At 11 years old, I read this book in the back of my mom's car on roadtrips. In hindsight, it was as good as playing the game itself. It has great summaries of the all the characters, and leads you through the wonderful plot with captivating writing and artwork. As a writer and illustrator working on my first graphic novel, I picked up this book partly for nostalgia's sake, but also to revisit childhood inspirations.
I just happen to be replaying FF6 (then known as FF3) so I googled the guide and found myself on Goodreads. I had this guide when I first played the game at age 11. I absolutely loved it because it was so much more than a guide. It went into depth exploring the characters and the themes of the story. I remember Olafson referring to the game as “a voyage of self-discovery” and that was so accurate on many levels for me as an 11-year old. I hope I can find my copy so I can revisit this gem.
