Within the palace walls, Kayden has discovered that things are not as she expected. Is there more to the royal family, or . . . is there a more sinister depth to Drey’s mission?

Dvarius thought his mind was made up — but will he have the resolve to see it through?

JC Morrows is the bestselling author of the young adult dystopian series: Order of the MoonStone and the post-apocalyptic Frozen World series. A believer in sharing knowledge, JC is passionate about both stoking the creative fire in young minds and doing all she can to help authors of all experience levels excel.

A true storyteller, JC is one of those authors who grew up thinking it was perfectly normal to make up wild and fantastic tales, talk to people who weren't there, and look at the world from a perspective that no one else understood.

These days she records those fantastical tales (when her resistant laptop lets her) . . . and the people who aren't there . . . well, she still talks to them. She tells their stories and even argues with them on occasion. And she still sees the world in a way that makes sense to no one else, but that's OK because she is a teller of tales, a dreamer of dreams, a traveler of made-up worlds!

Though she doesn't write strictly "Christian" fiction... as a true believer, she gives God all of the glory for her talent and ability!

"And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it." Habakkuk 2:2 KJV

A Treacherous Decision begins shortly after where A Reluctant Assassin left off. Kayden is slowly recovering from the wounds she received in her fight with a mysterious intruder who attempted to kill Dvarius. Will she survive? Are her feelings for the prince real, or are they just silly emotions that she’s allowing to get the best of her? Should she carry out her mission, or tell Dvarius who she really is—an assassin?

This book definitely ups the tension in the series! Drey, the order’s leader, is growing impatient with how long Kayden is taking to complete her task. Kayden is second-guessing her feelings for Dvarius. And the longer she holds off on making a decision, the more likely it is that someone will learn of her true identity.

As with the previous installments of the series, I loved Catarine’s character. We also get to meet Dvarius’ mother, the Queen, for the first time, which was interesting!

I did have to knock off a star for a passionate kissing scene that was a little uncomfortable (also as I thought the characters reasons for stopping before going "too far" are never made clear; I can deduce why, but I would have rather this been spelled out a little more). I also expected there to be a little more in the way of Dvarius witnessing to Kayden, but hopefully we'll see that in the next book! :)

Oh, yeah, and the cliff-hanger ending is killing me….

A Treacherous Decision, the second book in author J.C. Morrow's Order of the Moonstone series starts right where the first book, A Reluctant Assassin leaves off. If you haven't read these books yet or are wondering what they're all about I HIGHLY suggest you give them a try. I mean yoou can't go wrong with assassins and steampunk.

Secrets, romance, and suspense fill these pages and the world J.C. built could have been fleshed out more but I didn't let it bother me. Hence the full 5 stars. Kayden and Prince Dvarius however, are fully fleshed out. So much so that they feel like real people to me.

I feel like if this series get the mainstream attention it deserves that the Order of the Moonstone series could be the next big thing in YA Fantasy.

I am in awe right now of the book I just read. Is it possible to write another book in a series and make it better then the first one? Yes it can be done and JC Morrow has done it with an explosive story so captivating that I didn't stop reading till I finished the book. Kayden had one mission and that was to kill the Prince. As the new book opens in the series, we find out that Kayden has done quite the opposite. Did she do the unthinkable? Can she truly have feelings for a man she was ordered to kill? I felt her anguish as she discovers that she failed at her mission, but is secretly happy that she was able to save the Prince from harm. Will she have to pay for her failure ?

JC has given readers another book that will keep you on the edge of your seat as the action is heightened and the suspense more intense. I felt myself in the castle walking down the halls and seeing the guards posted at their assignments. I felt the urgency in Kayden as she realized that the Prince was in danger once again. The tender moments between Kayden and the Prince are written with real emotion that JC expressed with depth and grace. The action at the ending of the book is fast paced and truly a masterful work of art that explodes with intensity. Well done JC Morrows. Once again you have written a book that captures the true spirit of a gifted author.

JC Morrows is an amazing writer!

I was drawn into this story immediately — Kayden lying on a hospital bed, with Dvarius sitting beside her, not knowing if she would recover. Oh, my goodness!

I felt as if I were in the room with them — and I didn’t stop reading until the end. Actually, I was perched on the edge of my chair — unable to sit still, at least through the first few chapters.

I was thrilled to learn that book two picks up where book one ended — with Kayden getting stabbed!

I read somewhere that it isn’t good form to end a book on a cliffhanger, but I remember all my favorite television shows ending on a cliffhanger; good grief — some of them ended the season that way!

Does anyone else remember watching Dallas, when JR was shot?

