Well, color me intrigued.
I've had this book on my TBR list for a while now and thanks to Kindle Unlimited, I've finally gotten around to reading it.
I don't believe I've ever read a superhero book before and "Twinepathy" had me smiling with nearly every page. It was such a fun plot and so unique compared to what I typically read. I truly enjoyed this story very much and am so excited about reading the next book! While sometimes it felt just a bit jumpy (I think this is due to the length being short and things happening quickly), there were many charms within the book that added to my enjoyment of the characters and overall plot line with it's first person P.O.V.

No Christian content at all, but it was super clean. Because it isn't technically a Christian book, I will not be reviewing this series on BFCG, but I will share the little bit of content below. But, again, this was probably one of the cleanest books I've ever read while still having some action. Major props to the author.

Content:
Because of secrets, Albany does lie at times but wants to share the truth near the end; Some eye rolling & sarcasm; Words like 'duh', 'dumb', idiot', and 'stupid' are used; Pain, Fighting, & Injuries (barely-above-not-detailed); Mentions of dating & dates;
*Characters have superpowers, it is not said where they come from. Albany & Brooklyn are the only ones in their family with such powers. There is no mentions of spells, curses, or magic-like words.

FTC DISCLOSURE: I received a complimentary copy of this book. A positive review was not required. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.

I’ve been interested in this book for a while, so I jumped at the chance to read a review copy of it. “Unfortunately” it was so good, I gobbled it up in a day and then was forced to realize my review would be nothing but fangirl screaming. (Which is awesome, but not my favorite way to review. ;) ) So I decided to re-read it, this time aloud to one of my teenage sisters.

You guys, we had soooo much fun! :D

This book had a similar feel to some of my favorite superhero movies (Incredibles, Big Hero 6, Spiderverse). It somehow managed to have a lighthearted atmosphere with big stakes and compelling relationships.

Brooklyn and Albany were a great sister duo. My sister and I thought it was cool how they each had their strengths and weaknesses instead of being cliche with one ditzy sister and one grounded one. ;) I loved their loyalty and goofy dynamic, and I especially liked how protective their older brother Denver was. He’s darling, by the way. ;) Also, Brooklyn was a hilariously great narrator.

My favorite side characters were, of course, Blaze (90% humor, 70% capability, 20% cool light effects) and Maddie (#precious), though Data and the others were quite fascinating too.

All the superhero stuff was ammmmaaaazzzing! Most uncliche HQ EVER. O.o. And cool masks and neat codenames and a nerdy, cheesy organization name. *sighs happily*

Just a note, there was some intense action (including a mental battle) and some lying/sneaking around parents (resolved well). Also, there were some single uses of “jerk”, “idiot”, and “dorky”. One superpower that bordered on mind control made me slightly uncomfortable.

Best quotes: Foggy, distant, hurried. British. Yup, I’m in love.

If there’s one thing that I dislike just as much as waiting, it’s not knowing things.

“Well, enough about Anvil. Let’s go find that crazy sister of yours.” He leads the way through the crowd, and I hurry to keep up with him. “She’s not crazy,” I say, weaving between people behind him, trying to keep his back in view. “Of course not,” he calls over his shoulder. “That’s you.”

Altogether, this was a great read! We’ve already started Lightporter. :D

Disclaimer: I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own (although, seriously! This book is awesome! And it's been on my TBR forever, so I'm so happy that I got it for free!!!)

Okay... where to start? I guess I should provide a synopsis...
Albany York has a secret.

Albany and her twin sister, Brooklyn, have spent years successfully hiding their telepathic connection. But when a girl falls unconscious at their doorstep, the girls learn that they might not be the only people in the world with extraordinary powers and that a memory thief is on the loose. As the twins try to help the girl find her memories, they discover that the superhero world might be bigger—and more dangerous—than they ever imagined.

This was a super fun book! I enjoyed every minute of it, and was really happy with the way it ended. Now I'd like book 2, please. ^_^

