A great book for those struggling as Christians with OCD. Covers both the causes, and curing of OCD, with a heartfelt personal message from the author. However, it felt way too technical for me. Especially if you're not in the medical profession, it just became too confusing to comprehend. I wish there were more Bible verses, too, and more talk of God - not just the science of it.
This little book contains some good information and some not so good (from a biblical perspective). The word "sin" is conspicuously absent from the text as well as a biblical understanding of change (sanctification) and suffering. Additionally, there is no counsel to seek God's means of grace for suffering and sin (beyond a few verses): HIs Word, His Covenant Community (the Church), prayer, counsel, etc. (the spiritual weapons we have, see 2 Cor. 10:3-6). The first chapter promotes that idea that OCD sufferers are biologically predestined. Additionally, there is no recognition that neural patterns are often the result (not the cause) of repetitious thoughts and behaviors, which themselves are the product of unrecognized sub- or barely conscious choices. Those choices are rooted in unexamined desires of the heart, which Scripture is sufficient to expose. Recommended Read: A Still and Quiet Mind (Esther Smith)
Wow. This book really hits the nail on the head. Please read it . My daughter is suffering with OCD now, and with the Lord, I have overcome a bit of OCD in my life. I see it in my daughter, too and I can show her this book and the way out, because it's clear and simply outlined here. The same thoughts in here are the types of thoughts that help me, too. Thank you, P.A. Kennan, for writing this out so clearly. It is truly a service to many people. You went through your sufferings and came out of them for a purpose of good for many people.
If you, or someone you know and love, struggles with a spirit of fear, this is a great resource. It focuses on OCD and ritual tendencies, but she speaks to fear and overcoming anxiety is such a clear, gentle, biblical way. Fear is addicting. Fear makes us insular. So many people wrap it around themselves like a blanket and they are terrified to let go. In a way, living in fear brings them false peace. This book really helps bring light to peeling it away and walking in freedom.

This short book is such a helpful guide to understanding what OCD is and how it affects those who have it. The first half is very much that, and the second half is full of practical, Biblical and hopeful encouragement towards management and healing.
This book remained brief, so it was easy to work through. While it outlines next steps, it takes time to implement. Great read, and looking forward to the work ahead.