I don’t mind a cliffhanger. For me, it adds thrill and intrigue to the story . . . and makes me eager to read the next book in the series. There are lots of secrets in books one and two that haven’t been revealed, but that just makes it more exciting to read.

Will Kayden survive? Will she be the new Princess/Queen? Who else is in the castle, intent upon killing the Prince — or was Kayden the intended victim? I can’t say . . . I really can’t.

If you enjoy YA fantasy, suspense, intrigue, and romance — whatever you do, don’t miss this series!

God Bless You!

J.C. Morrows does it again. A Treacherous Decision is a wonderful follow-up to book 1 of the Order of the MoonStone series, a dystopian story set in a future U.S. that looks a bit more like the past than the present. Seriously, if you haven't picked up these books yet, they are the NEXT BIG FANDOM!

Without spoiling the plot, A Treacherous Decision picks up right where book 1 ends, and we get to see how the prince reacts to Kayden's actions in the closet (I'll leave it at that for those who haven't read book 1 yet). There are many un-spoken secrets that hang in the balance, any one of which could blow-up any chance of Kayden and Dvarius having a future together.

Kayden and Dvarius are wonderfully written characters with unique voices that captivate the reader. If you are looking for a great fandom to get a bit lost in, this is the book for you.

If only she could have found it so... Kayden's mission should have been simple - she was sent to kill the prince, not to fall in love with him!! Now she knows she is in trouble with the boss and with her heart! Her or the Prince?? I would have been sitting on the edge of my chair wanting to know how she was going to handle this life/death decision, so... Thanks to the author for a glimpse into the next book! Great series for young readers! And older... I'm enjoying it too!

I am torn. I am so torn over this book. I want everyone to know that I take reviewing these books seriously. I ponder every rating to every review long and hard before y’all ever see a rating.
I don’t know what to say about this book. I enjoyed the first book, but this one wasn’t as good in my opinion. I wish that there was more Spiritual Content…Dvarius witnessing to Kayden would have been really nice. The kisses were just too much in this one. That said, I will continue the series in hopes of more Spiritual Content and to see what happens next.

This great sequel starts off exactly where A Reluctant Assassin ended so I was glad for that :) The start of the book is kind of slow because Kayden is recovering from an injury, but it was interesting to see that Prince Dvarius has many questions regarding her identity that I didn't think he would consider. Alfreid also shows up AKA Sir Malcolm and Kayden's uncle and he also has to figure out the status of Kayden's mission and how he should proceed. I'm very interested in knowing what he will decide.

Lady Catarine is by far the greatest character to me. She goes from being a timid candidate to being Kayden's most loyal friend and companion. She also becomes spunky in the process and I wish I had a friend like her, just love her :)

We learn more about the Queen in this book and that was also a joy in Kayden's journey.

There are still many unknowns to discover with this story and I was very surprised by Kayden's response to something that happens. Everything about her heart has changed on this mission, but still not sure how she's going to handle what's next and looking forward to more of this story. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a clean YA book with characters who are filled with heart.

Once again, JC Morrows has gripped me with her words. The skill in which she pairs words together to create an alternate world is nothing short of amazing. The way she snares the reader from the opening page, increasing the tension with every turn of page, until you are forced to stop because you've reached the end, is maddening.

A Treacherous Decision ( Order of The Moonstone- book 2 )
By: JC Morrows

This is the second book of the Order of The Moonstone series. JC Morrows is a new author to me . I have read only one other books and it was the first in the series. Her stories are different from what I have been use to reading. I will say That I enjoyed A Treacherous Decision. It starts out a little slow , but also starts back up where A Reluctant Assassin ended, which I was proud of. I was drawn into the story right from the start, and was hooked. Morrows weaves her story and characters so that you cannot read fast enough to see what is going to happen next. In some places of the story I was holding my breath till I read more. I have to say that this book is my favorite in the series. Kayden has a secret she has not told Prince Dvarius about. She has been sent on a mission to do a certain job, can she carry her job out since she has gotten to know The Prince? This is one of those page turners when you get started you do not want to stop till the end.

JC Morrows has done it again with her writing of A Treacherous Decision. I was drawn into the story of Kayden and Prince Dvarius from the first page. JC has creativity as an author. As a reader, I was right in the moment with the characters feeling all the emotions from love to anguish. Will Kayden be the new Princess for Prince Dvarius or is the Order going to destroy her opportunity at loving the Prince? Order of the Moonstone series is a must be read series if you enjoy fiction with romance and suspense. I'm looking forward to the next book in this amazing series.

