look like a nut but is actually a man out of place and time. She is able to educate Lachlan about the time he is in and get him to understand that changes need to be made his physical appearance and language.

I LOVE DRAGONS! I have loved dragons since long before I met Lachlan/Kheladin but they are THE EPITOME of why I love dragons. In these two you have the combination of two minds and two hearts who chose to work together, to work things out and to even agree to disagree but move forward together.

I quite liked the approach taken in this book towards the Celtic lore. Ann Gimpel was able to integrate the magical and spiritual beliefs and lifestyle that Lachlan/Kheladin had - due to the time they lived in - with the science based , non-magical world we currently exist in. Ann Gimpel managed to honor traditions that may be unknown to most of us by making them a very real part of the life that Lachlan/Kheladin had led in his time before his sleep. The world back then had been very different - fictionally here and in reality as well - and the blending of the past and present to unite the three of them was sensually and respectfully done.

My only complaint - and it is a big one - is that it ended! Before I expected it to. Not with a cliff-hanger but with the simple assurance that whatever was to come they could handle.

This was a true joy to read and as I ponder it for this review I realize how truly well it was written. This book is truly a seamless blending of past, present and future with humans and dragons and gods and witches and mages. The Earth will never be the same.

This was an excellent book! The love and magic felt in every page is just incredable! Ann Gimpel creates a world of adventure and exciting romance that spans time itself. I couldn't put it down from the min I started reading!

Dr. Maggie Hibbins has been in Scotland for a year on a psychiatry fellowship, and the last thing she ever expected to see was a strangely dressed man climbing his way out of the thicket. After spending some time with him though she quickly learns that Lacholn isn't from this time, in fact he is from the 1500's! not only that but he is a dragon shifter and knows that she is a witch. Can she trust the Gods and this new hunk of a man? for it seems that the fate of the world may be in their hands.

Lacholn isn't sure about the world that he has woken up into but one thing is for sure, he is developing a lust for Meggie and he is developing it fast. Locholn knows that he must find a way to make her his own for the fate of the world may rest on it, for it is prophesied that the dragon shifter and the witch will become one and stop the evil that is being unleashed on the world. But can he convince her of his love? and of their fate?

I Loved this book! Ann Gimpel is a wonderful writer and I couldn't put the book down! I loved that it had the Celtic Gods in it as you don't see them in stories often. My favourite was Cerridwen she was so feisty and has always been a favourite of mine among the Celtic gods.

If you haven't read this book I say do so NOW as it is awesome!

I loved To Love a Highland Dragon! It was a wonderful paranormal romance!! The main characters, Lachlan, his dragon Kheladin and Maggie were wonderful and I loved reading about their journey! Lachlan is bound to his dragon Kheladin and they have been ensorcelled for hundreds of years, only to awake and find their destined mate, Maggie. Maggie is a strong, determined and stubborn witch who has sworn off magic because she lost family to it. Lachlan and Maggie's chemistry happened instantly and Maggie was thrown into the world she had protected herself from. I loved all of the aspect that were brought into this story, the dragon, magic, time travel and love. Ann Gimpel's writing was great! I could feel her character's emotions and picture all of the beautiful Scottish scenery as if I were truly there! Thank you for a wonderful story Ann, I look forward to reading more of your work in the future and the next story in this series!

Dragon shifter Lachlan awakens from year 1683 to current times and finds himself embroiled in confusion and finding an ally in psychiatrist Dr. Maggie Hibbins. Maggie knows something is off by the man wearing an ancient kilt and carrying a sword , but her instincts are telling her to help him out. Fending off a threat who was able to defeat him years ago is imperative but protecting Maggie becomes a priority when he decides to claim her as a mate.

Enchanting story, I thought Lachlan was pure male and had chemistry shooting off the page. Maggie is adorable, she is independent and although at times she and Lachlan clash on what they plan to do, they are a perfect match. Highly entertaining.

This book had a mixture of everything, highland warriors, magic, shapeshifters. Dragon shifter Kheladin wakes from a 300 year sleep to modern day Scotland, he merged to become with Lachlan and share their life-force, Kheladin takes oh Lachlan's human form and so the story begins...he meets Maggie a witch, and she sets out to help him. I liked their relationship, it was easy to like her character. I loved Lachlan, he's hot and sexy, they join together to fight against his enemy Rhukon who has also survived into modern Scotland. It's steamy, exciting and interesting and I enjoyed reading it

I'm not giving this one a star rating because I only read 17% of it. Basically, this was a trifecta of Dragons, time travelling and highlanders. It was technically not allowed to be bad. And it wasn't TERRIBLE, it just completely lacked any romantic tension between the two main characters. I wasn't even invested enough to read them bone.