LIKES:
-Albany! Normally, when writing a first-person protagonist, it's really hard to get much of a unique voice from them (or at least, that's what I've found.) Much of the time, despite the fact that the author claims the voice is different, it's just... not. That was definitely not the case with Twinepathy. Albany was a real, living, breathing character with a very unique and fun voice. I enjoyed reading from her POV, and didn't wish it away a single time.
-Brooklyn. I love how she and Albany loved each other and were really close, even though they also whined about each others' personalities and got annoyed by one another. It felt like a very honest sibling dynamic, which I enjoyed. But Brooklyn was a terrific character!
-Blaze. I didn't love him as much as some people did (based on the other reviews of the book) but he was still pretty awesome. His sense of humor was beyond amazing. (Also, I'd like to know what his real name is. I'm suspicious that it is... Blaze.
-The locations! I felt like they were underused sometimes, but it was so cool that their HQ was in Antarctica (and the explanation for how they stayed warm there! That poor guy!) Trips to London, a beach island, and all over the place were rollicking fun, and I was constantly trying to guess where Blaze would take them next.
-The pacing! The book kept me guessing and reading without being too fast-paced. It was basically perfect.
-Maddie. She was adorable.
-The plot, basically, was amazing.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
-There was a subplot with one of the characters that didn't really feel resolved. Cook is probably saving that for the sequel, but a lot of people were in serious danger during that scene and they just... paid no attention to it later on. (Also: Why is there no sequel yet. I need the sequel. Today, please, if possible. XD)
-Some of the names were just...weird. Like Ezra (who's a girl?) And Keller and Genesis? I was seriously weirded out by a few of the names, although that didn't really tamper my enjoyment of the book.
-Superhero stuff has never been my favorite, although I definitely still enjoy it. So simply because of the genre, it won't become one of my new favorite books.

However! It's so good, and I would 100% recommend! This book is completely clean, and just because I had a few minor quibbles with it does not for one second make it bad. I simply need the next book with more of Albany and Brooklyn and Blaze and Jen. Please, C.B. Cook? *puppy dog eyes*

Telepathic twins are one of my favorite topics, and this book didn't disappoint. I'm only knocking a star because Albany had a habit of putting her nose where it doesn't belong and acting contrary to good authority figures, and that's a literary peeve of mine. It's just me, though, and the only drawback to this awesome book.

3.5 stars. . .

This book was such fun! I don't think I have ever read anything quite like it! If you love superheroes and want something clean, sweet, funny and exciting, this book is for you! I would have rated it 4 stars, but I had to dock half a star simply because there were some grammatical errors smattered through out the enjoyable pages of this book.

The Good:
~ Everyone is fan-girling about Blaze, who is a dear of course. . . but my favorite was Anvil. :D Read the book to find out why. I am sorry, he was just so sweet!
~ The story itself was so fun and such a wild ride that I was having a hard time putting the book down which is saying a lot! I haven't read anything in a while that has been on-the-edge-of-my-seat-I-have-to-finish-this. Frankly, I have missed that feeling and I am thankful to C.B Cook for providing something that fit that criteria!
~ The characters were so unique! Everyone had their own quirks that made them special and it was easy to tell them apart amidst such a rather large cast.
~ The sister relationship was something else I loved. It was so enjoyable and clean without the lame boy-girl stuff that happens a lot in this genre of fiction.

The Quibbles:

~ There were quite a few grammatical errors smattered throughout that could have easily been fixed.
~ The lying was rather prevalent and I don't really feel like Brooklyn had enough of a turn around in that respect.
~ The only other thing is that the main characters are 17, but I felt like they were in the 14-15 age range. They just seemed to act younger to me. Then again, I don't know many average 17 year olds, so I could be wrong. :D

That being said. . . this was a super enjoyable read full of fun, clean adventure that I plan on letting my younger sister read.

Content: some clean violence (aka, no gore or anything like that described, basically just hand to hand combat) and "superpowers" (aka telekinesis, teleportation, and telepathic abilities amongst others.)

I started reading Twinepathy a while ago when C.B. Cook released it as a serial story on her blog (theworldofthewriter.wordpress.com). It has two elements I love: superheroes and secret agents. I knew I would love it. You know what? I did.

The Characters

Each character had a unique personality and superpower. I love how Albany and Brooklyn are twins, but they are very different people. Albany is more of the fangirl and Brooklyn is the "girly-girl".
One thing that I didn't particularly like was that Albany lied a lot. This is key to the story, however, and part of her character arc...so...just be warned that it happens. Blaze is 100% awesome. Period. I may or may not have a speculation of who he might be when he isn't on a mission for IDIA.

Overall, the characters were well developed and I liked them a lot.

The Plot

With so many superhero things flying around in today's society, it can be hard to actually come up with something unique. I assure you, C.B. Cook did. The superpowers were very original (at least, from what I am aware of). And a bad guy stealing people's memories? Very original.

To Sum it Up

I highly recommend Twinepathy!

Twinepathy is a fun, light-hearted, action-packed story about twin sisters (Albany and Brooklyn) who can communicate telepathically. After finding a young girl whose memory appears to have been wiped, the sisters find themselves pulled into an adventure complete with betrayal, superpowers, and spies.

I enjoyed reading Twinepathy . It was a pretty easy read, and I loved the bits of humor sprinkled throughout. All of the superpowers were really cool. The characters were likable and the plot moved quickly. On the downside, I thought there was a little too much telling and not enough showing in places. While I do think Twinepathy could have had a little more in the way of a Christian message, it contained some good themes and there wasn't any questionable content.

Fans of superhero movies and spy novels will enjoy this book!

