Larenzo’s Christmas Baby by Kate Hewitt can be read as a standalone despite it being part of One Night With Consequences Series
Kate Hewitt always writes intense and incredibly emotional stories with strong and passionate characters and Emma Leighton and Larenzo Cavelli’s book contains exactly all those elements.
One night pregnancy and secret baby tropes have been around for ages but the author adds something unusual and interesting to this story.
The 1st page - totally pulled me in.
Larenzo is arrested, taken to prison and found guilty of some very bad stuff he’s supposedly have being doing….dealings with the Mafia.
Released after 18 months, after he had proved that he had been framed by his partner and mentor, he travels to America to pay Emma the salary she had not received when he had been arrested.
Emma had fled Italy the very next day after Larenzo’s arrest and decides to go back home to America and stay with her sister. And there she stayed, after having found herself pregnant with Larenzo, the criminal’s baby.
These two characters are beyond damaged and flawed. Emma’s childhood had been traumatized by her parent’s divorce that resulted in her not wanting to put roots down or ever fall in love.
Larenzo’s past was so damn sad and tragic. A street child in Palermo, he had been rescued and saved by the very person he had grown to love and believed he was loved back. It broke his heart when he realized that the person he had trusted and loved, had never felt anything for him – his mentor and savior had actually save Larenzo for nefarious purposes. I so could understand his insecurities, his lack of trust for anyone and his pain…but at times I just wished he could have understood Emma a bit better.
Emma had her own issues to deal with and I did enjoy seeing some sort of relationship growing between the two. But what I loved more is that Emma never gave up on Larenzo. She made him feel that he needed to lay down his demons if he was ever to find happiness in his life.
The reason I didn’t give this book a 5 star rating was due to the story ending – I wanted an EPILOGUE!!! I would have loved to find out where Larenzo and Emma’s life went next.

Emma Leighton looked up from the book she’d been reading in surprise; as housekeeper of Larenzo Cavelli’s isolated retreat in the mountains of Sicily, she hadn’t been expecting anyone. Larenzo was in Rome on business, and no one came to the villa perched high above Sicily’s dusty hill towns and villages. Her employer liked his privacy.
Emma has worked for Larenza for over two years and has never seen him behaving the way he does on this night. She can sense that there is something worrying him and tries to offer her help. In all the time she has known her boos, she has never felt the attraction she begins to feel now. She’s worried for him and things take a turn that she had never expected.
After a night of passionate pleasure, she discovers the next morning that there was something more serious than she had even imagined.

This was very sweet. The Italian tycoon hero and the photographer-turned-housekeeper heroine have a one night stand (heroine was a virgin for those who are interested). The hero is falsely arrested the next day for mafia activities and the heroine moves to NJ to live with her sister and give birth to her secret baby.
For all of the drama this is a quiet little story (I mean little - it's only 147 pages long). Somehow, maybe because of the length, it didn't feel quite finished. Some reviewers have mentioned wanting a baby-filled epilogue. I'm not sure about that - but something more would have been nice.

Sweet Christmas story. I loved the angst, the chemistry Emma and Larenzo had and how Emma fought for Larenzo even when he pushed her away. She was a brave and compassionate heroine even though she had issues of her own. I would have given it 5 stars but I needed a better epilogue filled with cute babies.

On page 85 I gave up. Lost complete interest in both hero and heroine. The romance was bland. The passion was bland. The storytelling was bland. Worse the hero was bland.

I have to say I was quite surprised this book's rating wasn't higher than it was. I loved it!
It is one of the best I've read in while. Of late I have gobbled up a few of Kate Hewitt's novels and you can bet I'll be reading more.
In 'Larenzo's Christmas Baby' our hero, Larenzo Cavelli, is a gorgeous, single businessman who is a playboy extraordinaire. It seems he has a different beauty on his arm (and in his bed) every week.
Emma is our heroine and she's Larenzo's housekeeper at his mountain home. She has rarely seen him but a handful of times and he always gives her notice when he’s arriving so she can have the house prepared just as he likes it. Emma is shocked and surprised when she hears someone enter the house. Larenzo was a day early. She immediately knew something was wrong as he looked disheveled and very sad, reflective. They spent the evening together and when neither could sleep they found comfort in each other’s arms. A few hours later the police arrived to arrest Larenzo and said they had enough evidence to connect him to the mob and he would spend the rest of his life in prison.
A year and a half later he was exonerated and set free. First on his to do list was to find Emma. The surprise was on him when he went to see her and heard a baby crying upstairs as she was quickly trying to get him out the door. Funny thing...that baby looked exactly like him...down to the dimpled chin. Lucy...you got some slainin’ to do!!
Both of these characters had a rough past. Neither felt wanted as a child/teen. They each had a lot to work through before they could work on them as a couple.
***As a side note there was no cheating or womanizing in this book. Larenzo was introduced as a playboy but that happened prior to the beginning of the book. I was so glad about that.
I highly recommend this book. I enjoyed every moment of it and struggled to put it down long enough to let the dog out the back door.

