Bossy

Rate this book
It’s a dirty job, but someone’s got to do him.

One night only. No promises, no regrets. He was rich, ripped, inked up, and gone in the morning. I didn't even know his name. Not until I read it off the door on my first day at work.

See, I don't do bad boys, I don't do troublemakers and I sure as heck didn't graduate college with a 3.9 GPA by screwing around.

I was never supposed to see him again, but now he's my new boss, as sexy in a suit as he was between my sheets.

And my new stepbrother.

Having him was a slice of Heaven. Working for him could mean selling my soul. But if the devil looks like Declan Riordan, Hell might be worth the burn.

Declan is at a boring frat party when he catches sight of Claire, a hot girl with a slobbering ex.

Claire kicked slobby Michael out when she found him in their bed with another girl, and now he’s chasing her around and being all drunk and tearful and mildly violent. He’s terrible.

As she relates her woes to some fine tattooed bad boy Claire is conscious of three things. One, she didn’t catch his name, and it’s probably way too late to ask, and two: she’s probably boring him senseless with her cheating fiancé story and three: she desperately wants to get in his pants. But she’s in luck, because he wants in her pants too! Sad girl stories from girls with great boobs are his jam, baby! And, gosh do they have a super-great time. He’s gone by the time she wakes. And all she has to remember him by is scattered prophylactic wrappers. At least he was a gentleman and disposed of the umm, used articles.

Four months later, Claire’s headed to her internship with the law firm owned by her mother’s fiancé. She’s going to be working for the fiancé’s son, and yes that’s Declan, and yes: I’m on a stepbrother romance kick. I’m so ashamed/not ashamed.

It’s also lawyers. There’s a fun character whose job is to tell lawyer jokes, and Declan and Claire lawyer a case that is awful and unwinnable, and surprisingly, it worked well. See, Declan’s an all-alpha, no commitment, fun dirty sex kind of guy who is of course struggling with his sweet romantic feels for Claire. And she’s smart and feisty and while she doesn’t trust him much, she has some perils for Declan to punch.

They are simple romance characters, and Linwood does a perfect job of making them wrong about stuff. Declan’s ‘punch it’ approach to any problem always makes a situation worse. Claire’s ‘must crusade for Right at any Cost!’ approach is challenged by practicalities. As a reader entering her pre-grumpy life phase, this is how I would prefer the new adult genre to work: baby 20-somethings learning that their elders know some stuff.

I liked them both, and they were fun together.

I’m adding Kim Linwood to my list of great Kindle Unlimited finds (it’s a very short list so far). I don’t know whether this will work as well for a reader who just wanted some kinky pseudo incest drama, and it probably didn’t need it anyway. There’s already enough challenging conflict in the unequal power dynamic of an office romance, so if you are a reader who doesn’t at all like kinky pseudo incest drama, but likes forbidden office romances with a mild side of lawyering, you could potentially read this and edit out the stepbrother bits.

This is definitely one of the top 'step-sibling' books I've read.

For a start there was actually a storyline and not just dirty sex in the bedroom of a big house while the step parents are downstairs. The step sibling part of this is actually quite small, it is relevant but there isn't any unnecessary drama about it. What made this was the banter between Declan and Claire, and it was nice that Claire wasn't a meek innocent naive heroine .

*May contain minor spoilers*

♦️BOOK: Standalone. Full length. Kindle loc: 3130

♦️WRITING: really good - humorous

♦️POV: dual first person

♦️HERO: Declan Riordan, 27--Lawyer at his father's law firm. He's cocky, flirty, playful, charming, smart, huge, muscular, covered in tattoos, with dark blue eyes, unruly black hair.

♦️HEROINE: Claire Anderson, 21--Intern, about to begin law school. She's smart, witty, snarky, tough, with deep red curly hair, dark brown eyes, curvy body.

♦️PLOT: Declan and Claire meet at a party and have a hot one night stand. Several months later, Claire begins her internship at her soon-to-be stepfather's law firm and comes face to face with Declan, her new stepbrother and boss. He flirts with Claire, they bicker, play pranks on each other, get to know each other, have a sexy time or two, butt heads some more and work on a big controversial case together. Claire's ex causes some major problems.

♦️REVIEW: This is one of the best stepbrother romances that I've read. It's funny, it's playful, it's sexy and I really loved that it had some substance to it. They are all likable characters including the parents, unlike some other stepbrother books where the parents tend to be really awful.