2.5 stars. Unfortunately, Twinepathy didn't meet my fairly high expectations. It was okay, though.

Likes:

- the sibling relationships: Familial relationships are fun, special, and complex to read about, and the sibling relationship between twin sisters Albany and Brooklyn was no exception, along with their relationship with their older brother Denver. I really enjoyed learning about these characters via their interactions with one another.

- the superpower aspect: The superpowers were not the most original, but they were nonetheless a lot of fun! From telepathy, to telekinesis, to manipulation of electricity, to teleportation - the world of IDIA is full of many various abilities. It was a LOT of fun exploring them in this book!

- how light and bouncy the story felt: This is a "con" just as much as a "pro," actually. It was refreshing to come across a YA book that's the exact opposite of deep and dense - which is much of YA today. It was a little bit jarring, however, because I had heard it was light and fun, but I didn't expect it to feel quite as Middle-Gradey as it did. Again, though... fairly refreshing. :)

Dislikes:

- The characters were rather bland: I have to say that I didn't really grow attached to Albany or any of the characters. :P Albany got on my nerves, Blaze was a little boring, Jen was a tad annoying, Maddie was just kind of THERE, and no one else was super distinct. Except for Anvil, actually. I liked Anvil; he was very interesting. :D

- Some things didn't make sense/were irritatingly unrealistic: I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll just say... some things didn't make sense, and other things were irritatingly unrealistic. Mainly certain characters' decisions, and certain characters' reactions to certain situations.

- The plot was rather unoriginal. I liked how fast it moved, but the plot itself wasn't very distinct. The story's twists weren't necessarily predictable, but they didn't affect me that much. Maybe it's partly because there was a huge mystery element to the plot, and mystery is not my favorite... :P

Although it didn't meet my expectations, Twinepathy is definitely a fun story and I recommend it for when you're looking for a light read that 1) you're willing to not take too seriously, and 2) revolves around superpowers!

A big thank you to the author for giving me a free copy of her book! <3

This one was really fun! Though it did have some writing issues, such as plot holes, logic problems, and iffy characterization, it was very entertaining and kept my curiosity. A solid 3.5 stars.

What I liked:
1. Blaze. C'mon, how can you not like him?
2. Superpowers. 'Nuff said. But really, there was a good variety of different kinds of powers. Very creative uses of those powers as well--a lot of them I wouldn't have thought of. I wish some had been better explained (like Anvil's), but maybe the next book will clear some things up.
3. IDIA. I found it interesting how it was set up in a hierarchy of sorts. I'd like to learn some of the backstory of how it got set up.
4. The narration. This was kind of a mixed bag for me, as sometimes I enjoyed Albany's narration, and other times it got annoying. However, I liked it more than I didn't, so I'm putting it under the "like" category.

What I didn't like:
1. Lack of information and/or explanation. I NEED ANSWERS! Ahem--please?
2. Denver's character. He just seemed to behave kind of oddly for an older brother.
3. All the lying. I really wish they would have just told the parents the truth in the first place. And they didn't seem to have a whole lot of problems with lying, either.
4.
5.

Wrap up: While I did have some issues with the writing quality and content, I found the book to be very entertaining on the whole. I'm looking forward to reading the next addition in the series--Lightporter--and I'm hoping that it will give me some answers to the many, many questions I have after reading Twinepathy.

Rating: 3.5 stars.

Recommended: Yes. Ages 8 and up.

Content guide:
Language: 0/10
Sexual Content: 0/10
Violence: 6/10 (battle--both good guys and bad guys die. little value placed on human life. some injuries--non-graphic.)

~4.5 Stars~

Twinepathy is the first book I have read with any sort of superheroes or anything like that, so I wasn't quite sure what to think! Well, I shouldn't have worried! The plot was original, and every twist kept me wondering what would happen next. I mean, London? Antarctica? Yeah, I was so not expecting that!!
The characters were amazing. Albany, Brooklyn, Denver. (Can I just say that I love the idea of having the city name theme?!?! It was awesome!)
I think Denver was my favorite character. He wasn't really a main character, but I loved his concern for his sisters and Ezra! And he was just so sweet.
And Blaze and Jen. I can't wait to learn more about their past! They were both intriguing characters, and I'm really looking forward to learning more about them. (Perhaps in the next book? :))
The settings were amazing. America, London, Antarctica. Lots of traveling, which was so much fun!
So yeah. I really enjoyed it! Seeing the characters as they reacted to everything that was happening, and then wondering how everything would turn out definitely kept me turning that pages!
The only thing I didn't like was how Albany was always trying to do things behind the backs of her parents, and even Denver and Jen. I get that she was curious, but it just seemed like it was never really corrected. She got a lecture from Jen toward the end, but that was pretty much all.
That was literally my only drawback on the book. Everything else was awesome, and it's definitely a book I'd recommend!

