Blood+ #2

Blood+, Vol. 2

Rate this book
Saya seems, from all appearances, to be an ordinary teenage girl suffering from amnesia. Living with a foster family just outside an American military base in Okinawa, Japan, she soon discovers that she is anything but normal. She learns she is an apparently immortal warrior, who has ties dating to ancient Egyptian times if not earlier. For centuries she has been locked in a battle against a race of vampiric creatures known as Chiropterans, monsters that seem intent on destroying all life on Earth.
In an epic tale that crisscrosses the globe from the streets of Japan to Vietnam, Russia, France, England, and ultimately North Carolina and New York City, Saya battles to save the world while searching for the secret of her lost memories

Okay, okay, so we have learnt a little more about who the enemy is and saw a flashback to some trauma related to Saya's memories which was interesting.

I feel like things are going fast, and there isn't enough of certain parts, but very enjoyable!
There are some unnecessary nude shots and boob shots (plus a WEIRD AF scene with her "brother")!

It really seemed to rush through parts that the anime took it's time with. Hopefully the next volume doesn't gloss over all the character development that was supposed to be happening.

Review for complete series

In this Blood: The Last Vampire spin-off, Saya has no memory of her previously blood-filled life; she is now an ordinary high schooler who bickers with her siblings. But it's not long until her past catches up with her and she is once again fighting against blood-sucking monsters. But having lived as an ordinary human has changed her perception of the world and humans.

Blood+ is yet another work in the Blood universe that I have purely picked up to know more about Saya who I enjoyed in Blood C. It's not a manga I would usually pick as I am no major fan of horror and splatter. In the case of this adaptation, I also wouldn't have picked it up due to the art. There's nothing wrong with the art at all - it's neatly drawn and well proportioned - it just doesn't appeal to me personally. I also don't appreciate Saya's short hairstyle, I always considered her long hair iconic to her.

I felt that Blood+ was more character-driven than the other adaptations I am familiar with. In a way, that's good - I care more for a character-driven plot than lots of gore. That being said, while there was a solid cast of characters with distinct personalities, perhaps 5 volumes was too short to explore them thoroughly. At the same time, I am glad that it wasn't longer as, ultimately, it wasn't my cup of tea.

I would say that this is definitely not a bad manga and probably pretty good if picked up by the intended audience. For me, it was an ok manga that I merely read as a means to an end rather than being genuinely invested in this version of Saya.

Me gusta.

I really hate when the anime doesn’t go with the book. The manga just explained so much more on what went down for the little brother. And first of all, wasn’t Saya’s first “villain” just the French dude? It wasn’t a kid. Now I’m confused because there are new characters that were never introduced in the anime.

This is moving way faster than the anime and is cutting out some of my favorite subplots, alas, but it’s interesting to see an alternative route to get to the same end!

Blood+ is set after the movie where Saya our Chiropterans slayer from the film has amnesia and doesn’t recall what happened. She’s been living with a human family that she accepts as her own, but things aren’t always easy when you aren’t just a normal girl. When Chiropterans start to show up Saya will have to face the reality of who she really is and what her destiny is but at least she doesn’t have to face it alone. With the support of the Red Shield Saya will set off on an action-packed adventure to stop the rising threat of the Chiropterans before it’s too late and save all of humanity.

I find Saya to be an interesting character a supernatural vampire slayer who happens to not remember that she’s a vampire slayer but the only one who can stop them. I like her as a character but her life living as a human seems to be getting in the way of her accepting her true fate stopping the Chiropterans. The Red shield and Saya are teamed up to stop the Chiropteran threat but she hasn’t stepped away from her human family yet either. Instead of keeping them close so that her younger brother ends up kidnapped by one of the chevaliers of Diva. We’ve also gotten to see a little more of Hagi who is the Chevalier of Saya.

It’s been years since I saw the anime or movie and decided now that I’ve been reading manga that this one had to be on the list. While the concept is similar to the anime the story has slight differences which leave you guessing how it will play out. The artwork is great it’s matches the anime making it easy to be sucked into the story. I really like the characters in the Blood+ manga each character has a story that revolves around Saya in one form or another. I’m curious to finish the series.

Blood+, Volume 2 begins with one of the funniest lines:
"Still trailing after Saya like poop on a goldfish, eh, Hagi?"
This gives me a visual that just cracks me up.

Volume 2 picks up right where Blood+ 1 left off, and it immediately sucks you in. We learn the mystery behind Charles and why he has such deep hatred for Saya. In the scenes with the kidnapped Riku, we get a glimpse of Charles' vulnerability and he's almost likable. In fact, you even begin to pity him.

