Grace Abrahams helps ghosts – particularly those who were murdered. She meets the ghosts at storage locker auctions.
Grace meets Jenny Lorrimer. Jenny was strangled by the lead of her headset. Grace finds out that Jenny was an events planner and she was murdered at a wedding that she’d organised. Grace delves further and discovers two suspects – Jenny’s sister and Jenny’s best friend. A shock discovery leads her down a different route.
I'm an avid fan of mystery stories. I started reading Agatha Christie novels at an early age. My favourite fiction detective is Poirot, I love his fussy ways and his attention to small details. I love the TV series, 'Murder She Wrote' and have watched every episode. I like working out who the killer is, and what the clues are.
I live near Leeds, Yorkshire, which is in the north of England. My two daughters live with me and they are understanding about my passion for mystery shows! I've now discovered 'Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries'.
I've been wanting to write my own mystery stories for years - and now I finally have.
This is a very fun series and one I want to read more of. Grace can see ghosts and helps them discover who murdered them. Grace has a ghost who helps her who has a very dry wit and very colorful language. The story has a strong plot and keeps the reader guessing.
The Death Planner by Gillian Larkin is a great ghost mystery where Grace is helping a ghost solve her murder but this time the ghost and murderer is from this time period. A very good mystery and very exciting because it gets suspenseful and usually her books stay pretty lighthearted. There is still the humor, and lots of twists (that's what keeps me coming back to her books). Love this writer's works. This is one of my favorite books! Love the plot and the ghosts and all the characters she brings to 'life'.
Out of all her books so far, I think this is the one I liked the least. The writing style is still simple and easy to read, which made it a quick read, but Jenny really got on my nerves this time. I just couldn’t handle her—she seemed completely wrapped up in her own world and wasn’t much help to Grace at all. I liked that Jenny was successful and probably a better person while alive, but as a ghost, she just didn’t work for me.
On the positive side, I really enjoyed her sister’s character. She’s such a good person, though maybe a bit too easy to manipulate, which made her interesting to read about.
This enjoyable mystery series with a ghost seeing heroine are fun and easy to read. I enjoy the way the ghosts work with Grace as she struggles with finding out who murdered them. Her brother Frankie always offers some comic relief, and this book was no exception. Grace's abilities to see and talk to the ghosts remain hidden from her brother, but occasionally she shares this information with family members during the course of her investigations. One such gentleman has been lonely, and begins helping Grace with solving the latest mystery. I couldn't help but wish it was someone closer to her own age, and maybe a more personal relationship could develop! Each book starts with a storage unit auction and a ghost in one of the units. The ghosts and their circumstances are all quite different, but Grace doesn't hesitate to help. An unusual idea for a book series that is entertaining and an interesting concept. I look forward to reading more in the series and the newest spin off series that I "sense" is coming!
Although THE DEATH PLANNER is the sixth book in the Storage Locker Ghost series by Gillian Larkin it is my first.
This is one of those nice cozies that could be the perfect choice if you’re looking for a couple of hours of leisurely reading on a warm afternoon or a cold winters night. There’s nothing too heavy to tax your grey cells, this story centers on Grace Abrahams who, with her older brother Frankie, runs a shop whose inventory is largely supplied by items found in storage lockers. The only problem is that merchandise for their shop isn’t the only thing Grace discovers in the lockers. Often she finds the ghosts of previous owners of the goodies who are “attached” to some item that they cherished when they were alive.
In this particular foray, the item is a microphone headpiece and the ghost is that of a young woman named Jenny, who had been murdered several years earlier. As with all cozies there are no vast amounts of blood being spilled or excessive foul language. There are, however, well portrayed characters who interconnect with each other in a tale that grabs your interest from the first chapters. This is a warm, affectionate, and engaging tale that holds your interest to the satisfying final page.
P.S. There is every indication that two of the supporting characters in this book may soon be the featured players in a future series.
