I love to write stuff that makes you laugh, sometimes cry, but always makes you think. I released my first book Wellness Warrior - Fighting for Life in Fabulous Shoes to share the pearls of wisdom I learned while battling four different cancers and two autoimmune diseases (that was fun. Not!). I'm thinking of you when I write so it's kind of like we are chatting over coffee. My passion is to learn how to be the best version of ourselves, now matter where we are in our healing journey. My favorite part is letting as many people as possible know that there is help out there and that I totally get where they are. Have a friend that is going through a little something? You can send them my e-book to for free at bit.ly/warriorbook. Also, I love to talk all things wellness in my email newsletters. This is an amazing true story of an incredible woman who has had her share of health problems starting at a young age, and has continued for many years. Suffering not from just one cancer but from four, and if that was not enough got an autoimmune disease that is very debilitating.

Facing her autoimmune disease has left her at times in bed for months trying to move, taking a breath, and finding a way to eat and drink. She does experience at times relief until the disease takes its control once again.

The author begins writing this book at the darkness of times. Her illness takes many unpredictable turns. She takes medicine to help manage her disease, but also takes a comprehensive inventory of complementary and alternative treatments to help her live their life.

There is a wealth of information shared in this book. There is a mixture of valuable therapy advice, benefits of doing exercise, changes one can make to their diet, and spiritual advice that is worth a read and adapting in their life.

Through her illness she has learned to create balance in her life and gained wisdom in the finer things of life which she probably would not have obtained if she did not experience the sickness in her life.

I would recommend this book to anyone that is suffering from illness or not that needs to find purpose in their life. You do not need to be sick to get your life back on track. It is important to be balanced physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. If one part of your life is unbalanced, at some point chaos will result.

This is not a quick fix book. In fact the author still suffers from the disease, but she has defied the odds, and is managing the ups and downs of this illness, and has found purpose in helping others when her body allows it.

When you read Lisa's story, you feel as if she is sitting across the table with you sharing a cup of tea. She is every woman dealing with extraordinary health issues. It is how she deals with it that makes you feel as if you could do the same. Her tone is honest, down to Earth, and incredulous because frankly we would feel the same way if we were confronted with cancer at the age of 26, and then cancer again, an auto-immune disease, and cancer once again! We would want to give up...and so did Lisa. She shows us that one shred of hope is all someone needs to keep moving toward the truth and wholeness.

Lisa shows us that sometimes we need to set aside the Naysayer who tells us that ideas or beliefs that don't mesh with are own are not worth listening to. Her openness is became the light that she followed, even when she thought that treatments or therapies were weird. Sometimes faith is just as important as hope.

This story and how it is told inspired me so much that I chose to work with Lisa to find my own truth and wholeness. I plan on staying open to see where it will lead me. Thank you Lisa for sharing your story!

I don't have a lot to say about this book other than I absolutely loved the well-rounded and down-to-earth approach to wellness the author takes in this personal and powerful story. The major takeaway is the individual approach to and ownership of wellness for each of us. Great story.

Although I chose to review this book, I must be honest and say that I thought I’d make heavy weather of it given the subject. But I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to read through and learn from Lisa’s experiences. That’s a credit to Lisa’s style of writing and how personal the sharing was.

Lisa’s ability to find her own path to wellness in a balanced way – combining medication, exercise, alternative therapies and making changes in her diet are truly commendable and inspiring. Her inner journey, call it spiritual if you like, to find meaning in her suffering and to use her experiences to create a balanced life are well expressed.

This is applicable to us all – everyone of us is called to learn from the supposedly ‘bad’ experiences life brings our way. As Lisa says, “We are our best teachers when we choose to be students of our lives.’

The book reinforced my belief that it is possible for each of us to find wellness in the true sense of the word. To quote Lisa again,

‘True cures cover all aspects of our being: mind, body, and soul. It’s the sense of peace we feel deep within us know that whatever form our life takes in any given moment, we are exactly where we need to be.’

This is a book I would recommend to people suffering from life-altering illness and to anyone who needs a reminder that it’s possible to find light and wellness in the midst of great darkness and ill-health.

Health – one word we never pay attention to unless a disease comes along to threaten everything that we thought life is about. When the body’s functioning goes haywire and starts fighting itself, most of us would find ourselves lost and let down. The medley of emotions is too horrible for anyone to experience let alone imagine it. But Lisa is a warrior. She doesn’t back down from a fight, even if she has to break her very core and reconstruct everything that she knows or stands for. This book is her memoir of dealing with disease, life and death.

Her experiences with different teachers who guide her to every new step in the right holistic direction are sure to move every reader. Personally, I found every conversation she had with Mona very profound. The way Mona transforms the prevailing mood in the hospital within minutes is fascinating and inspirational.

It's hard to believe one human could endure so much illness like Lisa Douthit experienced. Being diagnosed with caner seems terrifying enough, along with the treatment and aftermath, but then also contracting lymphoma and myasthenia gravis is mind-boggling.