♦️STEAM LEVEL: hot, 4/5 - explicit sex scenes

♦️ENDING: HEA, Epilogue - 3 years later, No cliffhanger

♦️WARNINGS/TRIGGERS: none

♦️FUNNY QUOTES:
"Testosterone turns the males of the human species into idiots. It’s true, I just witnessed it. It was like watching gorillas beating their chests at each other, except I’ll give the gorillas a break because I think gorilla ladies are into that sort of thing. Me? Not so much."

He rubs his arm. “You’ve got a mean right hook, by the way. I haven’t boxed in a while, but I can pull out my gloves. Did you fight?”
“Nah. Catholic school.”
“Jesus Christ,” he laughs.
“Exactly.”

Claire Anderson doesn’t expect to ever see again the tattooed hunk who left her bed before she woke up after a night of off the charts sex.

Declan Riordan makes no promises so he doesn’t disappoint like Claire’s two-timing ex. His MO is one night stands. Well except for the feisty red-head he can’t get out of his head.

Color them both shocked to see each other again on Claire’s first day at work for an internship at her soon-to-be stepfather’s legal firm.

“‛As it turns out, we’ve bumped into each other a few times, but just never been formally introduced.’” — Declan

The story is easy to get into— the descriptions colorful, the writing witty, and both characters quite likeable. Despite his sometimes arrogant and headstrong persona, Declan is a “badass knight in shining Armani.” He’s certainly confident and alpha, but the story, told via Declan and Claire’s alternating first person POV, helps the reader see the sometimes misunderstood Declan as a fairly upstanding guy underneath even when Claire isn’t so sure.

“I still can’t tell if he’s a nice guy with moments of jerk, or a jerk with moments of nice.” —Claire

The two have plenty of entertaining banter and comical innuendo.

“‛I can already tell you’ll be well qualified for whatever position I put you in.’” — Declan

And Claire is no wall flower; she’s able to give as good as she gets.

There’s a lot of fun in this story as Claire and Declan embark on a not-so-innocent game of professional pranks, behaving like the ornery stepsiblings they’re about to become. Step-sibling books have become all the rage, but they’re hardly taboo anymore so I adore the ones that don’t take themselves too seriously and instead make a comedic play on the premise like this one.

I could have done a bit without the OM drama in the form of a creepy ex subplot. But I give major points to both Claire and Declan for staying true to their characters and not caving to the pressures. If they were weaker characters it could have gone a totally different way and I’m glad it didn’t, nor did it overpower the main story. Still one of the things I so adored about the author’s previous book Rebel: A Stepbrother Romance was the lack of clichéd jealous schemers, and I honestly thought Claire and Declan were entertaining enough without throwing in this often contrived romance plot device. But I suppose it does serve as a means to an end, and in the end, it ties together well as all their dramas and perceived obstacles come full circle with Declan doing the hero thing in his own Declan way.

All in all, a funny, light-hearted, sexy romance. HEA w/an epilogue though I wished the epilogue was just a tad longer as the pair made a great couple and Declan was pretty delectable!

Claire is an honor student getting ready to graduate from university and is gearing up to start law school. Breaking up with her long-time cheater of a boyfriend wasn’t part of her plan, and neither was the one night stand she indulged in with the hot, tattooed older man at a frat party. But that one night with him was so hot she’s ruined for all others; problem is, she didn’t even catch his name.

You’d never know that underneath the tailored suit of defense attorney Declan is a tattooed bad boy. He’s the non-committal type and when he picks up the fiery undergrad at a homecoming frat party one night, the memories of that one sizzling night play on repeat for months. So when he makes her acquaintance again months later and finally learns her name, both of their worlds are turned upside down. What are the chances that the girl that turned his world upside down would soon be his stepsister? When Claire is hired as Declan’s intern for the summer as Declan’s personal assistant, they soon find they cannot stand each other. But what is really fueling their mutual hate? Could it be the sizzling chemistry they have when they’re together?

Without a doubt this book is HOT! But it was the pranks and banter between the two that really made this book entertaining. The one-upsmanship between them is hilarious. I also appreciated the evolution that they each undergo as individuals. Declan comes to terms with his mother’s death and the acceptance that his dad has moved on, and Claire learns what it is to be dependent, to find her voice. Told in a dual, first person POV, the ability to get inside both of their heads makes for a well-told story and believable characters. There was a little predictability throughout the story, however it is an enjoyable read from cover to cover. While stepbrother romances seem to be the in thing right now, this one definitely stands out and fans of this trope will love it, I know I did.

