Sudden Onset Evolution

So this baby sprouted wings… This isn’t the start of a bad joke, it was one of the effects of Sudden Onset Evolution. One night normal people went to bed and the next morning they woke up and had new found abilities and powers. Some died during the change, some are keeping themselves hidden, some started using the abilities for personal gain and a few of them decided to use their powers to stop those that needed stopping. Of these heroes, the greatest group was The Quad, led by Mitosis, a man who could create multiple versions of himself. Mitosis was joined by the human supercomputer Logix, the religious giant Holy Mammoth and the media darling and incredibly powerful Lady Splendid. For years The Quad had captured super villains, ended wars, stopped natural disasters and kept the world safe. But personal relationships gone wrong caused the breakup of The Quad. Logix and Holy Mammoth went off the grid while Lady Splendid decided her celebrity was more important than being a hero. Mitosis went out to join a new group called The Slackers. Joining Mitosis in this new group was Gamer, who creates living video games, NinChick, a young girl with incredible skills and agility and the seemingly impervious Powerful Dude. He was just starting to form a group that could rival The Quad, but then it happened. While trying to stop a new threat their leader Mitosis is put in a coma and a new rash of evil plots started popping up and new dangers presented themselves more and more often. Gamer, NinChick and Powerful Dude do their best to try and wake up their leader and find who is responsible for this escalation of mayhem. But is their best good enough, or will they need some help?

I've never had trouble talking about myself, but this whole publishing process has worn me out! Between blogging, Facebooking, Tweeting and everything on Amazon I'm pretty much annoying myself right now!
Sudden Onset Evolution is my first published work, but I've been writing for my own enjoyment for most of my life. I've written short stories, poems, songs and more Top 10 Lists than I care to think about. I'm a former stand up comic who had a good run for a couple months until I got booed off stage and that ended that. Getting a book out there is another thing I can cross off my bucket list, so now I just have to write a sequel or two, get a sketch on SNL and form a Styx tribute band and I'll have finished my list. Thinking about it, I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not.
I go by the nickname Pauldo and think of Pauldo as a whole other person. A much better and funnier person. I got the name because I was the first of my friends to have a cell phone as his home phone so whenever people would call me they would ask where I was because they knew I could be anywhere. It was all new to them back in 1998. I started answering the phone with "Where's Pauldo?" and the name stuck.
In other Pauldo news, I'm a karaokee superstar and have sung Careless Whisper over 100 times in 9 different states. Look for Pauldo on YouTube and you'll see all sorts of clips. I also collect/horde tee shirts and get daily emails from about a dozen sites and very often end up buying a tee shirt before I have even actually woken up.
I hope you enjoy my book(s) and please start a discussion. I'm almost always near a computer and I'll be happy to reply. I swear, I'm not as lame as this bio makes me seem!

If you like superheroes and a bit of teenaged back and forth banter, this book is for you. (Think X-men, Fabulous Four, etc.) There is a good deal of humor in it which makes it a fun read. Get past the silly names and enjoy the nuances of each of the characters. The plot was good with lots of innovative ideas and action. If there is a sequel, I expect there to be consequences for Mitosis because of what happened to him since that part is still there. I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't read it yet by elaborating further. If you are thinking of recommending this to someone younger, keep in mind that since the characters are teenagers, there will be some sexual references and such. There are some parts where it isn't "English teacher perfect" as you are reading it: parts where the words don't seem quite right in a can't put your finger on it kind of way, but it is a good read. (I received this in a goodreads giveaway.)

I was excited to receive the book. The write up on it intrigued me and I felt it had a great deal of promise. The author came up with a great concept. I found the writing to be a bit choppy and in need of a good editor. There were some simple things that an editor would pick up that ended up being distracting. The main characters ended up being pretty well developed. The plot was a little predictable, but it was still a fun read.
I received a copy of the book as part of Goodreads First Reads program.

While it's a little outside of my normal genre, I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters were interesting and I was left wanting to know what happens next...