Sad story, the hero was played by his own mentor/father-figured-like. He went to jail after his "mentor" framed him for his own crime. He spent two years in jail, but he still had to pay for the crime he didn't commit. The heroine was his housekeeper, had a night together right before he went to jail. Her sister, istg, so annoying, i get her pov but still.

An enjoyable romantic read that tells the story of Larenzo and Emma who both in their own way have been hurt in the past and need to learn to trust again, well written and keeps you turning the page.

I hate to give this review, and in fact it's such hard one to give especially since lately I have been really into Kate Hewitt books, but I just could not get into this book and found myself skimming through a majority of it.
Firstly the title was kind of misleading because I didn't find this book overly Christmassy. Don't get me wrong there were elements of Christmas at the end, but I was expecting the majority of the plot to take place during the the holidays especially with it in the title. I guess the title more refers the baby's birth more than anything else, but that wasn't what I was expecting.
Secondly I wasn't really fond of the hero and heroine. They were in fact kind of boring, and she was really off putting I thought. Just nothing really drew me to either of them. I didn't care for them. I didn't feel for them despite the fact they had deep gaping wounds in their past that had yet to be healed. I was indifferent to them and really didn't root for them. I just wasn't interested in them enough.
Thirdly, I really didn't like them as a couple. Their chemistry was lack luster at best and worst very contrived. I didn't feel the pull between them nor the attraction between them. They weren't sizzling together. There were bland. I just couldn't see them together nor did I think they belonged together. It felt forced. And there was nothing compelling about them as a couple. I didn't enjoy them together.
Fourthly, there wasn't a lot of angst with them, or more accurately I didn't feel it because it wasn't shown. There were various points in the book that summarized the passage of time by saying two weeks passed or three weeks something like that so there wasn't a lot shown of the progression of their relationship and its development. That would have been a perfect opportunity to show growth between them as well as all that tension and angst. I wanted to see that and journey in their relationship. And it just wasn't there.
Fifthly, though the plot was interesting and different from the typical Presents faire, it didn't come across all that intriguing. It didn't peak my interest that much even though it should have with the setup. I guess part of it had to do with Emma and Larenzo's reactions to the situation. I don't know. It just wasn't compelling.
Lastly I hated that this was a one night stand type of story, and this story proved why I hate them with all the typical markers. Even though they had this supposed attraction between them, I didn't feel like they had a connection, though they said the did I didn't believe it. Plus considering the circumstances and Larenzo even stated it himself, I didn't like that he was basically using her on his last night of freedom. I understand he wanted some pleasure knowing what he would face but that didn't make it any less palatable for me. It was not a meaningful first time scene or special for that matter neither was the second time scene. Just I needed more compelling evidence than what I had to convince me that all they had between them was more than just lust.
The best part of the book were scenes where they were being a family. Those were the beautiful moments of the entire book especially the cute moments with Larenzo and Ava. I love those moments. It was adorable to see father and daughter bond in the book. That was the one bright spot in the book.
Overall I just didn't enjoy this book and found it at times hard to get through it with the biggest reasons being I didn't like the main characters nor did I like the love story aspect of this story. In fact I found the romance very lacking and had nothing behind it really. It could have been so much more and more compelling than it actually was. Aku suka. Ceritanya mengalir wajar, begitu pula penggambaran emosi2 para tokohnya. Tokoh hero di sini diceritakan sedang dalam posisi terjatuh dari kedudukannya. Larenzo, ditangkap karena difitnah terlibat denngan mafioso. Sayangnya aku gak terlalu paham detil kejahatan yang dituduhkan kepadanya. Emma di sisi lain, setelah melewati masa terkejutnya melihat bossnya setelah pertama kali mereka bercinta malah kemudian melihat bosnya di tangkap terlihat seperti kehilangan kemandiriannya. Ia menumpang tinggal di rumah kakaknya yang suaminya tidak terlalu suka dengan kehadirannya. Hamil dan melahirkan anak Larenzo di sana. Kemudain tiba2 Larenzo datang. Awalnya hanya berniat membayar gaji Emma yang belum terbayarkan tapi mengetahui Emma telah melahirkan anaknya ia pun segera membawa keduanya tinggal di apartemennya di New York. Larenzo berusaha membangun bisnis baru di sana setelah perusahaannya di Italy dibekukan pemerintah.
Kate Hewitt menggambarkan psikologis keduanya secara bertahap. Larenzo yang menolak menjalin hubungan baru dengan manusia lainnya (Ia hanya melibatkan perasaannya pada anaknya saja) dikarenakan trauma dengan masa lalunya yang dikhianati oleh pria yang sudah dianggapnya seperti ayahnya sendiri. Emma, yang merasa tidak dicintai malah ditinggalkan oleh ibunya pasca perceraian orangtuanya. Kemudian secara bertahap, melalui kakaknya ia belajar untuk tidak mengulang kesalahan2 yang pernah dilakukannya pada ibunya.
Walau ceritanya bagus, aku merasa 4,5 star lebih tepat untuk cerita ini.