Claire was this woman that would face her fears. She was confident, feisty and sexy as hell. She did have this loser of an ex-boyfriend by the name of Michael. He was obsessed with Clarrie. Almost scary stalker type, but if it was not for Michael she might of not of had her one night stand. Her hero might not of come to her rescue.
Declan is arrogant, sexy, smart, and never does a girl twice. He does not like the emotions that are involved in a relationship. He never would of dreamed that the night of the frat party that he would meet a girl he could never get out of his system. It was supposed to be one night, right?
Declan works at this dad’s his law firm. When his father told him that his step-sister Claire Anderson would be working for him he never dreamed that Claire Anderson would be the one night stand Claire. Oh and how Claire is surprised that Her step-brother (new boss) is that sexy guy she had one night stand with. Her rebound guy.
Claire will face somethings that will be hard face. Between the case she is forced to work on Cooper Holdings, to her ex-boyfriend, and to her past coming back up to bite her. She is to the place where she needs a miracle. Who can she rely on to get her out of the mess she finds herself in.
I received this book for an honest review. I love Kim Linwood’s work. I had to opportunity to read Rebel and now Bossy. Both books are amazing. Kim truly has a talent for writing. With this book you will find love, ate, betrayal, funny pranks..lol, and a lot of passion. This is defiantly a book you should check out.

The book starts off on a serious note, Claire is at a Frat Party that her ex-fiancée is trying to get in to make amends, you see Michael was caught in their bed with some hookup so Claire broke-up with him and through him out of their apartment, Claire wants no part of it she is done with him and when Declan sees what is happening he steps in to help her out. Long story short Michael is forced out and later on that night Claire and Declan wind up in bed together. They both agree to it being a one night hookup so it's no surprise when she wakes up and he's gone. Fast forward four months and they meet again when Claire is the new intern at his families Law Firm. Not only a new intern but also his future stepsister. YIKES!

This was a fun read, I loved all the pranks that Claire and Declan played on one another and all of the lawyer jokes that Carl told. While there was some serious issues being dealt with the humor helped keep the story light and fun. Very Enjoyable read.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. This is my first time reading work by Kim Linwood & I was pleased to have that opportunity; otherwise I might have passed up "Bossy" as yet another stepbrother trope & it's a great deal more than that!
Declan & Clare meet at a party after he helps her get rid of her ex who is trying to persuade her to give him a second chance after he cheated on her with another woman, in her bed! They share a very hot night but fail to exchange names, let alone numbers. Fast forward four months & Clare arrives at the law offices of her soon-to-be stepfather, Garrett, who has offered her a summer intern position, working with his son, Declan, who is already a hot shot young lawyer. Shock, horror - it's the one-night-stand & neither of them have been able to forget that night. There's lots of banter, aka foreplay, that goes a tad to far; the nasty ex reappears & tries to get Clare to take him back, by fair means & foul; Declan messes up; Clare does too...
You'll have to read the book to find out more. Go on, do it, you won't be disappointed but you will laugh, cry & smile.

One night at a frat party, this two meet after he saves her from her cheating ex who was being rough with her.
Declan is your typical womanizer, he offers Claire only one night of pleasure. But he can't stop thinking about her four months after that night
Fate has strange ways of making things happen. Claire begins her summer internship in Declan's firm. And wouldn't you know who her new boss is?
They now have to figure out how to behave because not only do they have to get along at work... their parents are getting married.

With a few tense twists, Kin Linwood tells a hot and fast-read story. I loved the main characters: Declan is scorching hot and Claire is no pushover.

I really enjoyed this book. It had funny moments, angst and lots of steamy parts. I really liked both characters even though Declan could be a bit of a jerk but it was because he was feeling things he hadn't felt before. Claire was so torn because she didn't want to be drawn to Declan but he was like an addiction for her.

It is a fun story and I recommend it for people who like steamy parts with their romance.

Ehhhhh

It has potential. Honestly, it would’ve been better if they didn’t become complete dumb@sses every time the ex has a scene. Author likes to throw the ex in and have him pull sh*t out his @ss just to create drama. MCs then acts out of character and goes with the stupid ex’s flow. Like when Claire agrees to go to the ex’s parent’s anniversary because she don’t want them to be sad on their day. Seriously?! Can the author be more creative in creating drama then to just have agree because it’s the easy route to lead to drama. It’s not like the had a mutual breakup.

