She’s running from a painful past. Can he catch her and help her heal?
Savannah Grace left her hometown after the traumatic death of her young brother ten years ago. Fresh out of high school, she trudged through life under a shroud of guilt and shame. She couldn’t face her family after what she did, and she knew she didn’t deserve happiness.
Quentin Elliott became a paramedic so he could save people. He hadn’t been able to help his high school girlfriend’s brother, but he vowed to prevent as many tragedies as possible. He managed to build a life without Savannah, but he never moved past her.
When Savannah returns to town in hopes of donating bone marrow to her estranged mother, Quentin knows he will only have a short time to help Savannah realize she should stay in Healing Springs. Where she belongs. With him.
Savannah prefers to lace up her running shoes, but Quentin is determined to create a treatment plan to help her settle in for the long haul.
Can a decade of pain be healed with a healthy dose of love? Or will Healing Springs fail to live up to its legendary name?
When not writing, USA Today Bestselling author Amanda Torrey enjoys spending time with her adult kids and her real-life hero. She loves reading, playing in nature/hugging trees, traveling, taking road trips (especially the kind that make everyone around her question her sanity), playing with her puppies, going to the movies, and binge-watching her favorite shows. Amanda is in love with elephants and castles and Scotland, and she is a true believer in happily-ever-after. She bursts into an instant good mood when people are unexpectedly kind or polite, and thinks there's nothing greater than connecting with a stranger through a smile. She loves meeting new people, and especially loves to hear from readers!
This was a quick read. At times the main character annoyed me. She was refusing to be happy all because she still feels bad about something that happened over 10 years ago. Thankfully her ex-boyfriend was able to get her to see that she needed to move on. Unfortunately it took the whole book to get there but the important thing is that they did get there.
Savannah left home after a tragedy involving her young brother. She left Quentin the man of her dreams and didn’t look back until her mother needed her. This was a quick read. It tugged at my heart.
A contemporary romance about second chances and redemption. Savannah returns home after ten years away. Having left home immediately after her brother Brandon's tragic drowning, she is still punishing herself for the murder she feels she committed, still running away.
Now she is back bringing her sole companion, a dog named Rocco. She has returned only to be tested for a possible match to her mother's bone marrow type, but the guilt she feels keeps her at arm's length from the family's love.
Added to that, her old boyfriend Quentin is still around and waiting for her, but now he has a son Joey who is just about the age of Brandon when he died. Sparks are reunited, but at what cost? Can she get over the loss of her baby brother, and get on with her life?
Loved the characters of Quentin and Joey, but not so much Savannah herself. Yes, she was torn up by her role in her brother's death, but she was equally whiny and avoidant (running away from every difficult (and not-so-difficult) issue), never really dealing with any of it until the end when she almost miraculously makes a complete recovery (off-the-cuff speech and all). Yes, redemption and love triumph, but it's a bit too pat.
Loved this book, Savannah left town 10 years ago after the death of her baby brother because she blamed herself, she'd left without a goodbye to anyone. She returns to town to see if she can donate bone marrow to her mother. She literally crashes into her old boyfriend Quinton and the Healing begins. Amanda Torrey writes a fuunny wonderful story that will have you laughing and even shedding a few tears
something about this book pulled at me... whether it was the heartbreak or the hopeful love I am not sure or maybe it was both. Not over You is a sweet second chance romance that will make you laugh and cry. The characters have gone through hell and are trying hard to make it out the other side. I can't ever imagine the pain of feeling guilty of your own family members death for even one second let alone ten years. The torture she put herself through I hope can be healed by the love.
Beautiful :-) Savannah coming home after 10 years. too long. Coming home to help her Mum. lots of memories of her brother who died so young. Then there he is...Quentin. How could she push him out of her mind and now he has a son joey. So much to do so much healing. .can she do it. love this story and so emotional. x
So far this story is annoying.(that was 50% into the story) (Now 100% complete) review I understand the pain and the feeling of blame thinking it's your fault when a love one dies on your watch. But this girl is holding on to this guilt with unrealistic torment to her life. Since her brother has died she thinks she deserves the no life of happiness. This drags on like that all the way to the end. The old flame is a saint to the town, her parents, his son, and her. Where can I get a man like him in this world? The story was boring and I don't recommend.
Not over You is a sweet second chance romance that will make you laugh and cry. The characters have gone through hell and are trying hard to make it out the other side. There is intimacy but most of the sex is fade to black. Every now and then you need to read a book like this to remind you that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and there are good people out there.
I have discovered that this is not my genre of book. I thought the story was overdone and the heroine very annoying. The story wrapped up a bit to quickly. There was also some underdeveloped story lines like the relationship between the heroine and her mother that could have further added to the depth of the story.
