Celebrate Christmas with Charlie Brown and the rest of the Peanuts gang in this gorgeous retelling of the beloved Christmas special!
Christmas is almost here, which means ice-skating, Christmas carols, and sparkly lights everywhere—even on Snoopy’s doghouse! Everyone is enjoying the holiday celebrations except Charlie Brown. Can the Peanuts gang help Charlie Brown discover the true meaning of Christmas?
"A Charlie Brown Christmas" tells the story of the true meaning of Christmas. It isn't about Santa Claus or finding gifts under the tree. Sure, many have come to believe that is what it is all about, especially when certain individuals don't want to allow manger scenes around hospitals and other public places, even though hospitals are the one place you would think you want that, as well as any other religions' presence. Leave it to little Linus to set the record straight.
For many of us this cute little book is full of nostalgia too. Remember when you could buy something for a nickel? Do you remember when most everyone put up lights and decorations, and the trees came from the corner lot? Those falling pine needles were everywhere, but the smell of a fresh tree wafted through the air to help set the mood. Getting that tree home was work, sure, but it was worth it. And remember the school plays and programs? Those were different times. This is a cute little book to read to the young'uns. And who doesn't like Snoopy?
Read for my toddler's bedtime. Charlie Brown was feeling sad at Christmas until Lucy told him to direct the holiday play. He went to get a Christmas tree for the play but everyone laughed at his choice and it made him sadder. But eventually his friends came around and did something to make him happy again.
It’s the most magical time of the year. Christmas is coming! The air is crisp and cold, children are ice-skating and the sound of christmas carols fills the air. Everyone is in the holiday spirit. Well, almost everyone.
I got this book as a Christmas present! There were too many words for me to pay attention, but the pages are easy to turn, and I loved flipping back and forth and back and forth between all of the pages!
This edition is a paperback edition celebrating 50 years of "A Charlie Brown Christmas." It's such a classic television program and I've seen it countless times. So I was thrilled to find this book and rediscover the joy of the story.
I have an older artificial Christmas tree that my family has used since I was very young. My family calls it my own Charlie Brown Christmas tree because it's lost some needles each year and does not look as much like a real tree as ones you can purchase today. But it's my beloved tree and I think it's beautiful and I insist on putting it up every year.
Had to pick-up a couple of things at Walmart, saw this Charles M. Schulz classic in the book section and took 5 minutes to re-read it for umpteen's time. Always liked it, at Christmas time usually watch the Grinch, Olive, the Other Reindeer (highly recommend if your a Jack Russell Terrier fan) and will read A Charlie Brown Christmas while shopping. Had this as a Kid, don't know whatever happened to it. Its a classic that great for any age.
A Charlie Brown Christmas is a familiar and nostalgic story that captures the gentle humor and quiet melancholy that define the Peanuts world. As a reading experience, it’s fine; pleasant enough, but not particularly memorable if you’re already well-acquainted with the television special.
The story follows Charlie Brown as he struggles with the commercialization of Christmas and tries to find something meaningful amid the noise, decorations, and expectations around him. His frustration feels timeless, and Schulz’s simple dialogue still lands with warmth and sincerity. Linus’s iconic moment, where he explains the true meaning of Christmas, remains the emotional core of the story and is easily the strongest part.
That said, as a book, it doesn’t offer much beyond what fans already know. The plot is straightforward, the conflicts are resolved quickly, and there’s little depth added compared to the animated special. If you’ve seen it even once, there are no surprises here. The charm largely relies on familiarity rather than fresh insight.
Overall, A Charlie Brown Christmas is an okay read: comforting, gentle, and nostalgic, but not essential. It works best as a seasonal reminder of a classic story rather than as a standout book on its own. Fans of Peanuts will appreciate revisiting the characters, while new readers may find it pleasant but slight.

Christmas is coming and Charlie Brown is sad. His dog Snoopy has put up a garish light display. His sister Sally just wants Santa to bring her cash. The kids in the school play won't listen to him. And the Christmas tree he hopes will brighten the mood just meets with derision. When it seems like there's no hope for any true Christmas spirit, Charlie Brown's friends band together to make the little tree into "something magical." The writing is bland, but illustrations truly channel the original Charles Schulz.
I found a beautiful, pristine hardcover edition of this book at a local consignment shop today, and since I collect Peanuts memorabilia, I had to have it. The story doesn't differ in any way from the animated special, but I always get such a great feeling of nostalgia any time I watch it or read an edition of it. I also really loved the illustrations in this one; they're not screen caps taken directly from the animated special, but they're similar enough that they gave me all the feelings of nostalgia that watching it does. I will definitely be keeping this one for my collection!
Gammi (my mom) started reading this book to Macy (my niece) & me. I finished reading the last few pages. I got it for Gammi for Christmas, since she has always loved the cartoon movie. Gammi & I added extra sound effects like the piano dancing music (an a-cappella rendition of Vince Giribaldi’s “Linus & Lucy” theme song) & the singing of “Hark The Herald Angels Sing”. Maybe this will become a new tradition.
We loved the whole book. It was very kind and thoughtful of Charlie Brown's friends to help him. It teaches kids the real meaning of Christmas, which is spending time family and friends, doing good deeds, and caring enough to help someone in need. We did not dislike anything in the book. We recommend this book to everyone (:
What's not to love about a Charles Schultz story?? I first time I saw a Charlie Brown cartoon, I absolutely fell in love with all the characters. When I saw this book, I just knew that I had to have it. It's just as amazing as it was the first time I saw it. Thank you Mr. Schultz for bringing the Peanuts gang to life!!
It's the same as the TV special with out some of the filler images the cartoon has. I wanted to see if it was the same as the special it is, but also it still hits . I am still more of a Grinch person so the Peanut are good to me but not as much as a vibe the how the Grinch stole Christmas and the Hogfather.
I read this book to my cousin and he really enjoyed it. Charlie Brown is such a classic and it never fails to put me in the holiday spirit! Charlie brown upon entering Christmas sets himself on a journey to find a real meaning of Christmas.
The Theme of this Story is the Over-commercialization of Christmas
I first saw the television show, A Charlie Brown Christmas over 60 years ago and I try to see it every year. This comic story brought back many fond memories from my childhood. Thank you Mr. Schulz.
When I was a little girl, I always used to watch the Christmas specials. This one was my favorite. First of all, because I'm a Christian, but also because this one has heart. It has a message. That is super rare these days.
I loved this wonderful Christmas story told by Linus to Charlie Brown and his friends. The characters are cute. The illustrations are beautiful. I recommend this book as an excellent book to read to a small child. This is my voluntary and honest review.
I love the tv show and since it's on a streaming channel that I don't have. Reading the book it's like I am watching the show. Charlie Brown Christmas is a must see for me every year and I 'm 80 years old.
