Role Taker

Rate this book
Carmen Downing is your typical 36-year old female who lives with a Chocolate Lab named Hershey in a Brooklyn apartment on the upper west side. She has a job as literary agent, reviewing manuscripts of new authors for submission.

On a lunch break one day, she ventures into a book store that is practically forgotten. It's dusty, old, yet houses thousands of books - some are the original editions. Carmen finds a book of interest - "The Dismissed Manuscript" and takes it up to the counter to buy it. The shop owner advises her to pick a different book - any other book except for this one. "This book - no good," he says in a broken English with Romanian accent. This made Carmen want to read it even more. She wasn't one to judge a book until she herself had read it. Carmen buys the book and takes it back to her office, excited to read it and find out why the book store owner didn't want to sell it.

That night, over a glass of wine, Carmen reads the book, and falls asleep as she finished the last page. The next morning, she wakes up, and realizes she has taken on the role of the character from the book she read the night before, and Carmen has no idea how to get out of the character's shoes - and out of her life. She grabs the book to search for clues or answers to her predicament, and finds nothing.

Carmen rushes back to the bookstore to get more information from the bookstore owner, who tells her she must read more unread manuscripts in order to get past this character's life. Story after story, Carmen assumes each character in the novelists' submissions. She has to deal with the characters' boyfriends, family members, friends... even their story's tale. One manuscript got a bit scary - a serial killer tries to murder Carmen in her apartment! Will Carmen be able to read her way out of this situation and get back to her own life? Or will she run out of manuscripts in her apartment, leaving her stuck in the last book she just read?

Hi! Thanks for visiting my page. After working for a Fortune 500 company in product marketing for 9 years, I left. During my tenure in corporate world, I started ghostwriting, and wrote a New York Times Bestseller under a pen name (which will not be revealed - under contract). I took a year off after cleaning out my cubicle, traveled a bit using my author earnings, and decided I wanted to take my talents in marketing and writing and become a full-time author. I figured, if I could ghost write for someone else and make the NYT Bestsellers list, I could probably write under my own name!

I now run the CreativWriter website for my fellow aspiring authors and writers. I help people become more efficient with their writing along with doing some book cover design and consulting on the side. It's more of a hobby but I really do enjoy helping other people.

I'm very social, and look forward to Facebooking and Tweeting with all my fans and followers! Thanks for being here!
