Our criminal justice system has one fatal flaw: you can’t punish people who always stay a step ahead of authorities. Criminals don’t have to abide by rules and laws that the State does as it pursues them. Meet Besseta, a being of legend that has roamed the land for over six centuries with her mind set on one thing: Vengeance in Blood for the innocent. While human traffickers, gang-bangers, and serial killers pursue their next victim, she hunts them down and ensures that they meet a violent end. But when her kills come to light, the FBI, and worse, a secret organization starts to connect the dots. When Besseta takes down a string of “Average Joe’s” who sponsored the production of child snuff porn, LA Detective Kenneth Terrell is brought in to find their killer. A master tracker and a protector of innocents in his own right, Kenneth is tasked to find the serial killer that no one really wants to stop. Will Besseta manage to stay one step ahead while dispensing her unique justice, or will the existence of legends: vampires, finally be exposed? Justice is for the State. Vengeance In Blood: is for the people.

The writing of this book is so bad it’s astounding. I have no clue how I read so far.
Besseta is over 600yrs old but acts 10. I think we are supposed to think she is this wise bad ass but in reality she talks and thinks like a child. Then we are repeatedly beat over the head about how young she looks (people have asked her when she’s out, where her parents are, she looks that young). If she looks like a child and acts like one why bother making her 600+? Don’t get me started on her talking out loud, and it’s only stuff that the author needs to tell us. Just have her think it, why is she talking out loud? She’s not the only character who does it either, but it’s the most annoying when it comes to her.
Kenneth is in his late 30s-40s I’m guessing and is equally immature. We keep being told that he is this incredibly smart detective but he, just like Besseta, comes off as a fumbling idiot. In that way they really are the perfect pair. I’m confused on how his character is even supposed to be likable- there is a scene where he’s speeding like a maniac and yells at someone, “Move your fucking ass, you old bitch, before I beat you to death with your fucking walker!” And we are supposed to root for him? He also repeatedly calls someone a “fat fuck/ lazy, fat fuck”. It also is uncomfortable how immediately attracted he is to Besseta when it is made very clear to us she looks incredibly young, no one who sees her thinks she’s even 18.
The romantic chemistry in this book is zilch. Besseta and Kenneth maybe seem like friends at best and like father and daughter at worst. The idea of them even touching romantically is uncomfortable, so imagine my shock when Besseta says to herself that she loves him within a day of knowing him.
The conflict in the book is maybe interesting at times? But the things that are interesting aren’t really brought up much. Like, I’d love to have seen Besseta find her victims and just go through that process, but we just don’t get that. Honestly, the set up of the book is that she is a serial killer and he is the detective looking for her, but once they officially meet it doesn’t become a priority in the book. And that premise is interesting! Yet we get no follow through. Or, I love the fact that she’s such an old vamp, but everything you’d expect from that doesn’t happen. It would have been cool to see her act so old/wise and it confuse Kenneth/the humans because to them she looks so young. It would have been nice to see that dynamic of her being off in a way that humans can’t quite put their finger on. We occasionally get one sentence about a human noticing her weird gracefulness, but then it’ll never be brought up again. Or, maybe something about her giving off the energy of a predator while looking like a teen girl. But, no. We don’t get anything into how her age would effect her character.
I could go into more but I’ll stop there. Definitely don’t recommend because I can’t imagine the last 40% of this book can fix itself.
A different and exciting story! Besseta is an young woman in her earlier twenties....at least in appearance. Although she has survived for centuries, her deceptively main goal has always been to stop criminals and give vengeance to the victims. With her unusual strength, speed, and talents, she has never stopped searching out and eradicating the evil in the world.
When her exploits draw the attention of a curious detective, she finds herself puzzled. This detective is following her every move, but he's letting her get away with it. Could they become a team? A force to dish out vengeance with extreme prejudice? Maybe....but first she'll have to leave the shadows....and meet him.
This was a very entertaining story with very vivid characters and an underlying sense of right and wrong. Well done!
An amazing book with great detail and character you just want to know more about. This vampire tale is not glitter and sunshine it is intelligent and commanding . I was hooked from the first page. Fast paced from beginning to end. Well done Mr. Watson. Looking forward to more reading
I don’t usually read vampire stories any more but I love Thomas and T Watson, so I gave this a try. SPOILERS AHEAD: Sooooo interesting and vampires are different than the usual bite me vampires. They don’t sparkle either. Constant action, the government sucks, and the book read fast. On to number 2!
Loved this one, please i need more. Your the best!!!!!
Your the best!!! Loved this one and I need more. Your wife is one Lucky lady to have you. I am equally sure that you are as lucky to have her. Thank you for another great read.
Got on spec based upon blerb. Read on one day, good enough that I am getting book two. Enough action to keep me reading, chapter one with the barrio/prison language left me unimpressed, so just get past it.
Interesting take on vampires but just not for me. Characters well defined and developed. Non stop action, suspense and graphic violence and gore. Perhaps I will read book two and might get better
I quite enjoyed this book. Too often vampire books are just stale reiteration, but not this one. It has a fresh view and is very fun. So off to read book 2!
When I started reading this story, I knew it was about vampires but never in my wildest dreams did I think it was going to be this captivating. Although it is about vampires, they are NOT your typical “blood sucking” Vamps! Oh no! There are no “sparkly” vampires in this one! What they are, are vengeful vampires who have an agenda. An agenda to make those who take the lives of innocents in the most horrendous ways and make them suffer until they take their last breath! Besseta is one of those avenging vampires, who by having suffered a great loss when she was much younger, has taken it upon herself to serve justice her way. Along the way she meets a detective who is assigned to the cases to catch the “murderer” and that is where the twist in the story takes place! Mr. Watson has written another totally captivating and engrossing story that had me reading late into the night and getting up early to finish the book. His eye for detail and his imagination make this a book that I highly recommend to everyone. Keep in mind that although this is a book about vampires, it is not what you would expect and once you start reading you will find it hard to put down. Do not hesitate to read “Vengeance in Blood”. You will find as I did that not all vampires are evil but that some do have a good side and will stop at nothing to see that justice is served to those who deserve it.
Well written and entertaining, sometimes it feels a little rushed, but not enough to really effect the enjoyment of the story. I will definitely keep reading this series.
This book is very well written and has a great story concept, but I bought it under the impression that it was a stand alone story. I am sick and tired of all these series books and try very hard not to purchase them anymore. Doesn't anyone but Steven King write plain old start to finish books?
I purchased this book on a whim. I never thought in my wildest dreams that it would be one of the best vampire books ever. The author made you worship the two main characters, along with Bonnie and Clyde. You live their love, sorrow and their actions. I just hope book two is as good. Also, I hope the series continues after book two. A MUST read.
I absolutely LOVED this book! Anyone that knows me, knows its a struggle for me to break out of the YA/NA genres but from page 1 of this book I was completely enthralled. I seriously sat down for 8 hours straight and read this book in one shot. I would definitely not want to cross Besetta and Kenneth. Thomas Watson has quickly become a favorite author of mine!
This Book was great. It didn't take me long to Read, and can't wait for the next book. To be Able to do what she could do would be great. But I find our Government would do anything To the Citizens, but try and warn the people.
still astonished that Amazon doesn’t promote this author’s work!
Read any one of his works and I promise you you’ll read many many more! They will astonish you, and some are very scarily prophetic. Keep up the great work Mr Watson
I haven't read vampire books in some time. But this one is awesome. It has everything. Humor, love, adventure, good guys and bad guys. It's a definite must read.