I seriously dislike Claire’s character any time it involves the ex. First off, who doesn’t block their ex after the opening scene?? Second, Who picks up their cellphone, AT WORK, without checking who’s calling?? Third, she still keeps talking to the ex even after the anniversary fiasco. Talk about a attention seeking wh*re.

Ugh, and the whole Declan wedding video fiasco. Another”Ex makes an appearance” dumb@ss move. How the ex even knows or gets into the wedding (because it’s being held at a castle, therefore private property, but we’ll pretend he somehow manage to crash the party) and get to the tech area to plug in the video, without anyone stopping him?? Declan catches him inserting something into the laptop and he really couldn’t put two and two together??? He was just kicked his ass two days ago because of a homemade video. He wasn’t smart enough to knock that @sshole the fk out (for who knows what the fk he planned on doing there) or pull all the wires on the laptop or smash it. Instead he stood there like a fking idiot and just watch the video play and then hit pause. Seriously now Author??? Can you make them any fking dumber??

Spoiler warning but I think it’s all in the synopsis of the book anyway.

Okay SO. I know how reading books like this looks. However, take it for what you will, but it’s really not as taboo as one might think. Both Claire and Declan are ADULTS. Like full fledged adults in their early and late 20s. They meet as a one night stand, expect to never see each other again, and then as the trope goes, their parents are getting married AND Declan is her new boss. You can’t just expect two, CONSENTING adults who met each other before they even KNEW what was going on between their parents to just stop when they realize they have something just because their parents are getting married. Is it taboo? Maybe a little, but not nearly as taboo as everyone makes it out to be. They didn’t grow up together and neither live with their parents. There is no relation. The story is actually really cute, and pretty hot. They have a great banter back and forth, and there’s actually a real plot, which is so hard to find in romance novels. I’m actually really impressed and look forward to reading the rest this author has to offer.

Great chemistry and funny. They don't always go together. But this book also has depth. Claire and Declan (particularly Declan) need to adjust to their parents getting remarried. Both children don't really like the other's parent and Declan is a real bastard about it. It also deals with the ups and downs of an office romance. Beyond that it explores how difficult it can be to be a lawyer. You have to represent a client to the best of your ability even if it means you despise the client and believe they should have to pay for what they have done.

I love the prank wars. Claire's interaction with the receptionist is hysterical and the lawyer jokes were bad but still funny.

A sophisticated romance with plenty of spark and laughs.

Great romance...

With actual chemistry. The stepbrother trope isn't my favorite, but this was a great story. Even though Claire got on my nerves at times, I loved her and Declan together. I especially loved Declan. The problematic climax really kissed me off. (Claire did) The smut was steamy, and there were even a couple parts I swooned at My favorite: “I’ve fucked up a lot of things. All my life. I don’t usually mean to, but it happens anyway. I’ve got no one to blame but myself. I usually don’t care, but us? I don’t want to fuck this up. Please don’t let me fuck this up.”I

Claire and Declan

One thing I love about Ms Linwoods stories are they all feel different from other books I’ve read. Some authors tend to write the same stories basically or same wording just different characters. I throughly enjoyed Bossy. Claire and Declan’s pranks on each other are funny. Their chemistry is smoking. 4 out of 5 stars but that’s probably just my preference vs writing skills. Didn’t care too much for the proposal…. If someone proposed to me in the nude like that I would probably be pissed. But that’s just me. Declan tends to be a little more on the immature side even though he’s 27. But then again thus is life, right? Overall great story though.

Sexy and Hilarious

This book was a combination of naughty sexiness to absolute hilarious. It's all about what happens when your one night stand turns into your future brother in law and Boss. Quirky Lawyer jokes and down and dirty pranks will leave you giggling and covering your mouth in shock while sexy scenes leave you panting. This was a great mix of both and an easy read!

Hot and hilarious

Claire and Declan are hilarious as they take jabs at each other, and their pranks are so much fun.
The characters are amazing, especially Carl. Michael not so much. This is a fun read and I couldn't put it down.
There are H. O. T. scenes between them, but also profound emotions regarding their pasts, and it was fun watching them grow and learn that between hate and love there is only a very fine line.
Definitely a great read