What even is this? Who's life am I living?

I give this one the cone of shame!

What a fabulous imagination Ann must have. I think I'd love to live in her head while she's writing, just to see how she gets her ideas and transforms them into the written word. First, I wanted to read this book because it has to do with dragons. They're sexy as all get out, and I like that more people are writing about them. Maggie is a strong, independent woman who just manages to meet a Scotsman who is merged with a dragon. Lucky girl. She also happens to be a witch, she just denies it. She's a doctor and a scientist, none of that mumbo jumbo for her. Until she meets Lachlan, he's the Scotsman who is sexy as hell and she can't keep her mind off him for more than a few minutes. I loved that Ann used a lot of different lores in creating her story; Celtic Gods, Mages, Witches and Dragons. That's some powerful stuff to be able to tap into. I loved reading this because I couldn't get the sound of a sexy Scotsman talking out of my head everytime Lachlan had something to say. Yeah, I'm a sucker for a Scottish accent. But that does not negate that this was a good book, with very creative uses of existing lore, and great characters. Ann once again has done a great job of sucking me into her world for an afternoon of wonderful adventure.

I reveived a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Ann Gimpel has done it again. She has created another world with interesting characters you not only want to know more about but also want to continue to read future stories featuring them as well as the world. Gimpel’s contemporary settings are always interesting – our world with a little something extra. She usually creates a new mythos for her paranormal beings, and this tale is no exception. This time Gimpel puts her own spin on dragon shifters and deftly incorporates the occasional god and goddess of different pantheons into the plot. This is not your run-of-the-mill dragon shifter.

Filled with humor, To Love a Highland Dragon, quickly draws the reader in and doesn’t let go until the last scene. The chemistry between 600+ year old Lachlan and modern day Maggie sizzles. Lachlan’s struggles to understand and fit into the modern world are adorable, endearing, and make him even more sexy.

This story is a little Rip Van Winkle, a little time travel, some magic, a lot of romance, a little fantasy, and a whole lot of fun. This is a good introduction to this new series, and I can’t wait for book two to come out to see how Maggie, Lachlan, and Kheladin take care of the mess the villains have created. Who is Kheladin? You’ll have to read it to find out.

Ann Gimpel has quickly become a favorite author of mine. If you are new to her books, after reading To Love a Highland Dragon, be sure to check out her Alice’s Alpha shifter ménage, Miranda’s Mate shifter Spec Ops, and visit her post-apocalyptic shifter underground series books Roman’s Gold and Wolf Born . And if you love To Love a Highland Dragon, check out her Earth’s Requiem releasing in Oct 2013 for more dragons, fae, magic, and gods in yet another post-apocalyptic world.

To Love a Highland Dragon
By Ann Gimpel

4/5

In 1683 Lachlan a mage, merged with Dragon Kheldin, they now not only share their life force but also there longevity.
In Kheldins form they take a break in his cave with all his treasures from battling the evil Rhukon, and take a nap, however on waking up Kheldin is shedding scales all over the place as if he has been asleep for a lifetime, they decide the best course of action its to take Lachlan's human form, to venture outside their cave, Lachlan is not in a much better state than Kheldin, he has a grandfather time beard and a massive head of very long hair, and looked like skin and bone.
On venturing out of their cave dress in Lachlan's normal clothes for a 1700's highlander, he looks to where his castle should be and there is no castle just a monstrosity, confused and very aware he has little strength, he convinces Kheldin they must find out what has happened and why every thing looks so strange.
Their shock worsens by the appearance of Maggie, who is dressed in shorts and a top, which in Lachlan day would be beyond scandalous.
Maggie is working in Scotland for a year as a psychiatrist, at first she is not sure what to make of this person in front of her, his dress speech and demeanour is way off, he does not set off any psychiatric alarm bells, so she offers to get him some food, and a tidy up.
They are attracted to each other straight away, Maggie is descended from a long line of witches; however, she turned her back to learning any kind of witchcraft long ago, however what little she has she will use to help him.
There are many twists and turns, Maggie's Gran is a hoot, and just when Maggie things are starting to go to plan Lachlan/Kheldin vanish.
I am not one for spoilers, so that is about as much as a spoiler as I am willing to give.
This is the first book of Ann Gimpels I've read and I've not been disappointed, the characters are very vivid and endearing, I'm usually one that who can see what's coming next, however Ann has really surprised me with her twists and turns, this book was pure heaven to read, had me hooked from the start, I really hope she writes a follow up because these characters are just too good to be only 1 book