All sorts of intriguing things happen when Saya travels to Vietnam to find Riku. No matter how dicey a situation gets, Hagi is always there protecting and supporting Saya ... almost to a fault, but I guess that brings us back to the goldfish poop line.

The beautiful artistry is truly captivating. One of my favorite scenes is when Saya's father is reflecting on her past and the image depicts her happily devouring food. I love the emotion captured on Saya's face, and it just makes me happy.

The pace of the book is so quick. Before you know it, you're at the end salivating for more. I can't wait to find out who this Diva is. I am quickly becoming addicted to this series. I'm sad that there are only three more volumes left. I don't want it to end.

More of Saya's story unfolds as her memory returns from her past. The stakes are higher now as her foster brother, Riku, has been kidnapped and she's determined to find him and get him back to safety. Saya ends up working along with the Red Shield, an organization whose been trying to stop the Chiropterans as well.

This manga has Saya traveling to Vietnam, which is good because the change in scenery drives home how this epidemic is expanding. Saya has a lot more on her plate then you're led to believe in the first volume. The action and violence are still there. There isn't as much Kai as in the first novel, but he isn't really a favorite of mine anyway so I didn't miss him. Nothing is taboo in this series as children are subjected to just as much violence and tragedy.

I'm a big Haji fan, so I enjoy seeing him be Saya's rock. They have an underlying bond with each other that builds throughout the series. Unlike volume 1, this volume somewhat combines several episodes from the anime though, again, there are obvious plot differences.

This volume could be a standalone, but since this series is only 5 volumes, it's worth reading consecutively.

The story deepens as Saya learns more about her past. Charles is testing Saya by trying to recreate a massacre from the Vietnam War Saya took part in, only with vampires. It seems however that Chales is merely a pawn in a far larger game. We also have a bit of a love triange emerging between Saya, her loyal follower Hagi and her foster brother Kai. Some really nice artwork, the blacked out monster faces reminiscent of Hellsing. Charles is brilliant in this one and we start to see his softer side as he interacts with his human kidnap victim Saya's foster brother Riku. A nice parallel to Saya - we get to see a little of her humanity as well in her loyalty to her family and her horror as she learns chiropterans were once humans.

The first volume had more of Saya and her amnesia. This volume had more action and fighting. Charles kidnaps Riku, Saya's younger brother, and uses him to lure Saya into his trap. I was very surprised that we were shown a softer side to Charles and let us see a kind side to him that longs for someone to love him without fear. Charles has quickly become one of my favorites. Kai wasn't in this volume much, but he did do his headbutting-thing again- but this time with a table. He sure likes to smash his skull around. At the end of this volume, Saya regains her memories, with the help of Hagi, and she is now on a mission to kill Diva. More mystery to unravel, but I'm excited to read more!

Its been a while since I saw this anime but I recall liking it. I feel like this is a condensed version, but that may be my imagination, I don't recall how many eps the show had it or even if I saw them all.

The art work is generally nice to look at but at times a bit bloody. A nice read but not particularly stunning even though I like most of the characters.

As memories keep surfacing, the Chiropterans keep pulling closer and closer to her life. Disrupting what could have been the regular life of a regular girl. Problem is, Saya is no regular girl. After her brother Riku is kidnapped, the search begins to find him, and it only leads them closer to Saya's unfortunate past.

The fight scenes don't seem to translate well. And the story feels condensed and rushed. Since it's only 5 volumes long I'll continue, but I'm not really setting high hopes. What I am interested in, is the differences between the Manga and the Anime. Like Charles/Karl, they're basically two different characters between the two. And I must admit I'm liking him better in the manga.

Still a good story, but I feel like it's dragging a little. Rehashing things I already know, and not telling me the things I want to know about these characters. Suspense is one thing, over-dramatizing is another. This title is walking the fine line between.

This volume in particular captures perfectly what I want in a vampire manga.
It can be dark and bloody, but at the same time it isn't grimdark and depressing.
The story line is amazing!
I recommend this to any fan of vampires who like their vampires powerful and dark.

I really enjoyed this volume. Riku is kidnapped, so Saya must travel to save him. Her memories are beginning to return as she sees places she recognises, until she finally remembers everything at the end of the book.

I started reading this series because it got good reviews, but it is nowhere near as good as Oishinbo. So I'm not getting any more volumes of this one from the library. Done!