I received an ARC of A Treacherous Decision for an honest review. This is definitely a 5 star book. Way to go JC Morrows!

Book 2 of the series; "A Treacherous Decision" picks up right where "A Reluctant Assassin" left off so don't worry that you might miss anything.

The book is written with hints scattered throughout so that you can read it as a standalone or out of order, but I always suggest reading the series in order.

In this case, you should start with "A Perilous Assignment" (available FREE on kindle, B&N, itunes and kobo) then read "A Reluctant Assassin".

"A Cunning Masquerade" actually takes place between chapters 23 and 24 of "A Reluctant Assassin" so you could pause and read it then or just read it after book 1 before you continue on to this book.

Intrigue, romance....sigh. I love it when I am pulled into a story and enjoy every minute of it. Dvarius and Kayden are two characters that you hope will succeed and pull themselves out of the mess that others have made around them.

Kayden is an assassin who is assigned to kill Prince Dvarius. She didn't plan on falling in love with him and protecting him when faced with danger. In her defense, she was given some wrong information before she began the assignment. All of this is explained in the first book, A Reluctant Assassin. I enjoyed the first book, and would strongly suggest that you read it first. I would suggest that you just read it, because it was fun to read.

There are many questions in this book. The first is whether Kayden and Dvarius will be honest with each other. Most of the deception is on Kayden's side, but I don't know that Dvarius is an open book. He is sincere and tries to do his best. He has a strong faith in God, but lives in a time where it is looked down upon to be a believer.

The book is not the best writing, but it is full of wonderful plots. There are many things going on that it is easy to get lost in the story and want to know what will happen next. This is a series that I plan to continue to read.

The book has some violence and kissing. There is also a religious aspect, but I didn't find it preaching to me. Very enjoyable book to read.

This is the second book in this series and starts right in where the first book ended. Kayden wasn't supposed to fall in love with the prince, but she has learned that she wasn't given correct information about this assignment. Things have gone a bit haywire and she's not sure who to trust. Based on what happened at the end of book one, Dvarius has questions about Kayden and is anxious to get some answers. But Kayden isn't too anxious to give them to him.

I like both Dvarius and Kayden and hope their relationship can work. Her assignment is a huge complication, though. We learned more about Kayden's past which gave some insight into her current behavior and what she feels she deserves. The Queen makes more of an appearance in this book so we get to know her better as well. Kayden's friendship with one of her rivals continues to develop. Kayden makes a decision at the end that will change everything and then it ends on a cliffhanger!

I liked this book more than the first one. It was a little slower in the beginning as Kayden was recuperating but still moved at a fairly rapid pace. I would highly recommend reading the first book in this series before reading this one. Overall, I like this series and will definitely read the final book to see how it all ends!

I received a copy of this book via Singing Librarian Book Tours for an honest review. My opinion is 100% my own.

It's been two days since the attempt on Prince Dvarious’ life. Kayden is in a coma after she took an arrow in the back while saving the Prince. Meanwhile, the Prince refuses to leave her bedside.

Dvarious is shocked and bewildered following the assassination attempt. Each time he recalls how Kayden managed to effortlessly disarm the assailant before succumbing to her injury has him questioning who she really is.

Despite his doubts, he wastes no time in proposing to her. Having realised her feelings for the Prince, Kayden starts to feel the net close around her deception. Torn between revealing the truth to the Prince and facing the wrath of Drey and the Order, Kayden makes a desperate decision.

A Treacherous Decision is the second instalment of the Order of the Moonstone series which picks up two days following the events of the previous book. Despite its exciting premise, I feel that this author has once again failed to deliver. The first half of the book was slow and repetitive with little plot development. Most of the action seems to take place in the heads of our main characters whereby they constantly second guess themselves and their feelings for the other.

There are hints of a bigger conspiracy in the background and if readers can get past the repetitive emotions of the MC to the deeper story they may well find it rewarding. This series was not for me, however.

I received an advanced free audible copy of The Reluctant Assassin and I am voluntarily reviewing it. Krys Janae’s narration was warm, clear and concise with excellent pacing.

My review:

So while there were quite a few things I didn't like, I still enjoyed this book.
It was just as fast paced as the first one, and made you want to keep reading. :)
And while I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first, it was still a very enjoyable, fast, read :)

I'm going to hide the rest of my review, because, spoilers XD

This book grabs from the first page and draws you into it's story. It is a wonderful, suspenseful love story and very hard to put down. I didn't read the first in the series, but will be doing that so it was a little hard to follow at first, but well worth figuring out.

3.75/5 Stars

This book begins right where the last book ended. J.C. Morrows comments at the beginning that she tries to write these as standalone books-however, I feel that one should just read them in order.