Such a lovely read - the unusual plot, more `sweet' than the usual sensual Presents though there is sensuality but it has its moments! I won't give more details - you need to discover this one all on your own. Enjoy!

Larenzo and Emma
Love story about 2 people who have had problems in the relationships. Growing up was very hard for both of them. They come to gather as lovers. Larenzo goes to prison and she has his child,Ava..She has been living with her sister's family for the last 18 months. Lorenzo comes looking for Emma and finds he has a daughter as well. Emma and Lorenzo become lovers again and finally get the love they both need.

Good book!
I loved the first part of the book and the H seemed a really strong male. In the last part of the book he seemed to have lost something of his manner and i did not like him as much. The book is very good , i just would have liked the H if he could have kept some of his alpha ness.

Quick easy enjoyable read
I chose this story mostly because I like it when there is a feeling of betrayal and a strong minded man but yet shows a softer side. I thought there was a bit to much talk in the feeling department but I did like the comeback I just felt that it was a quick easy and entertaining read you will enjoy it very much.

I find this story, quite interesting.
I somehow could relate to Emma and yet, my heart truly has broken for Larenzo. These two are perfect parents for Ava.

Larenzo Cavelli arrives home earlier than expected and his housekeeper Emma Leighton notices he seems distracted and upset over something. Trying to help him through an apparent difficult evening one thing leads to another and before the night is over she shares his bed only to awaken to police arresting Larenzo. She finds he is charged with being part of a Mafia and a sting operation that would put him in prison for life. After much interrogation Emma leaves and runs to her friend in New York where she finds out she if pregnant . A little more than a year later Larenzo shows up at her door. When he finds he has a daughter he wants her as part of his life but so many dark shadows envelope him and happiness seems something he can never have. The book is such a wonderful story that I will not give away any more of it. Find out why Larenzo was put in prison and how it all turns out, a wonderful book.

The great part about series romances is that they can be read for ten minute blocks of time or straight through and still be enjoyed as much either way. In this story, we find a premise not often used outside of the mystery/suspense versions. Our male protagonist has gone to jail and has been released. He seeks out the last woman he was with just prior to being arrested only to learn he is a father.
I like both the female and male protagonists. Each is vulnerable, have been derailed from the futures they had planned, and need one another to lean on while regaining a foothold on life. The story starts a little mysteriously (but is not a suspense novel) and it is the male who leaves unexpectedly. The plot move smoothly and both characters are sympathetic and likable. I will look for more from this author.

I liked this book because Kate Hewitt called out the "I can't love you because of my past" bullshit that happens so frequently in harlequin novels today. While I totally love the idea still, it was just so refreshing to have Kate call it all out and to have Larenzo really understand that it was bullshit for him to think that way. It wasn't a five star for me simply because the ending needed to be more flushed out. It seemed kind of rushed and I would have preferred it if Kate gave some time between the lovers but it was a very entertaining read regardless of that fact.

Emma was his housekeeper and tried to comfort him on his last night at home. Almost 2 years later, Larenzo looks her up and discovers a surprise from their one night. After enticing Emma to live in his penthouse, he tries to keep his emotions from being involved except for his daughter Ava. Larenzo has trouble trusting and Emma felt abandoned in her teens. Learning to trust is a hard lesson.

I usually like HP's with lots of steam so I was really surprised that I was still able to enjoy this one even though the passionate moments between the characters were few and far between...All the same this was an interesting and engaging story. Very well written with characters that really pull you into the story. I felt practically every moment of angst that the hero went through and that's saying a lot! Recommended for HP lovers who don't mind a low heat rating:)

This was actually a sweet romance not overwhelmed with sex scenes. The author did a great job portraying a terribly wounded defensive man. It was a great little fluff story about the power of love and how it can overcome even the bitterest and most protected of hearts.

I enjoyed this. The woman's stated reasoning for concern was a bit odd when the guy comes back, but since a reasonable person would have SOME concerns I let that slide. They were both rather broken people and the conflicts arose from that, which I appreciate.
The ending felt slightly rushed but other than that I was good with it.
