A law doesn't work if everyone breaks it. For forty years, New City has been a bastion of order in a fallen world. One crucial law has maintained the peace--it is illegal to place responsibility for the collapse of civilization on any one group. Anyone found guilty of Blaming is branded and stripped of citizenship. But when some unwelcome visitors arrive from across the sea, old wounds break open, and no one is safe from Blame.

The book suffers from a lack of professional quality proofreading. For me, personally, The uncorrected errors cause a mental “stumble” that distracts me frequently. In this age of AI, I think the author and publisher have no excuse for not even using a spell-checker
I didn't want the Righteous Horse to have such a big part of the story. I strongly dislike them. I was sad to see so much division amongst friends/leaders in New City. This book was a bit stressful. Especially Label's storyline.
Started this right after finishing Refugees from the Righteous Horde (Toxic World Book 2) and read it in one day. Really well done with further fleshing out of the characters and revelations about the post-apocalyptic world MacLachlan has created. With the conclusion of this book there are quite a few interesting plot threads going. Accordingly, this reader is truly looking forward to the next novel in the Toxic World series.