Thank you C.B. Cook for the opportunity to read your book. This was an intriguing read. I really liked the concept of a superhero agency known as the IDIA, along with twin girls who are telepathic and can enter other people's minds. It is really cool and interesting. The story was great. There was action, surprises, and great characters. I really liked the characters and their character developments. I hope we learn more about each character as the series goes on. The ending was a bit of a cliffhanger. It makes me want to the second book even more. I can't wait to read the second book. I hope the series gets better and better. Overall, a great read.

I finished this in one day (thank you, Christmas break)-which I haven't done in a looong time. And there hasn't been that many books that I've read lately that were good enough to read in one day. But this one is.
I'm a huge fan of Marvel, so this superhero book was right up my alley. I loved the whole thing! Albany and Blaze were hands down my favorite characters. I must get my hands on book two (or wait...there's a 1.5 I think) before I bust!

Re-read. Had a blast. ^_^

2019

Reread August 2019, aloud. SO FUN.

Original review (2016)

(Review originally posted on The Road of a Writer: https://deborahocarroll.wordpress.com...)

Things I don't often read include contemporary novels, superhero tales (this may be my first? O_O), and first-person-present-tense (which normally I loathe but in this case I quickly got used to and forgot about). But while Twinepathy had all of those things, I greatly enjoyed it! :)

A few overall thoughts and then I'll do the rest of the review in list form (because lists are obviously the best).

It was exciting, gripping, and I couldn't put it down (I read the whole thing in two days). It's a fairly quick read, and feels in a way sort of like the pilot episode of a TV show -- an awesome, well-put-together intro, with more to come. Its own contained story, but also introducing a lot of things which will continue... I might have wished to get deeper into some of the characters and goings-on, but the quick feeling of the story lines up with the episodic feel, so that just makes me eager for more books. ;)

Okay, lists!

Things I LOVED:

+ Mostly, I really enjoyed how FUN this book was. There are obviously some more exciting/deep bits too, but overall the feel is very lighthearted and just a fun romp. The characters and banter were some of my favorites, and there's jokes and camaraderie and fun dialog and bickering. I just ENJOYED this book a lot. FUNNN.
+ The superpowers, which were SO cool. Telepathy, teleportation... I won't give them all away here, since part of the joy of the story is running into all these fun, awesome superpowers, but I really enjoyed all the superpowers. They were soooo enjoyable to read about and felt original and fresh to me. :) (Admittedly I haven't read anything like this before. But I loved them. :D)
+ The plot. It's a mystery involving a MEMORY THIEF. Need I say more?
+ ALL THE HINTS. Seriously, I'm soooo curious about so many things! There were so many hints at different plot things and characters and their backstories... I'm just really curious to find out more about all of it! I NEEEED more books ASAP. :D
+ The settings. America, a touch of London, and Antarctica! I mean, how cool is Antarctica?? (Pretty cool, considering the temperature... but I digress.) Popping to a couple different places around the world a time or two was great fun and gave it an extra exciting aura.
+ COOKIES! That is all. (I need the recipe of a certain super-awesome agent's cookies. *cough*) I mean seriously, it's so fun that they're running around doing superhero stuff and take time to make and/or eat cookies. Somebody has their priorities in order. *nods*
+ Real life + superpowers. I appreciate how Albany and Brooklyn had to work in their adventures around school and family and having to get home to eat dinner (props for actual meals happening!). They're just normal teenagers (haha, okay, so not really; but you know what I mean) and have to fit life and crazy superpower stuff together, and that feels realistic. ;)
+ It felt really vivid and colorful. Like, I could see everything SO clearly. It just has this bright feel that I absolutely loved.
+ It's clean and enjoyable and lacks the annoyances I have with many contemporary books.
+ The writing. The writing was quick and quippy and occasionally there would be some line that I giggled at the fun of it, or grinned over its cleverness.

Character run-down: (Yay! This cast is a rollick. :D)