I read this book in 3 days (at night in bed) I read every night but this book had me so gripped I couldn't fall asleep so kept reading! Love all of the characters they came to life the more deeper into the story. Excellent writing and perfect for someone like me that loves reading Ghost/Medium/Murder stories.
Kept me captivated to the very end! Well written, fast moving and engaging plot. Although there were many threads, it all comes together in the end. Great character development, very believable. I really enjoyed this story and look forward to reading more by this author.
First I’ve read in this series. I’ve really enjoyed it. It is better written than some I’ve read lately. Very few grammar mistakes. Very good plot and twists. I think you’ll enjoy I did.
A lovely story about a woman who solves murders of the ghosts that she meets. Lighthearted and funny. I did find the writing a little stilted at times. It is a little verbose and errs towards telling rather than showing.
You really are a great story teller. You can hold a persons attention from the beginning to end.It is so entertaining from the start. Thanks for sharing it with me keep them coming.
This was a great read, I did not want to put it down and so managed to start and finish it in a couple of hours. I loved the storyline and felt compassion and empathy with the characters, obviously not with the murderer. I would definitely like to read more books from this series.

In The Death Planner, Grace Abrahams discovers the ghost of party planner, Jenny Lorrimer, among the remains of her office files and equipment in an abandoned storage locker up for auction. Grace bids on and wins the locker much to the chagrin of her brother, Frankie, who believes Grace has wasted her money on worthless junk. Frankie is unable to see ghosts and Grace has never told him about her ability. Jenny is surprised to learn that she is dead and was the victim of an unsolved murder five years earlier. She is tied to this Earth through the headset that she wore constantly in life and was the instrument of her death by strangulation. Grace must help Jenny discover the murderer and resolve the unfinished business involving Elsa, Jenny’s younger sister, in order for her to move along to peace in the afterlife. In the meantime, things are going well for Frankie and Grace with their shop and Frankie has developed quite a reputation and following online with his storage locker auction successes. And what’s more, he may have met the girl of his dreams.
The Death Planner is another of the longer novels in the Storage Ghosts Murder Mystery series. It continues to develop the recurring characters of Grace, Frankie, Pearl, Derek, and Big Bob. There are many more ghosts clamoring for Grace and Pearl’s attention waiting in the wings (not so patiently either) so the potential for many stories to come is established. Although the stories can each stand on their own, I think reading them in the order they were published adds much to the enjoyment of the series.
A cozy mystery, with a lot of spirit. Well, the ghosts of dead people. The story lines are based on the reality TV shows where the contents of storage lockers are sold off at auction. Ms Larkin takes a simple premise - that ghosts are trapped in the lockers when items stored away have been connected to a murder or a crime of some sort. Everything moves along at a good pace, the characters are likeable, even if oh so familiar. There are several red herrings and the real killer and the story behind it are kept well under wraps for a 'grand reveal'. It's a premise that gives scope for many more adventures for Grace Abrahams. There's a place for this type of book on most bookshelves. Perfect if you like an easy read with everything turning out fine in the end.
I got this free on Kindle and was one of my "read on bart" books.
A nice well put together cozy mystery. The idea is rather unique. The main character and her brother buy the contents of storage units to sell at their antique/second hand shop. But her main focus is finding ghosts that sometimes are stuck with objects in the storage locker (death being a reason a locker is up for sale due to lack of payment) and helping them. I could not tell that this was #4 in the series. It stands alone very well. That is rare these days and something I appreciate greatly.
I like her acceptance of her talent and desire to help those that are stuck. Don't really know why she dedicates herself to this but that doesn't matter.
I couldn't put it down and thought I knew who had done it but I was totally wrong right at the end of the book.
Grace buys another storage locker because there's a ghost that needs her help to realise that she's actually dead and who killed her.
Lots of twists and turns and intrigue along the way, great characters with an additional one thrown into the mix and I wonder how they will get along with their new talents of been able to see and hear ghosts especially one that's got a crush on them in following stories.
Recommend this story as it's a great read with down to earth Yorkshire characters