Kayden is an assassin sent to kill Prince Dvarius-however, she finds that she has fallen for him and vice versa. This novel was the continuation of their love story, and how she would tell Dvarius who she really is.

The book is a rather quick read. The most aggravating part of this book was the first half. The author reiterated in several different ways how the prince finds out what is wrong with Kayden. First it mentions how she was put into an induced coma, then it mentions her injuries and that the doctor decided her treatment, then it tells you how he found out about that while esplaining all her injuries and such again. It seemed like it was just trying to fill a word count.

After Kayden finally wakes up, the book really starts progressing. We get to see a new character develop while also seeing how Kayden's and Dvarius's relationship grows. I have to say, it's rather entertaining reading the sexual tension between the two. J.C. Morrows tries to stick to the Christian YA aspect by (not so subtly) wording their kisses and actions in a way that younger readers would not interpret as sexual. However, it was quite obvious (from an adult standpoint) that she was showing readers that they have sexual desires for each other.

Overall a very good cheesy yet romantic YA novel.

JC continues to give us a suspenseful love story that tangles around the premise of identity and monarchical power struggles. Though it starts off slow due to the recuperation of Kayden's character in terms of action, there's plenty of sentimental impact in lieu of it. The action builds through-out the story, and yet again to another cliffhanger! I'm really not a fan of cliffhangers, but it does make for a climatic end to an episodic story.

Prince Dvarius has finally found the woman he wishes to marry; but that woman is an assassin who was sent to kill him! But when Kayden discovers that she has feelings for the prince, will she be able to complete her mission?
This is essentially the plot of A Treacherous Decision, which picks up where A Reluctant Assassin ends. It is a fairly intriguing premise, but unfortunately, it is not executed very well. The primary action of this story takes place inside the characters’ heads, but even that does not amount to much; or rather, it is really the same thing over and over again, the same thoughts agonizingly poured over by each character: who should I marry? Do I love Kayden? Does Kayden love me? Even when this question is answered, Dvarius continues to ask it. The same goes for Kayden: do I love the prince? Does he love me? What should I do? Can I kill him if I love him? Granted, in the “real” world, we may agonize over our own thoughts and feelings as much or more as the characters do in A Treacherous Decision, but the thoughts and questions they are asking are not all that interesting. It may have perhaps helped if the book had been read over a period of time, as opposed to two days (that is due more to the reviewer’s choice rather than to the interest of the book). Perhaps this style of book is more suited to the romance lover’s collection, and that may be the primary issue here. That being said, the book is not necessarily classified as a romance, but rather as teen/speculative/inspirational/steam theme. Romance does not even come into the descriptor! But that is primarily first and foremost what the book is. There is nothing wrong with a romance novel(la); but that presupposes that the book is well-written, and the fine craft of A Treacherous Decision must be called into question. This is primarily because of the repetitive nature of the story; and nothing really happens throughout the book. There are moments where the author seems to be hinting at something larger, but they receive hardly any mention, and therefore the importance of these instances is called into question. It could be supposed that there will be a major payoff at some later point in the series; but if the reader cannot get past this book, it may be all for naught.
A style issue should be placed here: the edition of the book this reviewer read was published in a font where the letters of all the words are capitalized, with the normally capitalized letters a little larger. While somewhat intriguing, it does not lend itself to easy reading. Such a style choice was perhaps worth testing out in such a short book, but reading three-to-four hundred pages or more of such text would soon become wearisome.
Overall, the book is a bit tough to get through, but the main plot is intriguing. If the reader is able to get past the repetitive emotions of the protagonists to see the deeper story, they may find it worth their while.

So, this book is the second in a series loosely based on Cinderella - the concept being 'What if Cinderella was sent to the ball to kill the Prince?' A great stoyline - not the first time it's been explored.
However, I'm not sure the concept was explored as well as it could've been. The first book (A Reluctant Assassin) spends a lot of time on romance and the characters thinking and talking instead of acting. Only near the end do things get good. This book pretty much follows the same format. I hope the third picks it up a bit.
But it's still a nice little read - quite quick to finish. Maybe it was intended for more of an early teenage audience, as opposed to a 24 year old! ;)

(If I remember correctly, I think it might be loosely Christian too?)

Sweet story and an easy read.

Wonderful book. Yet again, a compelling story with wonderful characters. My only complaint, and it isn't really a complaint, is that the books all seem to add these long thoughts, prayers, and speeches about God. I have nothing against talking about and loving God (I have faith and believe in Him myself) but sometimes it seems very forced - which is a little annoying. It isn't really all that bad and it isn't long or drawn out enough for me to wish the author would stop. Just a tiny bit forced or seeming to be out of place. But again, this book is so well done in other ways that I would read it again regardless.