+ Albany & Brooklyn are twins, which gives them automatic awesome-points. Albany is the "I" of the story, since she narrates it. She and I did not always get along, but overall I liked her. Brooklyn is so nice and sometimes ended up a little more in the background but I really liked her too. Twins, guys. TWINS. Yesss. These two are fun to read about, especially their telepathic connection. :D
+ Maddie is cute and such a sweet thing, the poor darling. I love her muchly.
+ Jen is so intriguing... I occasionally felt unsure of her, since some of her authority-figure part of the story brought her dangerously close to the edge where I could have ended up disliking her... but that never happened because she's super (haha, see what I did there?) interesting and I'm so curious about her! Jen's basically really cool.
+ Denver was really grumpy at first but he grew on me. XD
+ Ezra's name startled me because I'm used to that being a boy's name. Whoops. But she was neat, and I love seeing a girl hacker! That was new.
+ I'm not sure what I think of Keller... Hmm. She's a tough cookie, that one.
+ Finch was cool too. I felt kinda bad for him... Poor lad.
+ Anvil. (Saving the best for last here...) ANVIL IS A PRECIOUS BURNT MARSHMALLOW AND THE BEST AND NEEDS HIS OWN BOOK. THAT IS ALL. (Seriously, Anvil is AWESOME and I wish he'd been in it more. I definitely want to see more of him. But I will say no more concerning this possible favorite or at least tying-for-favorite character of mine lest I spoil the story. *nods* I love Anvil though. <3)
+ Blaze gets to go last of all because oh boy, he's going to get a long point on this list! He's fun and charming and I LOVE his superpowers. As I said while I was reading it, a cocky teleporter bringing donuts? Yep, I like this guy. Not to mention his other superpower... >:D He has a generally cheerful nature, like an excitable puppy, but he also has a secret side which I'm verrry curious about. He's hilarious and loyal and he seems to try to hide his more serious side and pretend he's all fun and games but I think there's more to him. I'm so CURIOUS about this guy -- so many questions! *waits anxiously for a sequel or three* I definitely need more of him. :D He just brings such charm and mischief to the group, and the way he interacts with the twins (especially Albany) and everyone else was one of my favorite things about the book. Blaze is just awesome. <3

Things I didn't like as much: (Minor, unimportant things...)

+ I wish there'd been more with the twins and their telepathy. I liked it and them on the whole, I just felt like there could have been more?
+ There were a few things I wish had been explained better (why they didn't use their connection much, or in school, for instance), especially when they were trying to "get out of" things and I wanted to see the entire conversation so I could know if it actually worked. XD Sometimes it seemed like there MIGHT be plotholes, but I wasn't sure since there wasn't enough info explained.
+ It was slightly irksome that things kept being Albany's fault; I mean seriously, poor girl. :P She didn't HAVE to be clumsy that time, and she didn't have to singlehandedly... well... THAT thing near the end. Ahem.
+ They lied to poor Denver a lot, which I understand under the circumstances, but still, poor guy... (Their parents too. Possibly unavoidable under the circumstances, but still unfortunate. :P)
+ There seemed to be a contradiction where they acted like it was okay for one character to manipulate another's emotions to get him to do what they wanted . . . and then a little later they got furious at another character for manipulating a couple of people's minds to . . . also get what they wanted? It seemed really similar to me. I'm just confused, is all. :P

As always with superpowers etc., ESPECIALLY with mind-reading ones, there were probably plot things that could have been solved quicker than the characters actually did... but if there was anything of the sort I ignored it and just had fun with the story. Because SUPERPOWERS, come on! :D All in all, it really only had minor problems (and they're probably just my own opinion anyway!) and I don't really care because I just enjoyed the book so much. ^_^

Overall, aside from a couple minor points, it was awesome and I loved it! It's exciting and cool and fun and just a great light read. I'm verrry much looking forward to book 2 and I highly recommend this one! :)

Wow, I've got to review two books in a day. Much of my power will be spent. *Breathes.* Here goes (and don't worry; though the thought entered my mind, I shall not substitute a poem with fifty four stanzas for a useful review—it is tempting, though…but no…*is sad*):

First off, I misunderstand present tense. Or rather, it is beyond the limits of my comprehension. But that doesn't matter because it changes nothing.

Secondly, this was not a story to miss. You know why? It's—guess what?—urban fantasy—kinda. So that's two urban fantasies in one day and I'm so happy. But enough of that. It also has superpowers, so that adds an element of fun. And normal people, which too adds fun. It also has THE TRUE AND GREATEST USE FOR THE SHOWER . I mean, obviously, these things were invented to enhance and concentrate brain waves. Or provide a place to sing Opera and yodel and pretend nobody can hear you, but I deviate from my purpose.

Okay, let's try this again. My reviewing functionality is malfunctioning. The characters are great, although they eject slightly more than a couple untruths from their oral cavities. But all things taken in consideration… yeah. Well, anyway, excellent people. I'd like to find out up to but not including every detail of their lives, if you follow me. (I.e., I look with mild interest to book two, which, of course, does nothing, so I'll just have to wait whilst my interest grows and turns into speculation and everything gets complicated.)

As for the plot, it was quite edible—wrong word, but you can't blame me; it's almost midnight (and I am half asleep, because I decided long ago to go to bed at midnight so I can pretend to wake up very early in order to eat breakfast more than negative half an hour before lunch). So, yes, the plot was very edible. And before you ask, yes, I figured out that plot point. No, I was not expecting said person to be in such a position of note. Yes, I want a sequel to this plot. No, I very much do like characters such as Blaze. Can I go to bed now? No. Sad.

