Author Sherry Johnson pens here traumatic childhood abuse in which she was raped 4 times before the age of 10. Pregnant and married at the age of 11 to cover-up this horrible tragedy she shares how she overcame it all to be a successful business woman, mother and friend. This is a must read for anyone who suffer with forgiven people who have abused you as well as stopping the cycle of abuse in your life.
I did not finish this book because it was too poorly written. With a ghost writer or good editor it could be a compelling memoir, but in its current form it’s nearly unreadable. Run-on sentences littered with Biblical phrases and spelling errors make it difficult to follow the story.
I was watching A&E last night. "I was a child Bride" special came on. And I watched Destany's story. I was shocked by just the little I heard. And something moved me to look in Kindle. I found this book. Thank goodness for Kindle Unlimited. I started the book at midnight. It is now 4:30 p.m. The next day. If you never read again . PLEASE READ THIS BOOK.! The trama this woman has been through is beyond my thinking. She is Amazing. And I'm blessed to read her life story. An amazing courageous woman.
Lately, it takes plenty for me not to read, and this particular book made me cringe. What happened to Destiny was downright criminal. What the bishop, stepfather, mother and deacon did was just wrong. What does a child know about enticing a man? Aren't they taught to obey? My heart went out to this child and I have no love for the mistreatment of this child. Period.
I enjoyed reading Destiny's story. I cried when reading certain parts of her story. I wondered how could her mother let all of this happen to her daughter. And in the end I applaud her strength to forgive everyone who ever hurt her.
But God... this story is truly an testimony. Ms. Johnson story and courage and perseverance is are from God and his love. I am sure sharing her story has helped and encourage. Her foundation is sadly so needed in our community.
I could not put this book down once I started reading it. I recommended the book to my Pastor's wife and she felt the same way. This book hits home on so many levels concerning my life and also it really does lives up to it's title.
I was curious just from the name of the book. Reading the book moved me in ways that I didn't think possible. I thought I forgave others. However, it's hard to forgive completely when your tormentors are still in your life. I limit my contact with them, but the taunts still come back to revisit. I have to be content with a little. They know why I limit my contact with them. They tell other family members a different story. I'm okay with it. I pray 🙏 🤲 a lot. I applaud the author for her courage and strength to survive and keep the faith. I know it's God that gives her the power to continue. That's whom I am relying on. Stay blessed and encourage. I love you sister.
This is a must-read for women of all ages, however, a professional editor really needs to give it the once over. Entirely too many run-on sentences and incomplete thoughts. Also, the ending seemed rushed and did not really wrap up the entire story as it should have. If you can get beyond these issues, the story really is very compelling. It will having you crying for Destiny and asking how the adults in her life could let her down so horribly.
I disliked how all of those she reached out to to help her, only hurt her! I love how her grandmother's prayers covered her, even in the worst of times to keep her sanity and rise up the way God intended for! I recommend this book to all! All praises and glory to God....Amen🙌🙏❤💪. This, her story is amazing and historical. Thank you for your strength and courage Mrs. Johnson ❤🙏🙌.
I read other reviews and I get what people are saying about the writing, but this woman isn’t an author. She wrote her heartbreaking story for others and it was seriously so sad but the way she forgave and made her life better and turned her pain into passion by helping others speaks volumes. I was able to over look the errors in writing because I just read it like she was telling me a story. I’m giving 4 stars for her bravery to share this story and all she overcame.
I bought this book thinking it was the story of Sherry Johnson. I heard about her work here in Florida to restrict the age of marriage and wanting to support her, I bought her book. Unfortunately, this is not her story, it’s a novel and poorly written.
I’m still glad I bought the book though as I find her inspirational.
Gripping and often hard to read narrative of a child who was failed by all of the adults that were supposed to protect and love her. The author helps you to feel every emotion she experienced and walks you through her life with one chilling story after another. Her resilience is astounding and her willingness to share her life is beautiful.
I read this book a few years ago. My hair stylist gave me this book to read. I read it and past it on to my mother. It just goes to show that you think that you have been through something that you are not the only one and their are people out there that have been worst than you have been. If not the same different. Hurt and Pain etc its the same it just come in different forms.
The story is good. It’s true and tragic and that’s the only reason I kept reading until the end. However, the writing is horrible! Misspellings, countless grammar issues, run-on sentences, you name it. Editors exist for a reason and it’s very apparent one wasn’t used in the production of this book.
It is not the best written book I've ever read but the story needed telling. Ms. Johnson is a very strong lady and her mission in life is a very good, important mission. I cried through most of this. No child should ever have to experience the things she did.
I saw Density on tv telling her story from there I picked up the book. It’s a amazing story of how she didn’t let her circumstances bring her down. She brings hope to others in this situation.
No matter where life has taken you, you can find beauty from ashes. This book will shake you to your core but it is such a beautiful testimony to the power of walking with God.
I wish I could give 1/2 stars because this book is more than a three, but not quiet a four. This book made me cringe. What happened to this child was unforgiveable. Abuse is never an easy read. At times, I could not continue because the writing was smothering me.
I understand people's frustrations that this book was badly written and I agree to an extent. But that doesn't take away how gut-wrenching Destiny's story is. It also highlighted how rapists always hide behind religion.
This book will tug on your heart strings. It will also take you through a whirlwind of emotions. In the end you will learn a very valuable lesson about forgiveness.