More like a 3.5, it was cute and had it's moments where it made me tear up but I kinda knew what was going to happen before it did, there was nothing out of left field. I wish there would have been a moment between her and her mom however
The characters and storyline is so easy to fall in love with. Excellent job it was short but sweet, I even found myself shedding a few tears throughout the book.
Not Over You (Healing Springs, Book 1) by author Amanda Torrey, is a well written book. With the exception of Savannah (aka Savvy), the characters are nicely developed. Savannah was very much a "one-note/one song" character.
Savannah ran away from her home 10 years prior and was only returning to have her bone marrow tested to see if she was a good match for her mother who needed a bone marrow transplant. The reason Savannah ran away was her 8 year brother Brandon drowned at the beach while Savannah was making out with her boyfriend Quentin.
Throughout this story, Savannah persecuted herself for 'causing' Brandon's drowning ... over and over and over, ad nauseum. I do understand people who have been through a life changing event such as a younger sibling dying "on the older sibling's watch" can be and quite often is extremely traumatized. However, in Not Over You, not only did Savannah's beating herself up and declaring she had no right to be happy become maudlin, it almost made me say f*** this and quit reading the book. Only reason I didn't is I don't like to quit on a book, I always hope the book will get better. This one ... had a very slow redemption of both Savannah and the story.
This is a fairly good story of a young woman who can't escape the demons of her past. She still blames herself for the death of her dear sweet baby brother, a victim of a tragic drowning accident. It never was her fault, but she still holds herself accountable. Coming home brings back so many memories. She can't even stand the sight of her ailing mother or her dad. But her mother is dying and desperately needs a match. Savannah is the only option available. She can't fix the past, but she's hoping that allowing the doctors to cut out a piece of herself will somehow lessen the pain.
Grief is hard. Facing the past and making peace with it is hard. Learning to live with the pain is hard. And learning to forgive yourself is probably the hardest of all.
This story takes place in Healing Springs where we meet Savannah Grace and Quentin Elliott. Savannah left her town after the tragic death of her brother while she carries the burden of guilt and shame. Savannah returns years later to donate bone marrow to her estranged mother. Quentin who is now a paramedic, has always had romantic feelings for Savannah and sees her return as a chance to help her heal and convince her to stay in Healing Springs. I really enjoyed this story of healing, forgiveness and rekindling lost love romantic novel.
This book has a good storyline that is full of emotion. While reading the book I was sad, happy and even angry at times. The way the author wrote about the characters is amazing. The characters have depth and issues that will keep you wondering and turning pages. Even though my emotions we all over the place while reading this book I did enjoy it and do recommend. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
A good short read that will only take you a few hours. The main character's constant need to run away from the past, and anything that is slightly negative or reminds her of the past, does get slightly annoying after a while. That said, she does finally overcome that with a little help from a face or two from her past. Not in a rush to read the rest of the series, but I do have a LOT of books on my to-read pile!!
Enjoyed this book very much, I even got a lump in my throat towards the end. I was a bit frustrated with Savannah at times & with her belief that she must be punished and didn't deserve to be happy. Loved her relationship with Rocco the dog and absolutely adored the wonderful Quentin. Who wouldn't fall for him - he was perfect. A good read which, although fairly predictable, kept me up until the early hours. Would read other books by this author as liked her writing style.
This is a story with some sadness, healing, and rediscovery. I did get a bit irritated with Savannah`s solution to all her issues being to run. And I was left curious as to why there was so much distance between Savannah and her mom. But overall, this was am enjoyable read!
Poignant read but i did enjoy it of course. The h was an emotional basket and the H was amazing. He was so strong and dependable even when she kept running away. Quentin was my Hero. I don't think Savannah deserved him but what do I know, Love is one crazy notion. They got their HEA as is common with Romance novels but theirs was super cute. it's been awhile a story affected me like this.
I guess I'm drawn to books where characters aren't blessed with a perfect family. Not Over You is a story of redemption and forgiveness, even when others are withholding it. I wanted to reach into the book and give Savannah a hug! But she had to navigate her own way through her pain and unthinkable tragedy. Another winner from an author I'm growing to love more by each book!
There was very little resolution of 'her issues' in this book. He sought therapy, worked things out, made a life, but she just really never figured things out and I don't feel even at the end they worked things through. HEA and some good moments, but there were far too many relationship grenades in this book for me to really enjoy it.
This book was cute, the story was interesting and sweet. I just couldn’t relate much with the characters. Maybe they lacked more background story, as I wished we had more flashback scenes with Quentin and Savannah as teens. Nonetheless, still a good read.