The writing was very edible too, even if it was in the present tense. But present tense is like there being savoy spinach in your romaine. You don't notice unless if you look. Or taste. Oh, great. I can't even construct a simile.

And, the superpowers. Excellent stuff we have in this area of the book. Everybody has just the right thing, but I shan't elucidate, for fear of compromising the plot. Hint: I may or may not be more than half asleep at this moment.

Oh, forget it. Let's do this the easy way.

Oi, Joseph, yes… you. Did you like the book?
Funny that you should ask. I was just thinking the same thing. But, yes… I enjoyed it quite heartily.

Will you read this book again?
I shouldn't wonder if I did.

Would you pay fifty-nine dollars for this book?
Uh…
I thought so.

Who is your favorite character?
Blaze? Somebody else? I honestly dunno.

Is this book worth every second of the time you spent reading it?
Definitely.

Do you have high expectations for the next book?
Definitely.

Are you still sleepy?
Definitely.

Are you just copying and pasting this template and changing the question?
Definitely.

I'm done.
Definitely.

So, yes, wonderful book. Brilliant characters. Great plot. Quality writing. Sleepy reviewer. For what else could you ask?

QUOTES!!!!!!! There are so many great ones and I've forgotten them all, except for plans being cohesive in a shower, so I'll put Goodreads up to it's potential and hope it doesn't fail me.

Good night. Oh, and let's have a great big imaginary hand for the author. It's saying something that I'm writing this useless of a review. It means I really liked the book, see. Actually, I'm kinda of wondering what my review is like. I'll analyze it in the morning. Maybe.

****** I RECEIVED FROM THE AUTHOR A FREE COPY OF THIS BOOK, BY THE WAY, WHICH WAS REALLY NICE, SO NOW YOU KNOW THIS VALUABLE INFORMATION. I DON'T THINK I WAS REQUIRED TO GIVE A REVIEW AND ALL THE OPINIONS IN THE REVIEW WHICH I GAVE (see above) ARE MY OWN, OBVIOUSLY, BECAUSE WHO WANTS SOMEBODY ELSE'S OPINIONS IN THEIR REVIEW? Pfft. ******

(Note: I received a review copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review. Thanks to author. I am glad I got a chance to read this book.)

Welcome to IDIA. Here are some rules to become IDIA agent.
1. You should have superhero qualities
2. Sworn to secrecy and abide by rules.
3. Should have agent code name
4. Always wear mask shown in the cover.
Okay, I don’t have IDIA manual. I just made it. I hope author will write one and include it in series to save readers from me.

So, about characters- I liked the difference author showed in the book for twin sisters. Albany curious reckless one and Brooklyn very friendly and lovable. I liked how their parents choose their names. All characters were amazing, special Maddie. I loved that little sweet girl, she was so adorable in the book. I can feel how twins felt for her. No characters went unnoticed in the book. Did I mentioned Blaze? He was funny and I enjoyed reading whenever he came into focus. He is second best character I liked in the book.

What I liked- First of all the concept of the book. It reminded me of those movies with secret organization and the agents working to save the world. Here the agents were superheroes and organization was supporting superheroes. I also like the how code names were chosen for all characters. Book started pretty fast and directly took me to the main point. Right from characters and organization to the mystery to solve. It’s to the point story. I liked terminologies used in the book like “serial memory stealer” and “mindprint”. That was funny and cool.

End was nice and open-ended one. I would like to read next book of the series to see what happens next.

Okay one thing it lacked (for me) was battle excitement. I am fan of Marvels. I love to watch the battle scenes and the excitement I feel at that time. So, I wanted the same feeling in the book too, during battles. I got it the time when they were above IDIA (near mountain), but it didn’t last long. Same I was expecting for the end battle. But I didn’t feel it. I don’t know. I hope I'll get that in the next book of the series.
Otherwise, the book is through and through very clean and clear, I don’t have any other point to write in this section.

Overall, it’s good read. Teens, YA and superhero fans would love to read it.

What the book is about:

Albany York has a secret.
Albany and her twin sister, Brooklyn, have spent years successfully hiding their telepathic connection. But when a girl falls unconscious at their doorstep, the girls learn that they might not be the only people in the world with extraordinary powers and that a memory thief is on the loose. As the twins try to help the girl find her memories, they discover that the superhero world might be bigger—and more dangerous—than they ever imagined.

My review:

So I'm going to hide my review because there might be slight spoilers, so
Read on at your own risk ;)

So question for those who have read this book, what do you hope we see in the next book?
(Also fangirl with me in the comments ;)

This was so not what I was expecting! The plot, the characters, the adventure! It was SO awesome. Outstandingly well written. This was the first time that I have read C.B. Cook’s writing and I was extremely surprised. It was very obvious that there was a lot of thought and outlining put into the writing of Twinepathy.