While Lisa writes a bit about the physical side of these illnesses, the focus seems to be more about the emotional and spiritual healing. She meets different people who inspire her to try things she may not have been open to or interested in prior to getting sick. Lisa dives into therapy, overhauling her diet, and even meeting with a shaman.

I think this is a must read for anyone living with a chronic illness, cancer, etc. I honestly feel any reader, regardless of their health, would find this to be a motivational story. Wellness Warrior made me want to shake things up in my life and not take my body for granted. We are all worthy of living a quality and meaningful life. Thank you for the reminder, Lisa!

I've become a big fan of stories that have to do with health, particularly those which have a positive outlook. This is one of the best of those I've read recently.

The author takes us along on a journey which would have most people hiding from the world, ready to give up. But in spite of her difficult times, she never loses her sense of humor as she shares her experiences.

There is a plethora of advice in this book. The author shares therapy plans, exercise benefits, dietary changes, and spiritual advice. She also shares the importance of creating balance in your life.

This book is inspirational and helpful to everyone, whether you suffer from illness or just need to put your life in order.

A MUST READ

I will have to give much thought to all this information. We all take different paths in life....Some take the short, long, uphill or downhill.....who is to say what is right? There are many profound words creating great thoughts I have yet to completely work out but my faith in God abounds. HEAR what He whispers....because He IS there for each of us...He just wants us to bring HIM into our lives.
Lisa went through a living hell but her determination cleared many paths and without determination and prayer, we have nothing.
Inspiring, encouraging and hopeful. Good bless Lisa!!!!

An enjoyable read about a woman's journey to understand her body & the debilitating illnesses that plague her. I would have loved to have read more about the entire family & their journey as Lisa begins her healing. The only part that gave me pause was towards the end, as she describes her dreams. I felt the book would have been stronger w/ that particular section being edited down to just a few paragraphs. So much of the book was so honest, that the dream section, just did not seem to fit, IMHO. Highly recommended for anyone suffering w/ chronic/ or acute health conditions!

Much better than the title implies

To me, the title sounds like the author is somewhat superficial and that the book will be a 'look at me' story. I was pleasantly surprised to find the book much deeper and spiritual. The lady is sharing her unique journey. I couldn't agree with it all (eg her reference to 'god') but I accepted her path and appreciated the inspiration she was trying to instil in her readers. I wish more people could read this book and reflect on it in their own life.

Wow! This book has opened my eyes! I have Myasthenia Gravis like the author. However, I have not had crisis after crisis. I had one bad one in 2014 and have worked hard to improve myself, both mentally and physically. Fortunately, this has helped me a lot. I want to find out more about some of the things she wrote about, like the esoteric acupuncture and yoga. I am so glad I read this book. She gives me hope that I can live a new normal life and be content.

Enjoyable style

Lisa has a great way with words. She is a humorous writer and I have a deeper appreciation of her struggle and path to daily happiness and health. My journey took me to my own "Mona" many years ago. Homeopathy was the healing stream I jumped into and encountered acupuncture and chinese medicine too. Sometimes health is a state of mind and I believe that is at the heart of this book.

I loved this book and can relate. I am a 3 time cancer survivor and much of this touched base with the emotions, soul searching and desire to live, not just day to day but live life fully.

God Bless!

Everyone's got something, as Robyn Roberts says. Lisa Douthit has more than one "something" she has had to overcome. She tells about her journey to heal her mind and body with humor and humility. She isn't afraid to show her vulnerabilities. When I got to the end of the book, I wanted to know more. What is Lisa's Chapter 2 in life?

Did not finish

Book was too hard for me to read, too close to home for me. As a cancer survivor, it hurt too much.

I found Lisa Douthit's Wellness Warrior to be unbelievably inspiring. Any one of her circumstances could have broken a person's spirit and yet she experienced ALL of them and her spirit came out stronger. What is more she graced us with a record of her experiences. I appreciated her candor and her honesty, admitting there were times when she felt overwhelmed and afraid. I related especially to her retelling at the beginning when she was in the early days of remission and "felt" there was something wrong, the dread that she had going to the doctor -- almost as if would never escape illness. I have had these feelings too in my life and it was comforting to know I wasn't alone.

Living with chronic disease is not easy. I have a spouse with Chron's Disease and in the beginning when we didn't know what we had and faced four emergency surgeries in less than a year with a young son, it was terrifying. I felt very alone and afraid. I had to always put on the "brave face" for everyone. I wish I had Lisa's book way back then to help me cope through the paralyzing stress. It affects everyone around you and healing truly is necessary for the mind, body, and spirit.

I definitely recommend this to anyone who is currently struggling with chronic disease in any capacity, be it themselves or a loved one. I would also suggest this book to any medical practitioner -- doctor, nurse, therapist, etc. I would even recommend anyone serving in any ecclesiastical position to read it. It really is a book that should be widely known.

This book gave me hope when I'd lost mine. Funny!! I gave my copy to my therapist who loved it and asked if she could give it to a lady she thought could benefit from it... Of course I said yes....sharing is caring!
