Doomsday for Disco Goblins

Rate this book
This is an ACE of ASIN:B008L8YYFA Goblin Night Fever

An unexpected school trip leads rebellious teen Angelica into a hidden world buried deep beneath the streets of London. Here she will encounter many unexpected dangers and unusual creatures. However, none could be stranger than Plopbottle, a timid goblin who longs to escape to the surface – although his fantasies of topside life are a little out of date (he still thinks that glitter balls, roller-discos and dodgy 70’s lapels are the latest thing).

In time they will learn about the construction of a vast war machine, which will eventually rise from the earth taking the heart the capital with it.

Together this unlikely duo will have to find a way to stop the machine, which threatens to engulf the world in a planet wide war, and at the same time take on a ruthless king and rescue Angelica’s schoolmates before they are baked alive inside a giant pie.

Hi, I'm Indigo Lane. After a recent separation I am currently residing in a static caravan on the edge of a field in Wiltshire UK, not far from Stonehenge. My small (but cosy) home is shared by Meldrew - a lovely if somewhat eccentric ginger tom cat and a tame crow, as yet unnamed, which visits most days and will now take food from my hand. I'm employed in the local library and cycle to work, although that's more for financial than health reasons. My hobbies include reading, writing and not tidying up.

Ok I'll admit it upfront. I'm a snob and when the book arrived from a print on demand house, I didn't have great expectations.

Ohhh how wrong I was, I opened the first page to see how "bad" could it be and was immediately sucked in. In fact before I'd realized it I'd read through the first 3 chapters.

For kids and teens books to succeed they need to be accessible to adult audiences also. Admit it how many out there have read all of the Harry Potter series.

The text is fantastic from the very start. "Something that looked almost exactly like the Klamp family cat crept in with the early morning mist. As the mist twirled and twiddled into and out of the driveways of Belmont Road, it stayed close to the garden walls. When the mist turned the Klamp gatepost and seeped across the manicured lawn, it wasn't far behind. then, as the mist teased the kitchen doorstep and tickled the feet of the Terracotta warriors standing guard on either side, it nosed open the cat-flap and stepped cautiously inside"

Plopbottle, the tiny goblin with big dreams remained my favorite.

Indigo also exhibits a true understanding of this age group with passages such as the one featuring Angelica's alarm that rings "CRASH CRASH CRASH .... NASTY ZOMBIE SMASH"

Sooo lesson learned you can't always judge a book by it's publisher. While the ready availability of smaller publishers increases the bandwidth of reading materials, it also allows great authors who may have been overlooked by the "big" boys an opportunity to gain a following

Thank you very much Indigo Lane

This book is suitable for readers of all ages; well, from 8 to 80 anyway; it's brillinatly and beautifully written. Don't start reading it if you've got a busy day ahead though because it's absolutely un-put-down-able

While the book was easy-to-read, I couldn't get into the story. The characters were unappealing and I disliked the dialect that some of the characters used. In addition, I found a couple of grammatical errors that annoyed me. This book just wasn't my type of book.

I didin't like it at all. I think it's very childish.