Each character was very different from all the other ones and they all had a part in the story. It was so much fun to see all the secrets unfold. I thought Albany was going to be a lot like me, but it ended up being Brooklyn who reminded me of myself. The twins are so alike, but then they are totally different. That just added to the adventure. I especially loved all the unique names. Every single one of them fit that character and that just helped bring the story to life, even though the story is so far-fetched.

If you love action, suspense, and adventure—the superhero kind—then you would probably enjoy Twinepathy.

This was an original and fast-paced superhero read. I love heroes and agents and this book had both. Albany was a rash, spunky heroine and I especially loved Blaze, the funny, cocky (leading guy?) Agent. I could've used a little more description, and some things seemed a bit far-fetched. Then again, these are superheroes we're talking about. Overall it was a clean, fun read in an underwritten genre.

Hold on. Right now I'm trying to gather my thoughts on this book.

... Okay, I've got it. I know what word I can use to sum up TWINEPATHY.

"Awesome."

So yep, that's my thoughts on the book.

... Or, in other words, THIS WAS THE MOST AMAZING SUPERHERO BOOK EVERRRRRR (not that I, like, read superhero books or anything) AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH AND IT IS SO GOOOOOOOOD. I NEED LIGHTPORTER NOW. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.

This world of supers was FANTASTIC and totally fun. I mean come on, they go around wearing masks and the coolest superhero nicknames (like "Veil" and "Verdant" and "the Finch"? I don't even have words). Also, what kind of genius decided to name her main charries Albany and Brooklyn, with an older brother named Denver? Also, why am I not allowed to know Blaze's real name I want more Blaze I love Blaze.

Ahem.

Anyway, if you're reading this review and contemplating whether or not to read it, STOP READING THIS NOW AND GO GET IT. You need this series in your life, buddy. And so GOODBYE.

But if you're reading this review because you just want to and you can, allow me to continue my fangirling and excited squealing and just plain loving this book.

FIVE. STARS. PEOPLE. FIVE STARS. I love this book so much!!!

"There was an idea . . . to bring together a group of remarkable people, to see if they could become something more."

Well, actually, there was an IDIA>, and from that came an awesome novel about a pair of telepathic twins, a girl who lost her memories, a woman as full of mysteries as she is determination, and a serial memory murderer. And yes, you did read that last bit right.

Twinepathy is an exciting adventure that blends twists of mystery with superhero action. Yet it balances that action with a look at the normal— or semi-normal— life of a superhero and the decisions they have to make.

Probably my favorite thing about Twinepathy, though, is C.B.'s creativity in creating superpowers and superheroes. Some of the powers she comes up with are fairly unique in and of themselves— Data's, for instance, and the aforementioned serial memory murderer's. Others seem standard on the surface— telepathy, light powers— but are made unique by the way she thinks through unexpected applications of those powers. It makes for a real treat.

The characters are another thing I enjoy . . . but not entirely. To be honest, Albany annoys me, and I think she gets away with way too much. However, she has her moments, and the many side characters, major and minor, are awesome. Blaze is the best: a great guy who can be both snarky and sensitive as the situation demands. (I'd say that I'd date him if he were real, but he doesn't date.) Anvil is my second favorite, a scary guy with a bit of a soft side who's absolutely loyal to his friends. Data is intriguing and surprisingly likable for someone who keeps so many secrets. And Keller is someone to whom I can relate in her desire for independence and care for her sister.

In conclusion: Twinepathy may not be the most amazing book in the world, but it's a fun, exciting read for superhero fans of all ages. Whether you love Marvel, DC, or just adventure and awesome powers in general, you'll enjoy this.

This book had a lot of potential. I especially loved certain parts of it. Like the different superpowers! Some of the twists! The villain and what he was capable of. Blaze!!!! HE WAS SO GREAT!!! The twins. The little girl!!! I LOVED HER, OKAY!!?!?! The memories. THE SUPERHEROES!!! BLAZE!!! Oh... I said that already.... BLAZE!!! Data was pretty cool too.

Things I Didn't Like:

This book is called "Twinepathy", so you would think that it would be about, well, the "twins". So I was a little disappointed when the book didn't explore this idea more. And instead it was about this other problem? Super villain?

This book had a very good beginning. I was laughing and enjoying myself tremendously. But, somewhere on the line the book started to lack. What could have been an enjoyable and interesting plot became... Well, not the best thing I read, but not the worst either.

I just didn't like the part where Albany wanted to do everything herself. Breaking the rules that the main hero organization put in place for a reason, and some of the scenes were lacking in both description and something else I can't put my finger on.... Realism, maybe?

The story could have really taken off if it had more of the side characters with bigger roles. Especially BLAZE because, yeah, he is my favorite, alright!?!