**Review written for an originally posted on my blog, Book Bliss.I received a copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased and honest review.**

Review: 5 stars

General: **may have a spoiler not comprehendible just from the book blurb**This book has it all. Steamy romance, a quirky plot line, an original concept and humor to match. I’ve been on a highland dragon kick as of late – who wouldn’t mix that sexy Scottish accent with the beauty of a dragon?- and they just seem to get better as I go. I don’t think I’ve seen a split personality both so well done as well as Lachlan and his other half, Kheladin. First it’s rare and so wonderful that they are one being and not merely the soul of a creature mixed with a man. That was great. But they were distinct beings and it was easy to love them and their offerings to the story. I was fearful of a threesome situation when I realized what was occurring…spoilers…

The writing itself was wonderfully done. Small bits of quirk and humor were slipped in as Lachlan learned our world and it was entertaining. I love when comedy is expertly woven into the general parts of a story. The plot moved forward at a nice pace and the connections made in the story were believable and easy to immerse into the world created.

Characters: Maggie: Maggie was fun and loveable if not a little bit cliche. Bad childhood + stubborn = a survivor. Still a very well written character full of power and spunk- I’m just starting to wish for ad different formula in a heroine because when the heroine is human the formula is limited. She had wonderful chemistry with Lachlan and I do think she was a great match.

Lachlan: Lachlan was adorable and sexy all at once. Watching as he contemplated things in this century was great. He reminded me a little of a prince charming type hero. Very pure and loyal, lacking the dark streak so many heros had and I found it refreshing. Plus he could heat the pages of this book like crazy!

Kheladin: Kheladin was the quirkiness in the story. He was playful at moments that needed it and truly entertaining “side” character. However without his light heartedness I wonder if Lachlan could have been as heroic as he was so I find him essential and not just a random choice.

Today's review is on To Love a Highland Dragon by Ann Gimpel

I love reading Gimpel's books because they always have twists, turns, love, and just enough sex to put you in the mood. Besides that, who doesn't dream of the muscular, gorgeous, hunk of a man that declares their undying love? You know the one. He sparks the flame and keeps it burning all night long. And hey, I'm a therapist so I love the psychological aspects in her books.

After her parents died, Dr. Maggie Hibbins refused to learn magic and develop her witchie skills. At the same time she has pretty much closed herself off to all relationships. Her work at the hospital in Inverness is her life. A life without any romance. That is until she finds Lachlan coming out of a thicket. He's dressed oddly, and in need of a haircut and shave, but she takes pity on him and helps him out. Besides, someone that handsome can't be all that bad.

Lachlan has been under a spell and has been "asleep" for a very long time. He is beyond surprised when he ventures out of the safety of his cave and sees that everything has changed. Men in this era wear long britches instead of plaids, women show far more skin, and he doesn't see any dragons. Kheladin will be very disappointed.

The attraction that Lachlan and Maggie have for each other is strong and instant and Lachlan doesn't want to ever let her go. Even when he is sent back in time at the hands of his adversary. Thank goodness he learns that the dragons have mastered time travel long long ago. It's up to Kheladin to get them back to Maggie.

Fated to be together, Lachlan, Kheladin, and Maggie must defeat their enemy, but not without the help of the Celtic gods and a coven of witches. One of whom is Maggie herself.

Danger, Dragons, Witches, love and sex? Who wouldn't want to read this book?

I just love dragons. They are my like third favorite supernatural being. I know, third, but it’s important hahahaha :) This is a start to a new series, and it’s historical type, with dragons and magic and fun things. And this dragon, he lived a long time ago, and then wakes up in present day time. I thought it was kind of funny. :) Plus he woke up a dragon not a dude. He’s a little lost *giggle*

So Lachlan is a dragon mage, who is scottish, and lived in the 1600s. He’s clueless about time because he didn’t actually live through it all, he just somehow wakes up and it’s today. As he goes out in his human form, he realizes just how much has changed and how different things really are. This is how he meets Dr Maggie. She’s the shrink. First she thinks he’s a total nut job, then realizes that some things aren’t what they always seem. They have a sweet relationship in the end.

There’s a lot of things going on, but mainly we focus on those two, and in Maggie teaching Lachlan about this time, here and now, they are teaching each other about love and relationships, and magic. :) It’s really cool because you have different belief systems between the 1600s and now, and things have evolved, except Lachlan. I mean what a great nap LOL

I thought this was a fun, sweet, and easy read. The writing is great, which I expected, if you’ve ever read anything by Ms Ann. And her romances are always tastefully done. I look forward to more from her and I can’t wait for things to progress with this series! 5 Magically Dragon Delicious PAWS!

