While reading this book, I felt like it was written just for me...like the author was in my head and knew my thoughts. It’s a beautiful thing to have someone understand, to know what it’s like to be a highly sensitive person. All my life I have been told, “you’re too sensitive,” or “you’re overreacting,” when really I have always just felt things (emotions, energy) very deeply. I’ve always felt different and at times isolated, so this book helped me to feel “normal.” She shined a light on some areas for me that I’ve struggled with and provided so much hope and guidance. The exercises and meditations were eye opening and I realized just how negative I can be with myself and how that effects my day to day life - not to mention my issues with food sensitivities!!

This book on sensitivity particularly spoke to me because of the portrayal of how empowerment and self-limiting beliefs of highly sensitives can each develop. Sometimes it is frustrating to take the pause of doing the exercises interspersed throughout an interactive development book, especially when it is engaging. But it typically felt worthwhile, like I was stripping away at long held beliefs that were no good. I am beginning to not only accept myself entirely, but have more grace, loving kindness, and hope in myself. My love for Kyra Mesich's approach comes a lot from her perspective of sensitivity as one cause of depression, and erroneously thinking that has been all of your own ups and downs since being a small child. I am learning to see many past experiences as being unaware of how connected I felt to everyone around me, which tends to keep me away from people for fear of overwhelm. Previously, I could not tell you why so many people in my surroundings would negatively impact me. I felt I just was not a people person. I am going to begin the 20 day practice then add a few more thoughts below. I'm already grateful for how the book is allowing me to rewrite the narrative of my life.

2.5 stars - Some of this was helpful to me. I liked the exercises and meditations. The appendix with another perspective on being an empath was more relatable to me than the main text. Perhaps part of it was that the main text didn’t touch on the basics enough and relate them to the new information in this book? Overall an interesting read, but I’m not sure that I’d recommend it.

I have always know that I am a sensitive person, but I used to think of this as a bad thing. I saw it as a major flaw that I was stuck with and it should be hidden away. After reading The Strength of Sensitivity, I now feel empowered due to my sensitivity. I now see my sensitivity as a real strength versus a flaw. The meditations and exercises the book provides are very helpful in gaining a better understanding and appreciation for being sensitive and for the energy that flows through and connects us all. I love that I can go back to this book and revisit the exercises and meditations any time I feel like my sensitivity is becoming overwhelming. I highly recommend this book and proudly exclaim that I am sensitive!

This book discusses how empaths often take on problems of others, and suggests looking at a sensitive nature as a positive attribute rather than in the negative way in which it is often perceived. Some chapters have a “new age” focus—for example, intuition via muscle testing, using flower essences, and solar plexus meditation. Several excellent guided meditations are also included.