But you see, one part of the story would've been a lot more emotional if we got to know the side characters a little more. Because we don't know many of them this one reveal fell short of what it could have been.

Then I had a major problem with the battle scene. Mainly, I felt the scene wasn't written to its full potential, like we could have had a lot more out of that scene. It could have really been blown out to an epic scene, but sadly I felt that it fell short....

Also, I hate the scene with the parents.... REALLY?!?!?! I know that Brooklyn has the power to manipulate people's feelings or something like that, but I really thought that there should have been more punishment or something. That the parents shouldn't have been so soft on them. I realize that this would have changed the whole course of the story, but I think it would have been worth to explore. I know that the parents overlooked some of things because of plot problems, BUT WHY WOULD THEY OVERLOOK THIS LITTLE GIRL AND NOT WORRY ABOUT HER AND WHERE SHE BELONGS!!?!

Content in Book:

1. Superpowers.

2. Violence. (Involving superpowers. Bombs. Trying to kill people. Hand-to-hand combat. Etc.)

3.

4. Doing things that your parents wouldn't like. Like sneaking out of the house and so on.

Who I Would Recommend This Book Too:

Those who want a clean superhero book.

Will I Continue With The Series???

Maybe... I did like certain elements in this book, so I might.

Re-read: I enjoyed it just as much as last time. It was nice to get to know the characters again, especially goofy Blaze xD

My Review:

I absolutely adored this book. The minute I picked up the book, I was in love! *fangirls* The characters were absolutely amazing! Although, the twins are supposedly 17 years old…. but they kind of acted younger, like they were 15-16. It kind of reminds me of my younger sister and I.

I really don’t want to spoil the whole book or characters, but my favorite characters were Anvil, Denver, Maddie….. and BLAZE! I think I have the wrong idea of what he looks like... but my mind can do anything it wants! *imagines guy with blonde hair in some sort of a black superhero costume*
Is it weird that I shipped Blaze and Albany right when they first met? Still do! ❤

I have to know about Blaze’s past! I’m gonna die before the next book!

I really liked how the author focused on the twins’ relationship, instead of having a romance (but I still ship Albany and Blaze!).

While I do think Twinepathy could have had a few Christian themes intertwined, it did contained some good ones and there wasn’t any questionable content.

What I didn’t like:

1) Lack of explanation for certain things. I wish I could make sense of a few things.

2) I wish the agents would’ve treated the clones with a little more respect for human life. Battle them and treat them like they’re not living beings… :/

3) The lying bugged me quite a bit. I wish Albany and Brooklyn would’ve been honest with their parents and older brother. I wish they didn’t go behind their parent’s backs.

The only reasons it took me so long to read this book was because I was super busy with life and it takes me longer to read e-books.

Content Warnings: Clean violence (pretty much hand-to-hand combat), superpowers (mind-reading, telekinesis, etc), quite a bit of lying.

*I received this book as an Advance Reader e-Copy from the author (Thanks C.B Cook!) in exchange for an honest review. This review was written in my own words and opinions.

Albany is a nerd, her twin sister Brooklyn is a sweet, social girl, and they have superpowers. And then a little girl and a ball arrive at their door. Who? What?

Read Twinepathy and find out. Albany wants to find out too; she'll tell you all she sleuths about the little girl and other puzzles.

There are plenty of interesting characters, including a charming, troublesome young man; a sweet, dangerous, hurt one (my favorite Twinepathy character); and a villain with a not stereotypical motive.

This book is a refreshing and fun twist from superhero cliches -- I loved it! And Medic has to be one of my favorites, just because of how adorable he is. I can't wait to read the sequel!

This was a pretty good book. I've never read anything quite like it. :) But I enjoyed it.
Ever since I was little I've loved spying/mysteries, that type of stuff so that is another reason I enjoyed it.

A few things...

1.) The beginning. I love the feel of the beginning of 'Twinepathy'. It's very natural and realistic. It's just 3 siblings, sitting in their living room, playing Go Fish. That's something that would actually happen in real life and for me, it sucks you in, and makes you want to read more.
2.) There were a few simple grammar mistakes. (they didn't bother me terribly, but still. They were there and wouldn't have been that hard to fix.)
3.) Question....... how old are Albany and Brooklyn??
4.) Also Denver is such a great big brother!!
5.) "But then I enter into The Place Where All Brilliance Occurs --- the shower..."
YES!!! ALL YES!!! XDDD This is so so so so so true!!!
6.) Also this book is very clean!!

Overall, I enjoyed this book and look forward to start the second one in the IDIA series!

I think my favorite character was maybe Blaze or Ezra. I also liked Albany ;)

I rate it 4 stars!

Many thanks to the author for giving me an opportunity to read her book! :D