I enjoyed To Love a Highland Dragon from the start. The mystery of how the hero ended up hundreds of years in the future intrigued me as well as the instant chemistry between him and the heroine. There was some natural awkwardness between them when they met because of the unusual circumstances, but their backgrounds made it plausible as to how they managed to adapt quickly and move on. With every chapter the mystery and suspense developed further. There aren’t many books that take so many unpredictable twists and turns. I enjoyed that it kept me guessing.

The romance is steamy as well. Lachlan and Maggie hook up in some interesting places and do some wild things that might make more squeamish readers balk, but had me going “hell yeah, that’s hot”! It isn’t all sex and lust, though. There is a good plot and some action mixed throughout. The side characters who help them along the way were a lot of fun as well. Expect cantankerous witchy relatives on Maggie’s side and some naughty Gods on Lachlan’s side. The only thing I felt was a bit off were times where Lachlan used modern terms/expressions he couldn’t have possibly known or picked up so fast. Whenever he said them, it threw me out of the story. Aside from that, though, I really enjoyed this novel and would certainly recommend it to paranormal romance lovers.

I really loved “To Love a Highland Dragon”. What a great paranormal story. Lachlan is a mage and bound to his dragon Kheladin. They have been ensorcelled for hundreds of years, only to awaken hundreds of years later, in a time where everything is different and Lachlan’s castle is no longer there. Entering this new world he meets his mate Maggie. Maggie is a non practicing witch. Loosing her parents made her decide to turn her back on magic. From the moment they meet there is a lot of chemistry between the two. Trusting her gut feelings Maggie decides to help Lachlan because the old evil that managed to ensorcelled Lachlan and Kheladin for so long is still out there and determined to harm them. I loved Kheladin, Lachlan and Maggie. Great characters. This story has it all: shifters, witches, romance, danger, time travel and a hot highlander. The storyline was great and easy to follow with a couple of nice twists and turns to keep you on your toes.

Yeah I love modern day scottland dragon shifter and mage.

Under A spell Lachkan and Khelsdin have spent 329 years asleep. Lachlan is a man of magic that is joined to Khelsdin a dragon. By joining they should live for ever. How they are awake and this new world is not something they are prepared for.
Maggie came from a line of wiches but doesn't use magic. Maggie is a psychiatrist and when she meets Lachlan she knows he needs help. But the attraction they both well is strong.
I LOVE THIS STORY!
It's a must read for a dragon shifter fans!

This is a story that is very unique. The author did a great job coming up with this story and the characters were wonderful. They are both strong willed and don't depend on anyone else. That has to change when they get together and have to fight the evil that is trying to keep them apart.

I liked how a dragon and human can work together and become separate beings. It is so different than any book I have ever read. The author really kept me entertained and I can't wait to read the next one.

Good grief, these are so bad! Every cheesy romance novel cliche in the history of cheesy romance novels packed on every page. I have a headache from rolling my eyes, a toothache from the sickeningly sweet declarations, and whiplash from the speed in which the instalove occurs. Shamelessly moving on to book 3. Sorry, not sorry.

The level of my expectations grew exponentially throughout the novel. The premise was interesting of course but I thought it was going to be just another lovey-dovey paranormal romance...sure there was a dragon or dragon shifter but...I've read enough of these stories to know how they go. Then I started reading and it was good. There was insta-lust but the female main character, Maggie, was a psychiatrist and seemed to have a logical and level head so my expectations soared. Pun intended. The man/dragon had some neanderthalish thoughts but it was to be expected and he did value Maggie's opinions and respected her so...like I said, I was getting more and more excited. They launched themselves into a sexual relationship and, while normally it would annoy me, I kind of glossed over it all because it somehow made sense in the story. But then it went sideways. Just like that. Lachlan gets sent into the past and gets into a small fight with the bad guy (who is supposedly very difficult to vanquish) and wins. In the meantime Maggie is so overcome with grief for Lachlan she pretty much starts forgetting her logical head and becomes dependent on everyone around her. She lets her grandmother dictate everything. Lachlan's dragon (who now has a body of his own outside of the bond with Lachlan) finds a way to get back to the future and the three of them reunite (Lachlan, the dragon and Maggie). Lachlan and Maggie make a lot of sex and...that's it. The end. The bad guys are still alive but who cares? They have to have sex right now. The rest can wait. That's the lackluster ending I received after reading more than 100 pages. Everything is put on hold while they have sex and shout to the skies their love for each other while the dragon, who was part of everything in the beginning including their relationship because Lachlan and the dragon shared the same body, suddenly decides to not be a part of their relationship anymore. I know that was supposed to get the weird voyeuristic/threesome relationship into a more normal thing but it just felt fake, unfair and stupid. Not cool.