Do Not Recommend

While I wouldn't recommend this series, it's one I need to finish just to have closure. The plot is thin, the characters limited and uncomplicated, and there is a preponderance of ellipses that is truly baffling. Sentence structure proves awkward, even more so when it is conveying someone's thoughts. The series also pushes a Christian agenda. Wish I had known that before buying book 1; I would have been able to avoid the series all together then. And don't forget the insta-love romance. This series has everything I dislike but I need to read on to close it out

Run, kill or die?

Good, but I'm ready for some secrets to actually be told. The story leans a little heavy on internal monologue, and I'd prefer a little more dialogue.

After reading A Reluctant Assassin, I wasn't sure I'd pick up the next book. I was a bit disappointed in the first one. But, the cliff hanger got me in the end, so I picked up the next one.

I'm glad I did. I enjoyed this book better than the first one, probably because I knew what to expect more than the first one.

Things I really liked:
- this book flowed much better than the first one. Only two really important scenes were skipped this time around instead of several.
- the characters were better defined than the first one.
- I had a better handle on what was going on this time around, though I still have a lot of questions and I'm not really sure what everyone's motives are.

Things that still could use improvement:
- The first book bugged me because it felt like scenes that were important to the character development and plot were cut. This book only had two such scenes. One, Dvarius mentions later that he loves Kayden's temper after she threw a platter at him, but we aren't shown this scene. Why not? I would've loved to see the characters' react in that! I feel like including it would help me understand why the characters actually love each other. The second scene that was cut had several chapters building up to some ceremony the queen planned for Kayden, but the actual ceremony isn't in the book. I didn't learn until later what that ceremony was about. It threw me, since the book hyped the ceremony so much going in.
- I still have no idea why the characters like each other. They know absolutely nothing about each other. They rarely talk to each other.
- Kayden's character still seems a little undefined. We're told she's a strong assassin who always gets the job done. Then she breaks down in tears randomly. It seemed like the wrong type of response according to the rest of her character.
- Dvarius's faith gets even less attention this time around. It's mentioned all of once the entire book, I think. For a book that is marketed as Christian, this is a little puzzling. If you're looking for a book with a lot of spiritual depth, this isn't it.

Overall, it is still an enjoyable book and I'll probably go on to read the next ones. The plot is good. The characters are compelling enough, even with their faults. Considering how much this book was an improvement over the last book, I can't wait to see where the author goes from here.

What I love most about this book is its cover. I remember when it was released, and I thought it was absolutely stunning!

If you've read the previous book and/or short stories in the series, the storyline is somewhat predictable (particularly if you keep the title in mind through the story), but it's still a fun read - you may know generally how it's going to go, but are not sure how it'll get there.

While I enjoy the prince's character immensely, and his expression of faith, I wish that this was more developed with other characters in the book - especially Kayden, given the way the overarching story is going.

Regardless, it's a good, fun read, and I'd definitely recommend it. In fact, it was probably my favorite book of the series so far! I was particularly glad to have all the books and short stories (with the exception of as-yet-unreleased Book 3) in the series, so I could keep reading. It would be super hard to wait for any others!

The prince absolutely reminds me of Richard Madden's Prince in the 2015 "Cinderella" movie, and I enjoyed having the visual throughout the series. I still haven't mentally cast Kayden, but her character to me is a mix of a lighter Katniss Everdeen and America Singer (from Kiera Cass's "Selection" series, which this series reminds me of a whole lot as it is).

The book is suspenseful and engaging, and I was sad to come to the end - especially because Book 3 hasn't been released yet. I was able to binge-read Books 1-2 and the 2 short stories, so now that I've hit the end of the road for the time being, I'm not quite sure what to do with myself!

The series itself is clean and engagingly written. Can't wait for book 3!

Disclaimer: I received a free copy of the book in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

This series started out with so much potential. But it all came crashing down in this one. I'm so sad!
It picks up right where it left off in book 2. This is another cliffhanger.
Kayden & Dvarius' relationship grows to the point of engagement. I don't understand how Dvarius could engage himself to a woman he doesn't really know. There are red flags for him everywhere but he just ignores them? And Kayden is ready to throw "her love" away for the order? Is it really love then?
I'm very frustrated and won't continue the series. I love the covers of all the books in the series (10 books).

2025 - Well, I'm continuing the series regardless as part of my goal for this year, "Finish previously started series." So, here we go! Better the second time around!