A shifter dragon has been under a sleeping curse for nearly 300 years, needless to say his reaction to his castle being gone, cars zooming by, pollution, women who he thinks are dressed like harlots, cell phones and OMG planes, well it's a little overwhelming. Thank goodness the person who first runs into him, takes it all in stride when she sees a gorgeous, but rather strangely dressed, slightly smelly and apparently has a bit of a mental problem, man show up seemingly from the bushes where she's walking by. The questions here is why are they not running in opposite directions, but instead seem to be drawn to each other. Although they seem to like each other physically, they both are leery but are willing to listen to each others stories. They discover they each have not only secrets but powers and they must now work together to stay alive from the evil that is still trying to destroy him. Along the way they meet fascinating people, both family and friends, whose help they'll need. Meanwhile the feelings they have for each other grow and they learn that not even hundreds of years can keep them apart. This is a great love story, filled with funny moments that just happens to involve dragons, witches, both good and bad ones, funny and oh so serious ones. If you read the first book in the series, you'll run into some of the characters in this story. It may seem like I've given a lot of spoilers but I've just given the highlights; you'll have to read to get the full exciting, funny, and so sensual story moments that happen in between my lines. I highly recommend this story to all who love not only highlanders, but dragons, witches, comical scenarios and beautiful, romantic love.

This was mentioned on sale by one of the book blogs I follow, and it has all sorts of stuff that I like involved, so what the heck. Why wouldn't I pick up a romance novel that involves a shapeshifting Scottish laird who's bonded to a dragon and then gets punted to modern times? The book delivered on its promise, and it was a fun read complete with witches and Celtic gods.

I have two complaints. One was that it was a little bit too "insta-love" even as our heroine kept pointing out that while she was definitely in lust with our hero, she wasn't sure about in love, which mitigated but didn't quite fix the issue. Two was that the story wrapped up *super* fast at the end, and I feel like there should've been more to wrap up how it ended and where our hero and heroine were going to end up afterwards. There are other books in the series, so perhaps that is covered in one of them.

Loved the variety and different strong women characters, though it would've been nice to have at least one good male character beyond the hero. Some interesting intersections between modern technology and ancient magic, which were entertaining and clever.

Overall this was a great deal of fun and I enjoyed it. Strong R rating.

I wanted to like this more than I did....

Maggie stumbles across Lachlan, a dragon shifter, when he awakens from a centuries-old sleep. Maggie falls hard for him despite his strange ways; he’s immediately smitten too, recognizing her as his destiny. When Lachlan’s enemies follow him into the present, Maggie must call upon the magic she’s denied all her life to prevent a war between age-old enemies. Can their live survive a war between cosmic adversaries?

Seemed promising early on, but there’s lots of magical mumbo-jumbo and time travel that just gets way caught up in itself and drags the story down. The relationship between Lachlan and his dragon isn’t really fleshed out very well. And then there are the Celtic gods and the witches getting into the mix as well. Just seemed like cramming too much into one not very long story full of implausible escapes made possible by some last-minute spell-casting.

A very disappointing 2 stars.

An exciting series is of destiny, war, dragons, mages, witchcraft, & steaminess!

I highly recommend this series by Ann Gimpel!!
I have just recently found her audiobooks & I quickly became addicted to the tales she weaves. Her worlds are full of action, drama, magic. *Her books are not for the younger crowd as all of them I have bought so far contain many sex scenes.

This series is of destiny, war, dragons, mages, witchcraft, & steaminess all in one. So much to tell & yet I don’t want to ruin it for you. This journey takes us along the travels & battles of many magical beings & their mates across many worlds & dimensions. This was really exciting as the battles became more intense. Loved every bit of it!

The Dragon and Mage , we met in book one, finally wake from their sleep 300 odd years after being ensconced in a cave.
The times and customs had changed. Luckily the first contact, Maggie, was astute enough to understand that she was encountering a time traveler. With her help, and her kinswomen, who were witches, those that had entrapped the two were way laid and Maggie became more than a friend with the time Travellers.
An excellent story and portrayal by the narrator, in the audio form.

DNF at about 50%

I really, really tried... I just don't really care how it ends. Obviously they get the bad guy and live happily ever after, but I wasn't interested in finding out how they got there. Both main characters seemed likable on the surface but didn't have any depth beyond who they were "supposed to be"

Found myself skimming the fight scenes and also the sex scenes... time to put it down.
